I like the Fade section a lot actually. Yes, the constant backtracking is a bit annoying, but the shapeshifting is great and a nice change from the standard tank-and-spank. Fade shapeshifting is close to what mage shapeshifting should have been. It'd be nice to have a bear form that can actually tank, or a spider form that does reasonable DPS, or maybe a sylvan/Lady of the Forest style healing form. But that's another rant.

First time I was still hack-n-slash using the shapeshifting only as a means to get to other areas. Naturally I got hurt a lot so I hated it then.

Second time I mostly played it in shapeshifted form, switching a lot between forms has a lot shorter time before long-range attacks are available again. Got a real kick out of beating whole rooms of baddies and actually was kind of disappointed when I got my party back. So at the moment I love it.

That's the best part.  I love having to backtrack across maps.  It's a good way to make the game appear less linear.

Count me as one who really enjoyed this par t of the game, even the third time through.

I like the less linear approach to things, and felt that the solo shape-shifting played like a good mini game should--a whole different set of rules for a while, but still fun.

I guess some people hate backtracking, bit I found this section far les tedious that the usual hack your way straight down a hall-way-with-rooms style of most DA:O dungeons.

I abhorred the weird "Fade Filter". The fact that the Fade section was marred by unnecessary and uniteresting backtracking made the entire experience feel like my testicles were torn off, sewn back on, and torn off once more.

To all of those calling it a puzzle...No, just no. It was a lesson in virtual hiking, nothing more. It would have been more BioWare-ish if you could choose the order in which you can visit the areas, and the order changes the ultimate outcome. On hind-sight, it really SHOULD have been done like that.

I finished yesterday the fade section of my 3-in-one run. 3 chars, saved games right before entering the room in the tower and, one char at a time, full fade run. It is pretty fast, damn nice rewards and it was a hell of a fun to mix the abilities of 3 different chars with the morphs available.

Even my poor elven rogue archer who I though would not make it 'cause pure archer sux at low levels, actually gave me great satisfation in the end! He'll be as epic as my old AA/bard elven archer, some day!

I don't mind it, even after so many trips through.  I usually turn on the music and sing my way through itImage IPB

Oh god the Fade. I absolutely hate it. Its repetitive and has tons of backtracking. Only good thing is there are stat bonuses but i dont think its worth it

I weep for joy when I land back in The Circle. Hatehatehate the Fade. It looks just like my nightmares did when I was little, a grey and squiggly. Brings back some lovely memories. Not. That, and I get so bored. I find it really repetitive. There just isn't enough storyline to keep it interesting for me. My second go through I only picked up a few of the bonuses because I was rushing through it as fast as I could.

The fade is my least favorite part of the game. I hated it so much that after getting through it I did not play the game for a few days.

I loved the Fade the first time. As a previous poster said, the shapeshifting worked like it should have-- felt very much like authentic magic, not just "spell caster as artillery". As a side note, the mouse/stealth form would be a useful shape for the shapeshifter specialization.

The second time, the Fade had too much wandering to hold my interest. I already knew what I needed to do, so it was just a slog. That said, I still love the art. It was like wandering through a Hieronymous Bosch painting.

It's a cool section with all the shapeshifting.  Shapeshifting done right imo.  My first time through I had a difficult time, but on my 2nd playthrough it was pretty easy to do.

Fireballing yourself is kinda fun in Burningman mode. Overall I liked the zone but could see how some find it annoying.

I HATE THE FADE!!! If Maric wanted to conquer the fade I'd definately leave Loghain to lead the charge and go home.

I loved the fade. In fact, I had no idea people hated the fade until this thread. I thought it was very well made and a nice change of pace. All the shapeshifts and little side stories in there are great. It was a little long though. The Mage's tower was my second favorite questline overall, Brecillian Forest being the first.

I personally hate Orzammar, not because of what it was but because it was so LONG!

if you don't like the section, side with the templars and have the tower annulled. Done.

Myself, I liked the section.

For me, Fade and Deep Roads were the most atmospheric and dark/spooky places in the game. Also they were the places with the less linear structure. So in few words, Fade was cool.

Loved the Fade, it was sort of reminiscent of Tel'aran'rhiod from the Wheel of Time saga.

This was actually my least favourite part of the game so far and I'm sort of dreading having to do it again on successive playthroughs.

This could be at least partly to do with the fact it was the first alliance I went after, so my understanding of the gameplay was still sketchy. It seemed like I spent hours continually exploding myself in room after room.

On my 4th playthrough and I still like The Fade. Yes, it can drag on in parts, and I do sometimes get annoyed having to go back to a section just to blast through a wall and get a attribute point, but overall... it's well done and like others have said, a nice break. I kind of like not having my team follow me around too, being able to nuke everything myself and not have to listen to my party members whine about taking damage is awesome, lol.

Also, kudos to the person who mentioned Bosch! That's exactly what I thought the first time I went through it.

I enjoyed the fade a lot in my 2 play-throughs. It was kind of refreshing not to have any moral dilemmas for awhile. The golem v golems battle was a lot of fun in particular - like a bar room brawl in an old western. Would have been even better if it had taken place in a China shop lol.
