For me, it was witnessing my two dead squad mates having been given no indication why the hell they died. I mean, in ME2, at least there were legitimate reasons. I remember thinking it was all just a dream and that when I went through the conduit I'd wake up and the game could continue. Then Shepard came out on the Citadel and I died inside.

Honestly, it began on Mars: "We have found plans for a weapon which can destroy all Reapers!"...Great...

Yah, when you put it like that, it sounds awful. Good thing the game doesn't put it like that.

Besides we all knew there would be a huge deus ex machina. I'm just glad they got it out of the way early so it was built into the game and accepted before the ending.

Once again:
THE CRUCIBLE IS NOT A DEUS EX MACHINA

1) On Mars: Hey look, we suddenly found something just in time that could somehow possibly defeat all the reapers for us. Wait, what?

2) On Rannoch talking to the Reaper

3) Tessia: A bit short, wasn't it? Also, depressed shepard is depressed...that's not how my Shep handles things!

4) London with it's lack of recognizing any war assets whatsoever.

5) Hello weird transcendent beeing on the crucible I don't have any emotional attachement to.

I had a feeling there were going to be problems back at the beginning when they conveniently discovered the plans for the magical anti-Reaper superweapon just as the Reapers began their invasion.

Actually, I started scratching my head when I heard back in Arrival that the Reapers were just kind of going to show up anyway, even though the point of everything we'd been doing for the last two games seemed to be to prevent the Reapers from reaching the galaxy, because if they did we were all dead.

Still, I never imagined it could be as bad as it was.

I went from pure gaming bliss to cautious and confused optimism after Shepard woke up from Harbinger's beam. If that doesn't count, my first "What the hell are you doing?! You'll ruin everything!" moment was the appearance of the star child.

Same here. I was still quite irritated by the whole earth scene because it just didn't make any sense to me and just felt displaced (no trial, "we fight or we die", what council is that?, why are they asking me such dumb questions?) and then this.

I think it hit me after the conversation with the space magician where I did not ask any questions and was forced to make a choice based on three sentences.

I already knew what was coming, but right after Coats said "everyone's dead" and I saw that Tali and Kaiden had vanished, I knew it was going to go as loopy as I'd heard.

Honestly "The Citadel has been moved to Earth!" was a red flag, but I ignored it at the time.

This ^ I meant really bioware that was the best way you could get the fight back too earth?

Then the magical light beam that takes you to the citadel. Thought it didn't set up a huge red flag as the whole Citadel has been moved to earth thing. I was like  through that whole conversion  then, when I went to earth and to have a magical elevator pop up in Anderson briefing < me.
Then starkid comes in to play my face was replaced with  <_<<_<:blink::pinched:.

However, for me the other red flags were the dream sequences in the game, which seems so out of place in the ME universe. The censoring of Jack' saying go **** yourself  in the game and so on. I mean come on in Mass Effect 2 you could hear every word Jack says but come on they all of sudden get soft about cursing in the game?

Demo. Was wondering why there was no hint of a trial for Shepard after what she did in 'Arrival'. An Alliance officer and Council Spectre commits a war crime against them, I'd imagine that a race as belligerent as the Batarians would be threatening war and at least.demanding that Shepard be handed over to them. And the lack of dialogue options, Shep either came across as callous or sentimental and not the ruthlessly calculating battlefield pragmatist she'd been in the previous two games. And seeing that they'd turned Ashley into a contestant from Rupaul's Drag Race.

Guys, stay focused and remember that throughout the first two games, everyone save for a handful of people and factions in a galaxy of TRILLIONS are even aware [or acknowledge] that the Reapers are even a real thing. It takes having the Reapers at their doorstep to get them to realize they are in danger.

In light of this, it should not be in any way problematic for the narrative that plans for an anti-reaper superweapon [that, keep in mind, nobody even knows how it'll work, and is acknowledged as basically a hail mary by everyone involved] shortly after the reaper invasion begins, because within the scope of the game universe only said handful of people and factions realize the reapers can't be defeated conventionally and are looking for such a thing.

In short, THE CRUCIBLE IS NOT A DEUS EX MACHINA.
