The only thing I would add is to make sure your infiltrator starts in the downstairs back room (top right on your map) on objective waves. If you need to get the team upstairs, preventing enemies from spawning in that room speeds things up a lot when you don't need to kill 2 primes and their little friends just to get to the objective.

Good idea if you can get the Infiltator up there in time. Missles will handle it if you can't.

Oh, yeh: ALWAYS AIM MISSLES AT THE GROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GROUP OF MODS YOU WANT TO HIT.

They're not much good if they shoot right passed the two Primes blocking your route and hit a single turret. <_<

Anyone else get annoyed when you try the geth firebase tactice (pretty much this one) and people just stay in the middle of the map?

I get annoyed when i want a good gold game and every lobby i join has people doing this same boring technique......

Want a counter to that? Add friends.

This set-up is mostly for newer players or anyone wanting to farm credtis quickly when certain packs are out for a limited time.

I've a group of around 10-12 active players who are all happy to play whatever mode in gold, but we all default to this for a few hours a week at least when special packs are released and we want as many as we can get.

Pubs will mostly give you one of two things:
1. Failure
2. Tried and tested tactics.

It's up to you to build a friendslist of people you get on with who are happy to try out new things.

Since me and all my friends have these things called jobs, we dont play at the same time very often.

I only get a couple of hours every day or so to play, so i jump into a public gold match.
But seriously EVERY lobby is geth on firebase white, and everyone is doing this exact same thing. I honestly dont see the appeal of it, It makes it feel more like work than fun.

Id rather play a game that i only lasts half the waves and makes me half the credits than crouch in the same spot for half an hour spamming decoy or biotic explosion.

Known since the first days. It can be done with any class in barely any time tbh.

Oh, we have oine for that, too, it's not as easy though. :P

I'll post it in a little while.

Yes, it has and it can. But most people don't use a decoy, and by using the decoy you make it 10x easier/faster. It's a nice tip for people learning to use powers efficiently and to ease their way into gold.

Tryto keep the thinking positive. ;)

I work full-time too. 42 hour weeks, I have a Girlfriend who lives about an hour and a half away (no P at her house, thank god), and I play in a band with friends. All this and I've built up a friendlist since launch that is full enough to set up games most evenings with decent players. It's not hard. :P

And this isn't the only tactic to use, nor the only map to play it on.

No-one said anything about biotic explosion, btw. There are two slots you can use any character type for.

And I rarely see this tactic being used in public gold games. The tactic I see being used most often is 'every man for himself personal score farming', which is much less fun for me.

Nice write up, now I just need to get a microphone so I can tell other peope the strategy :P

It does seem like the default position is the top of the ramp, even though its extremely open to fire. Only concern I have about this is you're in a little bit of a corner and if a swarm of pyros get in you will have to run by them to escape, which could leave you dead.

The Salarian Engineer may be a better choice for this spot.

I just had a game where every objective was a hack objective. What I found was that you can easily get the objective at the ladder or on the launchpad by moving up to the interior stairs before the round starts, then moving up and placing a decoy at the top of the ladder.

Either start the hack if it's there, or loop around the left to the launchpad relatively unobstructed. The decoy at the ladder should provide enough distraction to move the rest of the team up through the interior.

As an aside on the strategy, I never strictly adhere to it--only the critical part of placing the decoy (for which the spot will shift forward and backward to draw fire from enemies outside coming down the stairs that would not otherwise have LOS on the decoy); sitting 2x2 behind the desks for an entire game doesn't appeal to me. Instead, damage dealers float around the room or the exterior to maximize their damage output rather than waiting for enemies to come to them.

Won't happen for a few reasons:

1. The Decoy will draw all of  their attention.
2. If a Pyro gets close neough to a your cover to hurt you, you can grab it for an instant kill.
3. MIssles, if need be.

For sure. This is the very basics to get people used to the idea. When we play we have one person holding each barrier and the other two roaming about taking down enemies.

The ONLY essential thing is to keep that barrier up, really.

I won't bicker about it. There are still plenty of people I meet who are unaware of this set-up and find Gold hugely intimidating.

Guides like this will be helpful for them. If you like to use them to feel superior instead, feel free. :)

Seriously. Just try a public gold match once.
I guarentee the first lobby you join will be white with geth and everyone will run to that area on your map.

Also, for the record. You should give people in public matches a lot more credit. Youre sounding rather elitist.
On gold people rarely run off like idiots. People generally stick together, cover each others backs etc. Of course you will ocasionally get some inexperienced people who charge in, but they are in the minority.
If you get a lobby where everyone has mics you can have a really good game. I actually prefer it to playing with my friends, as you can have a great laugh with some new people.

You are asking another nerf, people. 99% of gold lobbies now Firebase White, Geth, Gold. I try to play another map and end up with complete noobs and have to carry them all game.

Oh come on now, that's not my intent nor what I sound like at all.

Unless me and the other guys I've become friends with are ALL having the same awful luck, it seems the majority of people who play Gold simply don't have the experince or skill to play it well. This isn't an insult, it's just how public games work.

I wish it were true that everyone was decent at this game, or had read up on builds and atactics before playing like I and others did, but it's simply not the case. I was being objecive, not elitist.

And I the majoruty of gold games I auto join are prety much random. And when I join a firebase game STILL most people run for the area at the top of the ladder. Might be my bad luck, but that's my experience.

Oh, and out of the hundreds of games I've played, I'm almost alway the only one actively using their mic. I do manage to coax out a few players every now and then, but the majority are slient.

I'm playing on PC, btw, perhaps it's different on consoles...

I had a rare day to myself today, so:

I played 10 rounds of Firebase White using this tactic so I could farm some credits and open a bunch of PRemium Spectre packs as I'd I missed both event weekends due to social commitments, and I wanted a shot at some N7s. After scoring a few decent guns, I decided  to go public/random for fun.

The only specification I put was Gold.

Played 5 rounds.
One was Geth, Firebase White, everyone ran to the ladder area. We died on wave 5.
The rest were random maps with random enemies. Mostly Cerberus, actually.
One Reaper on Reactor. We survived that one.

Lost 3 matches halfway through. Survived the aforementioned and one Cerberus on firebase Ghost (best map for them, imo).

In my experience, the majority of gold games are set to random everything.

It's not as bad as you're making it out, for me at least.

I play on xbox.

It might be different on PC, but trust me, on xbox EVERYONE is doing this.

Can other people that play on xbox verify this please?

I instantly leave a lobby if its white with geth, and i have to search at least another 5-10 lobbys to find anyone thats not doing it.

I don't care about that, I rarely farm gold. But Bioware will just nerf Decoy and salarian engineer and/or buff Geths. I remember exact same thing with QI and sabotage.

Let them.

I played Guild Wars for years. Whenever a particular farm or tactic became popular the devs would nerf it and the creative players would move onto a new area. There was ALWAYS a build to use that was effective.

This is one of dozens of builds that's useful and uses the skills in the way they're supposed to be used, ie: effecitvely.

Just for anyone interested, I set quick search to:
Public
Random
Random
Gold

And searched for 10 unique games, results?
1 Firebase white Geth
1 Firebase Dagger Cerberus
1 Firebase Ghost Cerberus
1 Random Cerberus
6 Random everything.

Hardly a pandemic.

I'm playing on PC.

For me only 1 map out of 10 was not Firebase white Geth with random enemy, map, gold search. It's annoying.

I'm sorry, I find that very difficult to believe. I just did it again and:
2 Firebase White Geth
1 Firebase Giant Cerberus
1 Firesbase White Reaper
1 Unknown Cerberus
5 Random, Random

Are you sure you werent' being thrown back into the same room with the same leader? It's very strange I jus search 20 games, found only 3 that match the complaint you make, and Cerberus seem to be the most popular enemy choice. Very strange.

Please note that while using this strategy, you are not being cute or clever when you run out the back of the room and around the side of the building to get "clearer shots." If you cause Geth to lock onto you, they will ignore the decoy and flank the position when you duck back inside (or when you die from exposing yourself so you can set up "just one more head shot.") Had to do a mad scramble several times to salvage a couple of these runs before I figured out what was going on. One, I repeat ONE Geth Hunter going in and flanking through the back entrance unnoticed can easily kill everyone.

I usually run the Decoy dropping Salarian Engineer myself. Love that class.

We have a tactic using a roaming decoy to control the flow of enemies while we move around the map, and someone with stasis. We still use Cobra missles, though. :P
