I've been thinking about future series in the Mass Effect universe ever since they mentioned this current series was a trilogy. Where would they go, what characters could you play as, etc. While waiting for ME3 to come out, I decided to pick up and read the books. And I must say, I've grown quite attached to the Quarians.
I would love to play as a Quarian in a Mass Effect game. Not like multiplayer in ME3, I mean as in a story similar to Shepard's but Quarian centric. Either something about saving the flotilla, or going out on your pilgrimage. I think it'd be awesome. Experiencing the plight of being a quarian, the reactions you'd get from the other races, or cities/ports/colonies you visited. The gameplay could be different as well, (still the same great combat) but there could be a scavenging component, bartering to get ship parts, etc. I don't know.. I'm excited by the possibilities.
So what about you other gamers out there? Is there a particular race you'd like to play as? Besides Krogan, because they're the best. But.. is there a storyline you'd like to play out as a specific race?

Nope. ME3's ending killed the universe for me.

Yeah but make it a general sort of story where you can choose whatever race you want.

See, I wouldn't like a general story where you choose whatever race you want to play, because then the budget for the game goes up, and probably the game (overall) becomes shorter. Whereas if it's a specific story where you play as a certain race/character/gender then you can get a more coherent story.
Just my feeling/take on it. Besides, I'm not really looking forward to another trilogy with 32 branching paths. I would love to see more of a concise story. A "day in the life" of a quarian. The entire first half of the game could be scavenging supplies for the flotilla or your ship, whateves, and then you stumble on to a major plot.
I just figure that'd be better than.. choose your race, you're playing as a merc under Aria's employ to retake Omega.

I would really love a DA:O style of game set in the mass effect universe, where you get to pick your race and back-story. I think that could actually work really well. But they would need to focus a lot more on how your origin story effects the rest of the game...

This is what I'd prefer as well. That said, the Mass Effect universe does lend itself somewhat better to interspecies crossover stories since the various races are already connected thanks to stuff like the Citadel and multispecies corporations. Humans, quarians, krogans, asari all working side by side is daily business, whereas in Dragon Age you'd need to pull out a real good excuse to have an elf treated the same way as a human.Pockydon wrote...

So yeah, I'd like such an Origins-style game.
Its advantage would also be that it appeals to everyone the same way. With a game pandering only to, say, fans of quarians, it will also appeal largely to fans of quarians instead of everyone who likes ME. I too would love a story entirely focused on an Asari Commando, but stuff like that just isn't economically viable (Shep's story only worked because everybody can relate to a human), so settling for the middle ground seems to be the best idea.
