I never expected more and I also believe its the best solution to keep their own work and vision of the game legit. I like it very much, especially the personalized part. Its that what everybody expected for the game: individual closure. If they can adress the plotholes in agood way, we will see, but I'm very happy with the way they will go.

I'm closing the book here.
I'll take this repair, assess it. If sufficient I will be contented and leave the ranks of Bioware's consumers.
If bad, I will boycott Bioware actively rather than passively..

It better be good. Quite frankly, this is the end for my custom of Bioware. I don't honestly believe I can play a Bioware game now without remembering this tarnish on their reputation.

Regardless of what we may think of this press release, this is the course of action Bioware has decided upon, and we will simply need to grin and bear it until the DLC is released this summer. To judge the possiblities of the content of the DLC without any prior knowledge to what it will contain is pretty conceited.

I personally hope for the best, and have a good feeling for what may arrive. And while I may not get blue babies, or a house on Rannoch, or my summer vacation home that I won from Admiral Ahern, I will still hope for Bioware's unyielding commitment to the fans and the series.

After all, you don't think they could double botch the ending do you?

Can't say I'm surprised, but it certainly wasn't what I was hoping for either....unless clarity means "It was all a dream! Har har. Wait for the real ending in future DLC."

They announce this this close to PAX? I'm happy and all but it does seem like an attempt to take the wind from the sails of possible angry Mass Effect 3 fans during the PAX panel so they can avoid awkward question about the ending.

It's simple damage control. They know that the panelists would have had a hell of a bad time at PAX had they allowed them to go in front of a bunch of people still aggitated with the ending. This way they can avoid questions by saying "we don't want to give away too much, the DLC will be released this Summer", and leave it at that.

.....I had better see a scene with Jack and Shep...
This is a win the fact that we got them to do anything is a win. We have to wait and see what they do with it. They can fix it, it is possible depending on how they handle it.

Well wait and see maybe it turns out better than expected . Though i don't really think so.

The current ending is bad for a couple of reasons but with some work it can be made at least acceptable i hope ...

As someone who was extremely skeptical that Bioware would do more than "explain" the ending by changing the final text box into this :

Image IPB

I have to admit I am quite surprised. As expected, they're not changing the ending, but maybe they'll at least make your War Assets have some purpose now by showing them actually freaking DOING something, and maybe they'll at least try to come up with some technobabble explanation for their massive and ungainly plotholes.

Space Kid is here to stay, but we all knew that was going to happen anyway. Mac wasn't going to let go of his "high level" baby.

All in all, it's more than I expected. So kudos, Bioware.

/puts ME3 away until summer.

They'll be giving themselves an even harder time by now having to defend an announcement that seems to be saying that they're offering a bigger helping of what's upset people in the first place.

The fact that they have labeled it "Extended Cut" pretty much solidifies the fact that Indoctrination is FALSE, they are simply going to add a couple cutscenes that "clarify" what happened after you colored explosion. If IT was true it would be labeled something like "Truth" or "Awakening" but Extended Cut basically means that the endings we got were real and now we are just getting some extra scenes.

They must have always had a plan to extend and clarify the ending. That has to be apparent, but I'm sure they never meant to have to give it away free because they left it that bad off. No way they could have looked at the narrative in the finished product and been satisfied they had it wrapped up.

I hate how so many of you were the first offended by day one dlc or ending that are sold as dlc... And now you are begging like peasant for something like that.

This hurt me...

I don't get it. How do you explain the Normandy blowing up? If the Normandy blows up the whole fleet should blow up, and this gentlemen, makes no sense at all.
How can they add closure if the crew is stranded somewhere on Gilligan's Planet?

Unless they'll probably nuke those bits and change them with something epix.

Sceptical dutchman is sceptical.

From what they say, the Normandy will still crash on planet X, but likely they will add in a 15 second cutscene where Joker picks up your squadmates, followed by a random Normandy crewmember (cheaper VO) saying the Crucible is charging up and that they should get out of there.

Story will not change, just a few bits added here and there to 'clarify' the ending and coming up with reasons why X and Y happened.

Personally, the thing i am most curious about is if they give us closure about the "Shepard Breath" video.

But being stuck with the same lame ending is rather...lame.

We haven't won anything as the ending won't be changed. And unless they actually continue the game later where Shepard wakes up in the rubble (or some time there after) this ending will be as bad as ever. .. I smell pride.

Well Bioware/EA has won. THERE, I said it!

They picked the outcome that allows them to minimize the effort/cost on their part and maximize the return for them. By announcing vaguely an "extended" cut, which we have no idea what it contains, they have done the following:

Defuse any major conflict/kerfuffle at PAX, as they can tell everyone "just wait until the extended cut"

Splintered the retake movement between those content with the idea of the extended cut, those who will wait and see and those who think as stated in this thread that it is insufficient on face. CUE INFIGHTING!!

Given themselves months more time before the controversy can even expect to flame up again, if it even does after such a long length of time and people finally reach acceptance and move on.

By giving us the extended cut, AND making it free, they basically arm those pro-ending/anti-change with a 30mm GAU-8 gattling gun version of the "entitlement" argument to mow down any retakers who still hold the line in any media outlet.

Well played EA, well played...I just hope the ME writers manage to give us SOMETHING worth all the sturm und drang...but only time will tell...

The emo people get their clarified sad doom and gloom endings, but what about people who DON'T wanna be depressed at the end and have a happy ending option for Shepard?

These sacrifice endings don't match my main Shepard' personality and story, no matter what others tell me about the characters I play.

Thats how I feel!

I loved the stories of ME series and can cope with the sad fate that befell Mordin, Miranda and Thane in my playthrough.  Their sacrifices enabled Sheperd and co to fight on and save the characters we love and the galaxy.  The end, no matter if its A, B or C makes everything we experienced pointless.  The reapers may aswell have won.  :(

I was woried when i had the first dream sequence in ME3.  Fortunately there is only a couple and they are easily ignored with a renegade responce after.   But then i got to the end and saw the sad truth; this wonderful franchise has choked on some writer's retarded idea that Contact was a good movie.  The Star Child is so rediculous it had me completely detached from the game the moment i saw him.  <_<

I don't want clarity :pinched:, i want and ending worthy of this great legend that is Mass Effect
One where Joker gets to live happily with his Sexbot :P and Sheperd builds Tali <3 a new challet by the sea :D

This does not sound good at all. I can't see this ending well.

Anyhow, canceling SWTOR for the time being. At least three months by the sounds of it.

This had better be some super-duper-tier "clarification" they're talking about, or else my favorite series of all time is about to meet the firing squad...

I really don't see what's wrong with both clarifying the current endings AND adding additional, alternative endings.

I understand adding alternative endings might be a knock on BioWare's artistic integrity and might be seen as pandering. But if you disagree with any of that thought pattern, play the original endings (critics, academics, some fans (including me sometimes) etc). I think this is the best way and I really don't understand why BioWare and others have a problem with it.

I'm curious to see how do they explain the fact that your teamates somehow ended up on the Normandy after being supposedly dead and how(and why) did Joker manage to escape when they were on earth at the time...
