Now, I've heard a lot of people saying that those who despise the ending are just a vocal minority, and that the popular opinion is that the ending was good.

Unfortunately, this is simply not the case. You simply have to weigh up all the factors. Statistics can be trumped up and overstated, human perspective is far more valuable. Consider all the aspects. Fanfiction/fanart/fan opinion and survey results, all of these give an indication as to the majority opinion.

I know about nineteen people who play Mass Effect. If one or two of us hated the ending with such passion that we raged about it all the time, but the rest were positive or neutral about it, then yes, I'd have to say that its simply a vocal minority. But without exception, every last one of them is an 'ending hater'. They point out the plotholes, they are confused about why our choices didn't matter, and none of them have seen any of the 'sixteen different endings'. Hell, my Lit professor, a man with a pair of doctoral dissertations under his belt, dedicated a whole class to explaining the flaws of adding new themes at the very ending of a story.

Look on websites like FF.net or DeviantArt, in the Mass Effect sections. Is it simply a case of a loud minority whining about the end? No, it is a widespread and overwhelming dissatisfaction. Hell, even Jennifer Hale is on record about how she's in denial about the ending. Look around and measure the people you know who dislike the ending against those that do. The answers should speak for themselves.

No, it's not a vocal minority complaining. It's the majority making themsleves heard.

Thank you for your attention.

Many of "vocal minority" arguments I've seen from people seem to center around the amount of copies sold versus the number of FB Retake ME likes. They claim that since "only" 60,000(!) "like" Retake the other approximately 2.94 million must like the endings. The errors in that logic are obvious and I honestly don't know if they are serious in their assertion or simply looking to start a fight.
