You have a point. But why not wait (at least until tomorrow) before judging by yourself?

I mean, at least they're putting effort into doing something. We still have to see if it will be worth it or not, yes, but come on, at least give them the benefit of the doubt before outright dismissing their work.

I already gave them the benefit of the doubt and they gave me a starchild.

We don't even know for certain if they're 'putting effort' into it or just finishing off some of the cut content already on-disc and keeping the release late to keep us hopeful and fit in with the release of their already-finished DLC.

None of the wording here sounds like they're listening to what we had to say. They're hiding behind 'artistic vision' and telling us we just didn't understand. Maybe I'm a cynic. All I know is fool me twice, shame on me.

Sorry the more they promised you was a game. You did got a game. With the feature "Take back the earth". Sorry my box cover doesn't say anything else than that on it.

Casey Hudson wrote...

“… part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving… I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

I'm going to go with this one for now. EA making an announcement before Bioware? Just before PAX? Seems a bit odd to me. Image IPB

Denial much? Do you people know it's on EA's servers and was sent to press agencies? Seriously guys

Wait and see...

But I've got a bad feeling about this.

Cautiously optimistic; if epilogue sliders and a CG cutscene is all that they are planning, I'll be okay with it. Not satisfied with the bizzaro-way the story ended, but okay.

"Wrex and Tali, after your death at the hands of the colour red, invented teleportation and beamed back to Tuchanka. Tali, not upset at the death of her lover Shepard, used the transmogrifier to turn herself into a Krogan, and everyone jitterbugged till the end of time.

So yeah, ideally it'd have been a complete revamp of the last mission, plus a new ending that didn't seem to break the lore of the previous games, or require thousands of pages of speculative psychological and scientific fanfiction to understand at all.

We'll see. \\o/

Maybe not exactly thrilled but clearly many posters in this thread are on a 'wait and see' attitude which differs from your defeatist one.

This is a PR move. They are doing this to try to calm the waters before PAX because they know there is going to be a furore at PAX if they don't do something. This still has little real substance in it.

Also if this does turn out to be true. It is another massive slap in the face. We want a new ending that erases the current one.

Agreed.  They were proably going to get booed off the stage this weekend.  And may still.  I wish I could be there for that.

Anyway, this appears to be legit.  EA.com to bottom of page.  Invester Relations.  Click press releases.  etc.

...and some of the people you can please none of the time - whiny, spoiled, self-important, snide, know-it-all little brats - save your mouthing off until you actually know something.

grow up, just a bit.

I was very surprised when I saw this headline on my twitter feed. It was a pleasant surprised. I know it means Starchild and the three colored endings will still be there, but hopefully this will mean more differentiation between the endings and more closure.

Holes or not, if the Mass Relays are still destroyed, then a bunch of people are going to die and everyone will be trapped. Mass Relay destruction was my biggest problem with the ending, and if that still happens with the 'closure' DLC, then I will still be upset.

I like how people are still reluctant to believe it when it's from the EA website.

Why is everyone jumping the gun?

Just wait.

We've already waited and for what? If this is true, we have to accept Bioware's lack of reading comprehension and, what is worst:
* StarChild is real (pure Deus Ex Machina and also it's incompatible with ME1 plot, poor writting)
* Shepard listening and accepting the Starchild's bullsh*t (OOC, poor writting again)
* Rainbow explosions (awful writting)
* Turians and Quarians starve to death no matter what you decide in ME1, ME2 and ME3 (huge plothole)
* Galactic Civilization is destroyed. You worked pretty hard in three games for save it and you fail no matter what.
* Citadel will destroy Earth soon (remember, it's 40km long. Dinosaurs were extinguished by a 15km long asteroid. Art!)
* Normandy scapes while Shepard is in the Citadel, leaving him/her behind (plothole or awful writting again)
* Joker somehow knows rainbow explosions can damage the Normandy (Another plothole, poor writting as well)
* Your LI is happily stuck with Joker and other crew members in an awful planet. I insist: (s)he is happy! (plothote, poor writting)
* The final mission is boring, poorly executed, you can't decide anything, linear as hell (poor writting again)
* Infinite ammo, Marauder Shields... so what, the button that switches off all reapers is protected by 4 units? HAH!
* And so on.. no epilogue or more cinematic scenes can fix this mess.

^ Clarify THIS!

If you expect it to change everything and fix all your problems, then yes.

So don't expect that.  It's a way of showing the fans that they care, and unless it shows a terrible lack of effort I'm prepared to accept it as that and leave the more radical changes I want to fanfiction.

This, totally this.  As cool as the IT sounded, I was pretty sure the endings were real.  While I would love something completely re-done, I never expected that was truly a feasible option.  So, I'm happy to wait patiently and see what they give us.  At the end of the day, I'm ok with at least at least some clarity on the endings since they confuse the heck out of me and some closure so I know what happens with my squadmates and the rest of the galaxy, as compared to the totally confusing ending I saw.

Hmmm, I guess this means I need to go ahead and finish that "good" ending play through now.  Image IPB

A crystal clear turd is still a turd. I cannot fathom how anyone lobbying for a better ending calls this a victory.

This is cool, come on it's free. Not exactly what we wanted but it's better than nothing at all.

And that's EXACTLY how Bioware wants you to think. No interactivity, just cutscenes.

Making that hack-job of an ending even longer doesn't make it less of a hack job.

Also it's easy to release some render sequences because it takes zero effort..

I'll be honest, the only big problem I had with the ending as it is was the lack of closure. At the end of the day if the writers wanted the whole Godchild thing then fair play, just they need to tie up the loose ends (of which admittedly there are many at present).

It's pretty useless at this point saying whether the DLC will have team's desired effect on fan opinions or not, we really don't know anything specific at all. Chances are a fair number on here will still be like "OMFGSTILLBADENDINGBOYCOTTEA!!!11"

I'm giving Bioware a chance, at this stage I think everyone else should too.

Speak for yourself, but "we" do not all want a new ending.  I like the endings, I just want some answers and some explanation of what happened afterwards.

Yes, agreed, and I understand what you mean and that this "way" of ending the game is...well it's fine with me too.

But I never saw (and continue to not see) any problem with keeping and clarifying the current endings, AND allowing for additional, alternative endings. These guys are talented enough to make that work I don't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Except of course for artistic integrity. Which I understand that too.

Doesn't mean that I'm still sad, a bit depressed even, that the game is ending...that it Has to end in this way.

Well I for one am happy to just see them doing something. That is indeed more than most companies would.

Won't hold my breath but won't continue being upset about it either until I see it myself.

I'm willing to wait and see what is included in the download before I pass judgement on if it's enough to finish the story, if it's just lip service.

The annoucement itself was very vague so I won't be jumping to any conclusions on what is contained regarding gameplay, continuations, etc etc...

But one thing which did catch my eye..

“We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka

Sounds a little like the Japanese Emperor praising his subjects before they throw themselves on thier swords.
