Since 1998, I am a long-time fan of Bioware games. I've played BG1 and 2, IWD1 and 2, PS:T, NWN1 and 2 and all expansions. (And Jade Empire too.)
Since that time, I'm strictly a single player gamer, and I don't really care for player made modules/expansions or online functions.
I do want official expansions/content though, and I'm willing to pay for it. But, there are two requirements:
1. The content should not depend on an internet connection or online functions. (Because of this, I never bought the NWN Premium modules, that depend on being always online.)
2. It should be possible to backup the content.
The reason for this is that I am prone to play/replay games I like for a very long time. Now and again, I still do a Baldur's Gate run. I don't want to depend on (online) features that might not be available anymore in several years.
So, does the DLC work without using online functions (except for the initial download of course?) and is there a possibility to backup the DLC, short of zipping up the entire game folder after every addition?
Thanks for any answer.

When you purchase a DLC and download it the website should track that your account bought it so if you have to reinstall you would be able to download it again for free.

Hmm... *bump*
Could someone who already has this game shed some light on this?

He means to say is there a way for us to back up the DLC without the need to redownload them when we reinstall it or transfer an install in the case that someone is limited on bandwith or has a slow connection.
I believe they're saved in your \\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\AddIns folder.
DAO_PRC_PROMO_C2 is the Collector's Edition DLC (The 3 exclusive items)
DAO_PRC_PROMO_LKS is the Lucky Stone DLC
DAO_PRC_CP_2 is the Stone Prisoner DLC.
You can also go to the Settings Folder and open the AddIns.xml file and read what the DLC are

Sorry for the extra bump. The forum seems to be flaky.
So, I do need t have the game itself log in on the Bioware site, to download content?
For the initial download, this is fine, but I want to store the content offline, and be able to restore it offline too. Maybe this community site does not live to see 10 years, but if I like Dragon Age, it is very well possible that I'll be still (re)playing it in 2020. I don't want my content to be gone by then, when the community/website possibly dies.
(I have some BG2 mods, that are NOWHERE to be found on the internet because the developing sites of that time are gone; still, I'd not want to play BG2 without those mods ever again...)

Gotta agree with katsunami, there is nothing worse than trying to hunt around on the internet for the PATCH to a game that came out fifteen years ago, just so you can install it on your new computer and maybe play for an hour. Especially if you have to work or go to school. That hour I spend looking everywhere for SOMEWHERE that has the patch or content could be my entire gaming day as an adult!

Hey.
I downloaded the extra content, played for a while, and reinstalled windows..
When i installed the game again, i could not install the content again, even the ones with the redeem code and the buyable ones.
Any suggestions what to do?

I want to know this too, I'm going to move to a new computer soon.
I have XP on this comp, figuring Vista will be on the next one, so what will happen if I download everything essential on an external drive and then make the new system.
I feel quite cautious already, only thinking about it....
I'm not a Grey Warden irl, but I can sense darkspawn anytime when it comes to MS.

I have found the directories for the two pieces of downloadable content but how would I install/run them once I've moved the directories and files to a new computer. I am giving myself a new gaming rig for Christmas, and I will need to install DAO on there instead, and I'd like to take along the downloadable content, as well as my current character...
Help?

This has -nothing- to do with Microsoft. It has to do with Bioware and EA.
As long as Bioware and EA are operational, you can just re-install the game and redownload downloadable content (I hope). You can do that manually also when you can get the links. All links for downloadable content are here:
http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613
Scroll to section 4.1, download, and install using daupdater.exe in the DAO install folder.
Please only install DLC you are entitled to, or you might get into trouble with the online profile or something. (installing non-redeemed DLC could clash with the online profile, I suppose.)

I don't think bioware will disappear though this game has sold incredibly well as has mass effect. So ten years from now I expect the official downloadable content you will still be able to find. Unoffical no idea. Now bioware is of course not going to answer your question because they don't want you copying it and giving it to anyone who hasn't paid for it. A position I hope you understand.
