I will definately be checking out the addition when it comes out hoping it will provide the currently lacking replayability to the series, but honestly if they continue with their current goal of an AI God telling you how it is and then proceed to destroy the entire universe, then I guess it's goodbye Mass Effect series for good. Here's hoping the Dragon Age Team doesn't follow through and close out the DA trilogy with a Demon God telling you it was always destined that mages and templars would kill of each other and the only way you can stop them is by destroying the entire continent of Thedas.

On the otherhand, if it simply adds a few more vague cinematics, such as Wrex & Grunt dancing the Caramelldansen in a flashy disco scene (featuring red, blue & green lighting) somewhere on earth or Harbinger smoking cigars and sipping mojitos in deep space... Or some other stuff that makes equally little sense at all given the current lore in ME universe.
I... would actually consider paying for that.

Can't say that I'm terribly happy about that. Most were annoyed about the 3 choice, decisions-don't-matter outcome, and want an entirely new ending that fits with the ME universe. But I guess they need to save their 'artist vision' and pride in some way.
At least it's free.

Well IMHO this clarifies two things:
1. They were never planning some elaborate ending replacement scheme (i.e. indoctrination theory not canon)
2. They were genuinely surprised people were unhappy - so much so that instead of being open to the idea of alternate endings, they want to explain the current one(s) more. Which is fine but feels a bit more like they're saying we just didn't get it....
3. In respect to number 2 above, they may have planned the ending for a reason. ME4
I don't mind what they are doing here. Just provide more clarity, because I'm too impatient to wait 2 years to hear about future plans for ME4. /s
Ah, ME4, where everyone will be scattered around different parts of the universe and there will be no commerce or communications between them, all races will either be A) extinct (and we'll play as new races),
*Sarcastically"...Hooray...

All this extended cut is doing is to "clarify" and add "closure" to the ending. They've not changed it, therefore they haven't listened.
They must have looked at the forums and the internet as a whole, saw that people didn't like it and thought "oh, they must need an extra cutscene or two just to explain a couple of things". Judging by the Extended Cut's description, it appears that they didn't read our specific issues at all.
I doubt this cut will make things much better. Colour me majorly dissapointed, again.
However a clarification means that it could lead to post-ending DLC such as...the relays didn't destroy all life in every system with one, and shep lives, and the dark age isn't quite as dark as you think it is from what you've seen so far. if this is the case, post ending dlc is still possible and that in itself would be a good victory.

We haven't won anything as the ending won't be changed. And unless they actually continue the game later where Shepard wakes up in the rubble (or some time there after) this ending will be as bad as ever. .. I smell pride.
Sorry to tell you that but...
You've lost before you even start.
Agree, it's like fighting agains't reapers, no chance to start with.. oh wait .

This.
The goal of a completely new ending was completely unattainable to start with.

The only one I know of is Bethesda with Fallout 3. They patched the ending with Broken Steel I think, a paid for DLC that gives you extra gameplay post ending where the main character used to die. There were a lot of problems with it because it didn't make sense if you brought Fawkes along (who's a Supermutant, immuned to radiation) for example.
The new ending has the main character wake up after being hosed with rads which doesn't make sense either, but the Fallout universe gets a pass on these things and it leads to one of the best DLCs ever.
I would love to see a Broken Steel dlc for Mass Effect, but the various endings would make that hard.
Huuu... Broken Steel story was meh just like the infamous Anchorage dlc. The only thing good about it is you could finish the main storyline and still explore and do crap around the map. Plus the few guns and armor they put in as well as the new level cap. Other than that... you had to pay 800MP / 10$ to get the DLC.
i'd pay more than 10 bucks for a better more thought out ending for ME3 to be honest.

Yeah no it wasn't.
BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts Inc. announced Mass Effect™ 3:Extended Cut, a downloadable content pack that will expand upon the events at the end of the critically acclaimed Action RPG. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes
And this basically translates into "because our fans are too stupid and we too lazy to change anything we give you this explanation as to why the ending was good". So f*ck you BioWare and f*ck you EA.

The overwhelming opinion was the ending was just BAD. We didn't want more explanation of the bad ending. Ridiculous space magic is still ridiculous, even with more "clarity". *sigh*
But instead of fixing the real issue they are doing a cost cheap band-aid and avoiding the fans requests almost completely. It's official, Bioware has been assimilated fully, the heart and soul that made them great has been devoured by EA.

The problem is also if they'd pick up the story again in a future DLC/4th game (unlikely) - one has to ask oneself the question:
how many times can you kill the hero and resurrect him before it becomes incredibly lame?

But is there anything wrong with keeping the current endings and adding new ones?
To be fair to BW, no-one has said they won't ever do this! People are being unreasonable. Firstly they are going to clarify what we already have - in turn pushing back their DLC plans. Then they'll work on whatever DLC they had envisioned. The popup after completing the game suggests there may even be a case for post ending DLC, who knows.
Yes, very true. No one has said that BW won't ever do this. So, even if they don't do this now, okay, that's fair I understand.
I have a hard time believing, based on their defense of the current endings and of artistic integrity (which I totally understand why they'd do that. I don't fault them for defending that) that we will get additional, alternate endings regarding things like, well specifically, Shep's fate. But I guess we won't know for awhile yet...
