Questions:

1) Is this free?

2) Do I need to renew Gold in order to download it?

Cuz I am fed up to here with EA and Microsoft.

Yes its free

Sort of.  Isn't it true that you cannot do free on an xbox?  I do PC only so don't know but people in these forums have stated that you CAN'T get free anything on xbox.

Wrong. You can get free on Xbox.

So, I imagine you will have to play the whole finale to experience this extra extened ending? So will it be the new default ending, say if you were to buy the game new? Is this the saem kind of thing as a Theatrical or Extended cut of a movie? And the original verison will no longer exist?

I'm very curoius about how DLC is ging to work for ME3 since after the finale you get dumped back in time.

I'm glad there was an announcement on this issue and there is some kind of an effort to clarify some of the confusion created by their 'artistic vision', however, what happened to the 'we are listening' mantra? Guess they listened and decided to not hear or only heard what they wanted.

The 217,000 replies posted in the thread created here to get our suggestions from 'some fans' regarding feedback was pointless and set up to appease the fans that just don't seem to get their artistic integrity.

I will hold out hope that the extended DLC will bring about closure and give me that, I want to play again feeling, but 'creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes' is not exactly what I was hoping to get from my ME experience. If I wanted to go to the movie, I'd go when it came out.

I'm trying not to be sour about this as I do appreciate that some kind of effort is being made and really hope that it will help but its seems rather insulting..."Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? Very much so and we are responding." Yea, right.

To explain it so hopefully everyone can understand.

Bioware promised us they knew what we wanted for an ending, and promised us that they would not give us poo.  Then the game comes out, and we find out that the ending is a choice between cow poo, horse poo, and dog poo.  Customers complain, and make their voices heard over different formats.  Bioware says that it is their artistic integrity to use poo as an ending.  Customers complain more. EA stocks go down, especially after winning the Golden Poo award as worst American company.  Bioware promises a free dlc from material they probably already had made, that didn't survive the editing process.  But instead of a new ending, they are saying that it will be the same poo as before, but inside a gift box, with a bow on top.

For some people, that did not read Bioware's announcement close enough, they think they are giving us what we wanted.  But we certainly do not want the same old poo, with more poo heaped on top of it.

The Win.

My take.

This is an attempt to turn an already bad situation into a revenue generating situation. They opted not to listen to fans concerns, and instead are holding fast to the original ending fans didn't like.

I strongly believe this is being done for a purpose, the ending of ME3 very strongly indicates that the intent was to end with a "Cliffhanger" and then to introduce the real endings as DLC later with the hopes of 100% sell through and almost no trade-ins. The belief was they could get people to hold onto their copies and hypothisize about what happened to shepherd. Obviously, it backfired.

This DLC is an ill-advised attempt to hold on to the original strategy. I strongly suspect the DLC they offer will be designed such that it will be a lead in to the planned DLC, not a resolution to the series as we were told we would get with the game itself. It's likely to be a DLC teaser-trailer.

I'm actually amazed at EA's ability to take a catastrophic situation, and in the quest for more money, make it apocalyptic. Because if I'm right, and long-time posters on this board know I have a trend right now, this is going to ignite a whole new firestorm.

I really doubt EA's going to survive this.

Quoted for absolute truth.

The fight isn't over quite yet. We need to see this ending first, until then, hodl on to your wallets, even in face of DLC in the meantime. We need to use the only voice they understand (our money) to ensure we get at least an ending that answers the more gaping plot holes.

Way to half listen to us BioWare/EA only AFTER your stock starts to fall.

I did have the intention, provided this mess would get cleared up, to buy back my game. Now I don't really care.

It just goes to show you that when you fall short on your product versus what you promised AND you merely placate your customer/user base versus doing the right thing you suffer the consequences: people won't trust you or buy your products.

EA = Electronic Aspersion

I don't know whether I should laugh or cry....  I don't know how the star child and joker fleeing scene could even be properly explained....  If they don't change the endings I feel its still not going to make sense..

Exactly... we didnt win anything....  This so called new ending might take up to 6 months to a year to come out.  And by then most of us would have the fight taken out of us for having to wait that long.

Bioware, it boils down to this: You simply did not deliver the product you promised. "vastly different endings" and "closure". Keep your free DLC. Just admit that you came up with a lousy ending, period. BTW, i will not be buying anymore mass effect games that you guys come up with. But thats just me.

They said it would be out by the summer...and that it would be free.
But still...It feels more like a slap in the face and ultimately a defeat above all else. :?

Shame. Bioware are keeping a mediocre ending that isn't worthy of this series, thanks for destroying your trilogy.

If the DLC is bad, well, I will just move on. No need to hold the line anymore because we can't get more than we just did.

Bioware listened (if they didn't, there would not be any DLC). Maybe the ending will make sense. I don't want to speculate anymore.

More content, hopefully more schematics with our squadmates helping fight the good fight along with and extended space battles. Hope they have this along with their expanded ending, wonder how long into the summer? Another month? Or well into the end of summer? Hopefully someone asks this at pax! :) thanks bioware for the additional content.

Here's a fact. A STONE COLD FACT. IF Bioware actually goes ahead with the ME movie, obviously with the intent on doing a trilogy, the 3rd movie in the installment WILL NOT have the fecal-smeared ending of the game. No it wont. See, when they try to pass that loser past a test audience, it will BITE THE DUST. In the end, IF they do the trilogy, the 3rd movie will have the ending that the game SHOULD have gotten. Their "artistic vision" will not win out.

As for "artistic vision"...I don't want your "visions". Sober up (honestly!). Your drug and alcohol-addled "visions" are NOT a viable basis for story endings. You need to be stone-cold sober/clean so you can plot out a real ending. You need full access to your mental faculties. Faculties unclouded by meth, coke, whiskey, pot, mushrooms, etc. I'm only trying to help you here. GET CLEAN and THEN write your endings.

Well it's good to know what Bioware plans for the ending debacle, though from sounds of things it isn't going to satisfy a lot of those who had issues with the ending. Anyhow I feel like I can now proceed with the game until the end, and hope like
crazy that I'm one of the few who actually like the ending.

Weskerr wrote...

I am very, very, very skeptical about how well additional cinematics and cut scenes will improve the ending, especially since it will be free. People tend to not work as hard for free as they do when expecting a check at the end of the day for their effort. I doubt the quality of this - (clarification)? - will be good.

Just because it's free doesn't mean those making it aren't getting a paycheck. So there's no reason to believe that those working on it aren't going to be working hard. However because it's free, EA/Bioware may not want to allocate that much money to make it, which can affect the quality. Though I'm certainly glad they aren't charging for it, if it helps improve the ending in anyway.

My boss has a saying that I think fits with what I just read:

"You can only polish a turd so much."
