I personally am done with Diablo. Only playing it for nostalgia - and the atmosphere is pretty cool. But re-hashes like Titan's Quest (and Grim Dawn most possibly) feel ever weaker in the story-department. It's like Oblivion - the only thing you do is wander around some supposedly normal (right next to villages) scenery and kill monsters, who are everywhere. (Diablo had that covered better as well - you mostly went out into far reaches of unmanned wilderness/tombs/crypts/jungles/hell, or were in a besieged city - but here it seems as if the whole world is in fact only based on monsters, and the killing process.

But Grim Dawn does look nice for what it's worth.

So thanks for the heads up!
Added.

Oh people have been. Avellone said he'd like do a sequel but the IP is owned by Sega so a spiritual successor would be the next best thing.

Dang, well a spiritual successor is alright I guess...... unless we can get Sega to sell the IP rights.

That would be awesome. AP had such a great dialogue system and C&C.

Last night Avellone said that KickStarter probably wouldn't be able to provide the funds necessary for an Alpha Protocol (spiritual)successor. I'd guess that's because of the cinematics/voice acting/HD 3D graphics.

Also, just 45 hours until The Banner Saga will be funded! Last chance to pledge and get the Kickstarter privileges! :)

A quick question. What games did (or will) you guys back?

I've gotten only few responses relevant to this question, out of this thread.
As for myself, the ones with the picture in the OP are the ones I backed. :)

I just don't know enough about the Banner Saga to back it.

^^ I was hesitant for that one as well. But seeing the Kickstarter thing is a new uproar, and as they can't go much wrong with turn-based combat, I'm thinking the money went into the right place, regardless if the product comes out a masterpiece or something less.

That said, I only had doubts with Banner Saga and Eternia (+ obviously the ones I didn't back).

Yeah, even Schafer said that for a game like Psychonauts 2 he would need something like 30-40 million dollars. I imagine a game like Alpha Protocol 2 costing at least as much.

Kickstarter right now doesn't seem like the place for bigger titles, but I at least hope that publishers take note and we'll see some changes in the future :)

*lolz at the kid that made a game for free in RPG maker, got 20K out of it on kick starter* Actully from what I've seen and heard this doesn't seem that uncommon, or at least devs making the games and pocketing lots of cash and not droping the prices.

So The Banner Saga will be getting an orchestrated soundtrack. Very nice. Might have to increase my pledge to $25 after all if this Austin Wintory guy is as good as everyone seems to think he is.

The KickStarters probably aren't changing anything. Publishers want tens of millions, not tens of thousands(which is a smash hit on KickStarter). Hopefully the sales for these games(once they are released) are in the millions which is good by a publisher's standards. As long as the games are good anyways!

Hey, I got the news that they are doing a Kickstarter for Nuka Break season 2 now. They are okay shows, but I wouldn't put money down to make them. This Kickstarter thing is getting huge!

Yeah, that's kinda funny. Didn't realize that before I pledged though. :pinched: :)

Still, they'll probably work on it a lot more from now on - so I'm fully confident of the purchase.

I honestly would be just fine if they used an outdated engine to keep cost down and literally just took AP1 reworked a few new mechanics and make a new game out of it, hardcore RPGers and AP fans would play it. The blessing for those making kickstarter games is the fact that hardcore fans care much more about substance than style. I still play old games that look horrid compared to games that come out now, but the writing and experience is so grand that it stands the test of time.

This doesn't mean there aren't problems with the kickstarter idea as a whole...
