Basically, it's the cliche separating machines from living creatures - they could have use "life" instead but "soul" fits better with the whole Good cyber-Jesus Shepherd theme.soul
noun
1the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.
a person’s moral or emotional nature or sense of identity:
in the depths of her soul, she knew he would betray her
2 [mass noun] emotional or intellectual energy or intensity, especially as revealed in a work of art or an artistic performance:
their interpretation lacked soul
black American culture or ethnic pride.
short for soul music.
3the essence or embodiment of a specified quality:
he was the soul of discretion
brevity is the soul of wit
an individual person:
I’ll never tell a soul
it was bad news for some poor soul
a person regarded with affection or pity:
she’s a nice old soul

Yes but saying humans have a soul implies that we are more than flesh and that we will still exist after the body dies and also could mean that we existed before we were born don’t you think so?

Isn't that what you do when you procreate? You know, make children?

Why did he have to sacrifice himself? I didn't quite get it sinse it appeared they already had the data uploaded.
Apparently there was something in Legion that he couldn't share with the other Geth without deactivating.
Either a running program that can't be opend up and coppied while it's running...
Or for the quasireligious people, he had to share his soul with his people or whatever that was supposed to symbolize....
Shepard was kind of like a Galactic Jesus, Legion was a Geth Jesus.... It wouldn't surprise me if the Geth start building Legion and Shepard Temples after this, assuming there is a game set in the future with Geth in it. Maybe they will even include Tali as a lesser saint that imparted an understanding of the Quarians to the Geth. Something like that.
On one side of the park you got a religious hanar preaching about the enkindlers, on the other you got a Geth spreading the word of the Legion and the Shepard. Or maybe they start arguing about which is greater and the Geth point's out Javik's book on the enslaving and barbaric Proteans! And so they start throwing silly comments at each others faith.

Yes, the game unnecessarily opens a can of worms with that (Legion wants to know if it alive or just a machine)Yes but saying humans have a soul implies that we are more than flesh and that we will still exist after the body dies and also could mean that we existed before we were born don’t you think so?

Well of course the Illusive Man believes in souls.
They're his primary source of sustenance.

Galilei kicked us out of the Center of the Universe.
Darwin kicked us off the Pinnacle of Creation
Freud kicked the Soul out of our Brains.

Our 'minds', 'souls', 'spirit' and consciousness are all physical in nature. Thousands of years of research have shown that our brains comprise and produce our true selves. Souls and spirits do not exist. Our bodies run themselves. We know from cases of brain damage and the effects of psychoactive drugs, that our experiences are caused by physical chemistry acting on our physical neurones in our brains. Our innermost self is our biochemical self.
Galilei kicked us out of the Center of the Universe.
Darwin kicked us off the Pinnacle of Creation
Freud kicked the Soul out of our Brains.
Thousands of years of research? Seems legit.

Not that this would make any sense across all species.Enhanced wrote...
In ME2 Mordin said that the Collectors' souls were replaced by tech. So, having a soul seems to mean being fully sentient in Mass Effect.
It's on par with the random gibberish about "the essence of a species".

I believe in God, souls, etc. I do not however, go around and shove my views on other people and try to "disprove" their beliefs, so why are you? I'm friends with plenty of athiests, and we get along just dandy, thanks very much.

Great for you. Personally, I find it difficult to take people seriously if they insist on believing in things which are demonstrably false.I'm friends with plenty of athiests [sic], and we get along just dandy, thanks very much.
