We won!!! the wrath of gamers united is a terrible thing to behold.Lets hope bioware thinks twice before presenting us with some half *** ending in future titles *cough* da3 *cough*.

The fight isn't over quite yet. We need to see this ending first, until then, hodl on to your wallets, even in face of DLC in the meantime. We need to use the only voice they understand (our money) to ensure we get at least an ending that answers the more gaping plot holes.

Exactly... we didnt win anything....  This so called new ending might take up to 6 months to a year to come out.  And by then most of us would have the fight taken out of us for having to wait that long.

They said it would be out by the summer...and that it would be free.
But still...It feels more like a slap in the face and ultimately a defeat above all else. :?

I was under the impression we were all fighting for an epilogue showing what became of our lovers and crew mates and if any babies were produced during our final nights of passion

@aurica - *slap* we must forever hold the line soldier lest the rEApers indoctrinate and destroy us all

Bioware, it boils down to this: You simply did not deliver the product you promised. "vastly different endings" and "closure". Keep your free DLC. Just admit that you came up with a lousy ending, period. BTW, i will not be buying anymore mass effect games that you guys come up with. But thats just me.

I hope and expect someone to mention that 'vastly different endings' line to their Q/A session at PAX...and pray someone captures their response on video.

To explain it so hopefully everyone can understand.

Bioware promised us they knew what we wanted for an ending, and promised us that they would not give us poo.  Then the game comes out, and we find out that the ending is a choice between cow poo, horse poo, and dog poo.  Customers complain, and make their voices heard over different formats.  Bioware says that it is their artistic integrity to use poo as an ending.  Customers complain more. EA stocks go down, especially after winning the Golden Poo award as worst American company.  Bioware promises a free dlc from material they probably already had made, that didn't survive the editing process.  But instead of a new ending, they are saying that it will be the same poo as before, but inside a gift box, with a bow on top.

For some people, that did not read Bioware's announcement close enough, they think they are giving us what we wanted.  But we certainly do not want the same old poo, with more poo heaped on top of it.

The Win.

:lol::lol: I love this post.

My boss has a saying that I think fits with what I just read:

"You can only polish a turd so much."

What I'm afraid of is that they're going to dip the turd in chocolate and try to pass it off as a sweet treat. I'm not sure why, but I'm still holding out hope that this DLC will make me want to keep replaying ME3 with all my other Sheps. It may be shaken hope - nervious, skeptical hope - but it's still hope none the less.

Hmmm...I guess the most upsetting thing for me regarding this is that this truly was the intended ending... Choices that I believed to be integral to the story itself- the Rachni, Krogan genophage, Geth and Quarian conflict, Collectors, all resolved to be a score multiplier for the final act. The premise of the game always seemed to me to be about having the freedom to choose the type of hero you were going to be. The promise I feel that was made was that those choices were going to matter, because if they're not - at least for me - it makes this rich and beautiful universe a much more mundane place to play in. My girlfriend and I were shocked when I first beat the game- thinking immediately that I just didn't have enough "Choice Points" for a good ending...but a brief trip to the internet showed me otherwise; that was the ending. At that point I walked away from the game. Then a friend introduced me to the Indoctrination Theory and I felt like all hope had been restored. I felt like Bioware had performed literally one of the most amazing, clever, coup's in gaming. I went back to playing- it felt like it made sense- the rationale worked for me and it meant that in theory a bit of epic closure was still at hand. We would still see Tali have a future, the prospect of having the Krogan and the Rachni join the council...so many fantastic options to see.
Then I read this announcement...and most of this shattered a bit for me. As much as these games were about the journey- even more so, for me - they have always been about the ending, the culmination of all of these decisions that immersed you so deeply due to the active role you played in the story. Personally this shakes my faith in Bioware and the Mass Effect series in general. From a personal standpoint realizing this is truly the way the series was set to end reinforces my own suspicion that Bioware games are probably not for me- which is a shame due to the time and money I've invested in the series. So many saves... so that any eventuality I was interested in was covered before reaching 3...I honestly thought I would be playing this game all summer just trying to get different endings and seeing the multitude of ways the galaxy could unfold...unfortunately it doesn't appear to unfold- it seemed to just collapse on itself in a very fatalistic way.
I do appreciate that Bioware is releasing some additional scenes for the epilogue, again I'm mostly saddened that after this amount of time investment -( and acknowledging my evidently horrible understanding of what the game series was suppose to achieve at the 3rd titles resolution)- this was truly the way an otherwise stellar series was to conclude. I realize I'm only one person out of the many who bought and played the game, and that I'm not a regular poster on the site ( as I'm a full-time working adult and a part time student- just not enough hours in the day) but I do want to say this has deterred me from continuing forward with the Mass Effect ( and Dragon Age series) at least from a video game standpoint. Thanks for providing a place to voice my thoughts on the series it's gratifying that you take the time to read these posts.

I just read a BBC article about the DLC announcement and it said;
"The extension to Mass Effect 3 is a high profile example of a publisher responding to fan demands, even if they were a vocal minority."

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty d@mn sure we're not a "vocal minority."

I'm glad there was an announcement on this issue and there is some kind of an effort to clarify some of the confusion created by their 'artistic vision', however, what happened to the 'we are listening' mantra? Guess they listened and decided to not hear or only heard what they wanted.

The 217,000 replies posted in the thread created here to get our suggestions from 'some fans' regarding feedback was pointless and set up to appease the fans that just don't seem to get their artistic integrity.

I will hold out hope that the extended DLC will bring about closure and give me that, I want to play again feeling, but 'creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes' is not exactly what I was hoping to get from my ME experience. If I wanted to go to the movie, I'd go when it came out.

I'm trying not to be sour about this as I do appreciate that some kind of effort is being made and really hope that it will help but its seems rather insulting..."Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? Very much so and we are responding." Yea, right.

Sorry, but this is nothing less than a slap in the face with this announcement.

BW created a "We're Listening" thread that contains 576 pages, and a "Suggested Changes" thread with 243 pages. Were these threads just to pacify us and a PR ploy? Everyone who posted in those threads was more -or-less just wasting their time and effort ?

It would seem that all of those posts meant absolutely nothing, and we were just lead along like sheep. Sure, we're getting something for the effort; clarity and understanding of the "artistic integrity" set forth at the endings. In a PR nutshell, they are basically telling many of us that we are too ignorant and mentally challenged to "get it". Myself, I find that a little repulsive, as I would tend to think other fans would / should as well. I don't need to be lead by the hand like a 5 yr old kid, and be told that there is a Santa Claus or an Easter Bunny. Hopefully, as logical thinking adults, we have a little bit more self respect than that.

If they want to explain away the failed endings to those who have only played ME3, then power to them. But for those of us that have devoted all of the HOURS, all of the EFFORTS, and all of the EMOTIONAL DEVOTION into playing all 3 games in this trilogy, sorry, but it just doesn't cut it BW.

(Edit: I had posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here.)

When one is IN the forest, all you can see are trees. You cannot actually see the forest. ("Can't see the forest for the trees"). In graduate school, before you give your thesis defense, you do dry runs. You gather other graduate students who are not invested in your research and they listen to you as give your draft of a thesis defense. This is important. It puts outside eyes on you and outside ears on you so they can pick your presentation apart, helping you determine the weak points and identify the strong points. This technique has application for a lot of areas. You write a novel, you don't just send it to the publisher and expect them to publish it. You pass around drafts to people around you who agree to read it and critique it. It is for your own good.

This same technique is used in movies. The outside audience is called a "test audience". They pass judgement on the movie and their input leads to the "artist" who wrote/directed it to CHANGE it as needed. This technique REALLY needs to be used with video games that hang on stories. Seriously. It is needed badly. The Bioware writers (Hudson mostly alone) get all lost in their own private world and "vision" and simply CANNOT properly judge their output. They CANNOT. They are far too deep in the middle of it and far too invested in it. They need outside eyes. They need disinterested 3rd parties to critique their sh*t so they don't fall into this common trap.

You cannot be taken seriously if you refuse to use the tools and methods that virtually all other forms of presentation and entertainment use to hone their sh*t. You are NOT immune to stupidity, tunnel vision, groupthink, etc. You are NOT. You could have saved yourselves repeated pain by using simple, common sense methods to get the forest back into view beyond the trees.

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?
[*]
  • No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the
end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will
expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.
What is BioWare adding to the ending with the Extended Cut DLC?

Oh you mean the endings with little to now difference between all of them other than the color of the magic beam?

And whose artistic vision is this referring to, the whole dev team or the two people who wrote the ending in the first place?

How DARE you disrespect and suggest changes to "artistic integrity"? That is BioWares prerogative, due this summer.

The crying is hilarious here. It just proves customers/'fans'a re the most selfish, most evil, most arrogant, most self absorbed, and the biggest piece ofc raps in the known universe.

Don't like it too bad. That's what i say.

For those who hate the ending this much (l0l it's nowhere enar BIO's worst five endings and the game has more important things wrong with it than not having 20 million different lame endings or showing you having sex with your new video game wife while your baby boy watches); you better not buy the next BIO game. If you do, and I see you whining I'll laugh at you again.

Then again, EA is the 'worst' company in the world accoridng to gamer geeks on the interent yet they have MILLIONS of REPEAT customers.

p.s. ME3 ending > BG2 ending... L0L To be a god or not to be a god!?! DEEP!

Stay on topic. This thread is about ME3 not Volourn. That belongs in off topic or on the Codex. R00fles!

P.S. More seriously, thiis DLC is not needed. It is extremely wasteful of resources. It will NOT please those who hate the endings. Total garbage.

It's not about artistic integrity. It's about money. What we want won't make them the most profit. Or so they think.
