After playing the dwarf noble Origin story, I have decided I want to model my character after a member of the Legion of the Dead. After looking at the item lists, it would seem that weapon and shield would be best  type of warrior since there is both a "Shield of the Legion" as well as the fact that dwarf noble starts with a talent in that tree. Next question is specializations. Going the sword/shield route would make me the tank which would go well with the Champion specialization. For the next one, Templar is out leaving either Berserker or Reaver. Which one fits best with this character? 

Finally, I am looking for this character to be as close as possible to the lore surrounding the Legion. If that means the build is sub-optimal, then so be it as I can work around that.

Considering that the dwarves appears to have a lot of berserkers, I would go with that.

Definitely a dwarf berserker. Legionnaires live to fight and fight to die.

Thanks for the replies, Berserker it is. It also helps that I have unlocked Berserker already, but my other playthrough is long past being able to unlock Reaver

Legionnares don't HAVE to wear the shield



If you're going to be a berserker/champion well berserker contradicts using a shield so yeah

In fact, most Legionaries are Berserkers. They use the "Final Blow" ability a lot if you observe them during combat.

Also you shoud obviously then make your 1st trip be to Orzammar after you leave lothering then , get the armor ASAP



Theres a nice 2H sworrd called "Ageless" in the royal palace if you kill a dragon in there also
