How do I get the ability to make my chars a blood mage? I want to make Morrigan one. My main char is a rogue, so I can't get it through the Urn of Sacred Ashes, and I was never presented the option in the fade against the desire demon during the first main Redcliff quest.

You can only unlock it while playing a Mage. It has nothing to do with the Urn.

The Urn is for reaver. Taleroth is correct you play the game as a mage character to unlock blood mage. if you send in mage from your party the option for the training doesnt trigger.
If your playing the game as a lawful good character getting reaver will mess up some group characters. Best to save the game then do the unlock and reload after your done. Onces the game unlocks the path you can reload the file and the path stays on unlock. Same if you start a new character the paths you unlocked from an older game stays unlocked.
