EA announces Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut

If you think Mass Effect is filled with "bad, inconsistent writing" and have deconstructed the endings in a huge way that you can only accept a total plot change, then I think you need to accept that the game is what it is and move on. I don't think they are going to significantly change things around.
It's very likely, for instance, that their future plans involve a mass-relay free universe, and I suspect this is the reason why a lot of the endings are similar. They're not going to disrupt this vision because some people want to keep the status quo.

And AGAIN....the ending cutscene is set a very long way in the future...Shepherd has 'passed into legend'....so AGAIN...it's obvious no one has done anythign for God knows how long...thus...relays have not been rebuilt etc etc etc....
This is nothing but idle speculation. There is no context for the stinger whatsoever. The only thing confirmed is that Shepard's name will live in legend for untold aeons. It is not a statement that no new Relays get built or that "nobody does anything".

“We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.
"more personalized" looks good though. At least one concern will be addressed. What I really need appears not to be in, though: more exposition by the starchild as to why the cycle was necessary, instead of a simple assertion.
Ield...look at my sig...
Casey has promised/stated/said that before you know

I have yet to see the "MANY irrevocable plotholes and illogical nonsense" (Bloody hyperbole, I am so sick of this being repeated at nauseam.... it has no more plot holes than ME2 ending(s)...)
-- Shepard doesn't know how to operate the Crucible. Does anyone? They didn't tell him???
-- magic space elevator?
-- Character introduced from nowhere in last 10 minutes to explain the plot (macguffin)
-- Dark Energy foreshadowing from previous games tossed out the door
-- Starchild somehow looks like the kid you've been dreaming about the entire game
-- "Synthetics have to kill organics to save organics" hogwash
-- Ending ignores choices you've made through game; synthetic-organic cooperation is pointless
-- endings seem to be a direct lift of the final choices from the original Deus Ex
-- the "best" ending (the one that needs the highest amount of EMS to obtain) is "Synthesis" (Saren's plan)
-- "Synthesis" ending is ridiculous, uses unexplained technology and amounts to forced changes for all of galaxy
-- "Destroy" ending has Shepard walk up to exploding generator for no real reason
-- endings betray the themes set up throughout trilogy (free will, overcoming the odds, unity)
-- despite giving us hope in the prior games, endings all end with galaxy in hopeless situation
-- Mass Relay system is destroyed in all endings; no evidence to the contrary
-- Cutscenes pretty much look the same (with a couple small differences)
-- different coloured explosions (in three delicious flavours!)
-- No closure or resolution for squadmates, NPC's, Normandy, etc.
-- Liara or A/K flashback - any other love interest? Liara flashback for you!
-- squadmates teleport back to Normandy, even if they were shown lying dead on the ground after Harbinger attack
-- Normandy is inexplicably fleeing during Shepard's decision? Really?
-- unexplained "Shepard Lives" scene (is he on the Citadel? In London? In space?)
-- bizarre "Stargazer" scene that has no real point
You're ignorant if you think there are no problems with it. This list is only scratching the surface.

plus the offer expires on 12 april 2014...so that means you will need to buy it after 2 years??
I seriously think EA underestimates the situation..

This doesn't tank IT at all, in fact I'd say IT was stronger for it.
Not to be dense but, how does adding cinematic and epilogue scenes strengthen IT? As I understand it, there will be no further gameplay, so everything that happens after the end of ME3 will be "automated." Doesn't IT require that Shepard still be an active character controlled by the player?
It seems to me we're getting something similar to DAO's Epilogue slides with a few added cinematics.
At least it's free.
Any proof for the bolded part?
If this WAS so, they'd release it much sooner.

You still have nemesis. It doesn't have to be ONE nemesis but it has to be a big one. It has to equal the previous one. You cannot go from Reapers to unruly mercs. Talk about MEH!
I see your point. Truly. I guess I am thinking more long term. Example- Sci-fi writer Peter F. Hamilton wrote a two book series set in the 25th Century. He then came out with a new trilogy set in the sme universe, but 1000 years in the future. The mechanics, lore, etc. were all intact, but by then new antagonists had been established. I'm picturing a ME4 set way in the future, threats from outside the Galaxy, what have you.
But whatevs, homie. I respect your viewpoint.

all of your assumptions that this won't fix any previous perceived plot holes are ASSUMPTIONS
Now that you mention that, what if it's a cutscene of Shepard waking up from his sleep (assuming indoctrination/helusination) and then it ends on a to be continued. Holding out hope

Plus, the fact that it's coming out in the summer instead of immediately (Which WOULD indicate just a few slapped together text boxes & scenes) also indicates that it'll be more than just a few minutes of cutscenes/text epilogues.
Why are people acting like the Summer is a long time away?
Bioware were not planning on this content until end of march. We are now beginning of April. Summer begins in June. 2 months.
They have to get it through microsoft/sony, they need it content tested by the people who age rate games etc. For a AAA game content update, 2 months is a really small amount of time. I really wouldn't go expecting more than just a few minute of cutscenes and text epilogues, especially as it is free.
Great points. I'm sure people will complian that it won't be long enough too.

So will this DLC fix the following plotholes? P.S Found this on the gametrailers forums:
How did Shepard survive the Harbingers beam? Radio tells everyone was decimated. How Anderson and Illusive man make their way to the citadel? The conduit was the ONLY way there... How did they make their way to the same control panel thingy as there was only one way leading there and that way was the way Shepard went... Why did the reapers leave protecting the conduit after that one attack against Shepard? What the hell is the place were Shepard is after going through the conduit? How does Shepard's radio still work as his suit and equipment is in pieces? Why does Hackett contact Shepard when the radio told that everybody died? Why are there cars traveling on the citadel? How do the squadmates who died around you to the Harbinger's beam make it to the Normandy?
Why was Normandy fleeing the battle? Where did all the talk about dark energy go? The entire plot and story revolving around the crucible is a massive deus ex machina plot-device. Who the **** is this catalyst kid? Why does he lack in intelligence and fail at logic? Why can't I ask anything from it? How do the choices make any sense? Why do the Mass relays have to get destroyed? What the hell is up with the color coding? How do organic and synthetic life suddenly merge? Why does Shepard have to sacrifice himself and throw himself to a beam/electrocute himself? Who was the sadistic piece of **** who designed this device?
So did Shepard actually survive on the "worst" ending? Did the solar systems with mass relays get destroyed like ME2's Arrival teach us? I feel so good for uniting the galaxy and then destroy everything I've accomplished while killing myself. Oh and good trying to survive, Normandy's crew, on that random planet you just crash landed on. Especially with non-suitable food for Garrus and Tali/other crewmembers and whatnot. Not to mention all the fleets stranded around earth. They will starve to death. etc etc
Good luck at clarifying that Bioware....
the epilogue will read
SPACE MAGIC
I presume you do realise that the biggest piece of Space Magic of all are the Mass Relays themselves
Yes and no. I look at them as more like wormhole generators. You have an entry and exit controlled by one pair of relays. THAT at least uses real life physics and speculation from real life physics. Eezo and all that is not at all real world physics based...but still, the relays could be reimagined into something NOT space magicky.
In any case they are MUCH less magic wand waving space magic than the star kid with his magic green belch that somehow magically alters DNA (what alters? The sugar backbone? The bases? The conformation? Just the phosphates?)

ME3 isn't some arthouse indie game which can afford to alienate the majority of players with the ending, it's the CRPG equivalent of a major Hollywood blockbuster, and consequently really does need to gun for an ending that most people are happy with (unless Matrix Revolutions was actually a resounding success in your world). Anyone who imagines otherwise is seriously kidding themselves.Ria wrote...
Also, the feedback on the ending, while overwhelmingly negative, is not unified to support one solution. There are plenty of people who are able to live with the whole starchild debacle if there's proper closure. You're not happy with it? That's unfortunate, but creative works are not meant to please everyone, not necessarily even the majority. An RPG like ME3 should respect the player agency but it does not need to deliver a fit for all ending.

This announcement just made me groan in consternation. They really intended to ship that FKing garbage ending on 3/6/12. And I suppose this is a win for the Bioware sycophants and people who would have settled for a few more epilogue slides. Enjoy those "free" extended cutscenes made from the money bilked from you and your fellow gamers, guys. I wish I shared your enthusiasm and acceptance of how the wheels fell right off the story in the end, but I don't.

IF that info is 100% true, than sorry, but few cutscenes and a sprinkle of text here and there will not cut it.
It's free because there's probably minimum possible actual work/new ideas involved.

The Relays are not "wormhole generators" (which is a huge pile of space magic in itself with barely anything to do with real physics). They give negative mass to an object that goes through them and navigate it to another Relay. No bending of space-time involved here.
But you need to get over yourself and realize that Mass Effect is not realistic scifi and has never been.

Pre Announcement: The ending doesn't make sense - Post Announcement: The ennding will be clarified in order for it to make sense?! Boo they should have re-written half the game.
Pre Ann.: I won't pay a single dollar for this ending DLC. I will only download it if it's free - Post Ann.: This will probably suck since it's free so clearly something low quality.
Bioware is not using my theory and they are not retconing Thane's death that was very nicely done and was foreshadowed since his recruitment mission? Booo Bioware has lost the ability to write stories.
No offence guys, but you are the worst human beings I have ever come across. I am personally glad that everyone who died stays dead. Even Shepard. Especially Shepard. IT says that Shepard's survival is the only good ending and it's renegade color is a reaper trick. No. It's red because it really is the renegade choice. Instead of sacrificing himself, the selfish a-hole shepard is sacrificing EDI and the geth.
All I wanted from this ending was to bring closure to the all the NPC-s I have worked with. I'll be getting just that. For free. And since it will not be released for a long time, we can guess that they will spend a long time polishing it, or that it will be a pretty long clarification.
For those of you who will leave BW for Blizzard, do it, just don't expect any story, and don't get used to the progression system ,since it will not last longer than a year. Skyrim? Okay, do it. I enjoyed it a lot, until I got fed up with the fact that leveling up 8 levels in the middle of a dungeon didn't make things any easier, or the lack of loot progression, or the fact that I couldn't really find a good reason to care about all the stuff I had to do or could do in the -I admit pretty impressive - world. For me, Bioware will remain the single dev team I still trust. Especially after this announcement

By then how many people will care? This is just a PR bid to avoid an unpleasent PAX. They may even turn around after a couple of months and say the plans have been dropped, like they did with DA2 DLC.
