I read "clarification" and "artistic integrity". Nothing to see here. Move along.

Nothing has ended.

We haven't won anything as the ending won't be changed. And unless they actually continue the game later where Shepard wakes up in the rubble (or some time there after) this ending will be as bad as ever. .. I smell pride.

Sorry to tell you that but...
You've lost before you even start.

This.
The goal of a completely new ending was completely unattainable to start with.

Yeah no it wasn't.

Yes it is.

No. Look at FA3.

I'm sorry but is there no pleasing you little ****es? The retake movement was never about getting endings changed, it was to clarify what the **** just happened. Now you got a bunch of babies crying because they think bioware didn't listen.

Actually it was about the fact that shepard would not just accept the 3 choices without resistance, so yeah, it actually WAS about getting the endings changed. Clarification was also part of that.

Since we are left once again with speculation, this is what I think will happen:

Most likely

-A cutscene and possibly a small amount of dialogue is added to show how he squadmates got back on the Normandy, and why the normandy flew away.
-Added dialogue for the starchild to "clarify" its goals
-A small cutscene or probable explanation included for how Shepard might have gotten back on Earth, alive, after the "destroy" option

Possible

-Additional scenes and dialogue between surviving squadmates after the Normandy crashes
-Scenes or explanations of how the stranded races will "clean up the mess" after the battle
-Explanation of how life will continue after the mass relays are destroyed

Low to very low probability

-The mass relays are not destroyed
-Starchild is no longer the main antagonist
-Shep gets any option to "reject" the starchild's choices
-Shep, if alive, is united with squadmates and/or LI

And that, is a bad idea and will make many, many people wary of any other BioWare title, or simply disengage themselves from the fandom altogether.

Let's talk Sickboy for a moment.

"You have it, then you lose it, and you never get it back."

Bioware has lost "it". Their ending was garbage, and adding more garbage to the pile won't make it less crappy.

Bioware moved from "will pre-order" to "wait and see, maybe buy then." I'm not spending money on a studio that thinks a nut-kick is the perfect way to end a trilogy. They irrevocably damaged their reputation.

They don't see it, maybe can't see it, but this was a big step towards becoming Bullfrog or Westwood. (Two studios subsumed by EA and subsequently shut down and stripped for assets.) Maybe it won't get that bad for them, but I'm guessing it will.

RIP, company whose games I loved.

So if anyone wants to get their "Clarity and Closure" a few years down the line, they'll have to pay for this? Lovely.

Still don't care about making this square peg (Ending) fit into the round hole (Mass Effect). Still done with EA and Bioware

I am not sure how this is going to play out, all I know is if the ending isn't the beginning of a new adventure, and is the de facto level of where the story ends.  I rage quit EA/Bioware for good.  It was bad enough seeing a picture of Deus Ex on Casey Hudson's twitter page that seemed to be an easter egg for the inspiration behind the endings of Mass Effect 3.  So, I will say, why did they not say this was planned or not, these press ads, lead me to believe this was not planned.  If I don't get answers tomorrow, consider me permanently cutting off all EA/Bioware purchases in the future, which includes my son as well when he comes of age to play those types of games.  Needless to say, seeing a lot of poor taste in the presentation of an extended cutscene/epilogue of the ending.

Remember, folks. They didn't have to do any of this at all, and we're getting it FOR FREE. I consider myself a fence-sitter when it comes to the endings: I like the general structure, but the plot holes were too big for me to really enjoy what Bioware had in mind. They are going to attempt to fix the main gripe I had, for which I am thankful.

Also, consider the production time. It's a very vague "this summer." If they immediately jump on the ball first thing on Monday and start jamming this out (added writing, story boards, etc.), we're still looking at a pretty decent chunk of content. FOR FREE.

maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

Apart from that this is allegedly the artistic vision of Casey and Mac only, I'd wish they could let the team's vision be the ending, and not just what the two of them put together in a pitch-black room behind the bookcase.

Otherwise however, I am glad that an action has been taken, and that something good might come out of this. Free DLC - that's unusual, but a somewhat generous gift, even given the circumstances.

You may all do as you see fit, but I will not be moved by this conveniently placed carrot of information.  I find it very...unique...that this tidbit of information should be unveiled merely a day before PAX and a day after The Consumerists' EA award.  That thought aside, all the announcement boils down to is an official admission of providing free DLC later this summer.  This unplanned DLC will further clarify the ending by providing extra information through the usage of additional cut-scenes and cinematics.  At the same time, it will allow Bioware's artistic vision to remain intact.

Nothing has changed.  The line set between EA/Bioware and its consumers remains the same.  We have only been given more time for speculation.  I remain cautiously optimistic.

-Always Hope

Well this just finally proves the whole "we listen" junk to be nothing more than a PR tag line they use.

The overwhelming opinion was the ending was just BAD. We didn't want more explanation of the bad ending. Ridiculous space magic is still ridiculous, even with more "clarity". *sigh*

Your overwhelming opinion about how the ending is bad was just put to the ground by my only presence. Sorry to tell you. I'm always right. :whistle:

I am beyond your comprehension!

Yeah if this whole thing is going to be just minor tweaks on the ending not going to help atleast as far as I´m concerned. If it is enough for someone then I´m happy for you as I am happy for the ones who liked the endings, but for me clarifiying the ending we got is like getting (female dog)slapped and getting angry because of it. Because lets face it thats how the ending felt atleast for me.

Now imagine getting slapped and getting angry at it well not even angry more shocked. You ask the guy/girl why they did it and after waiting for like a hour of just "Hmm... oh... yeah... mmm" before getting an explanation on how exactly the slap was delivered taking into account the wind resistance of the open hand and all of that... when all you wanted to know was why did you get slapped to begin with...

Yeah I know I´m not making much sense but I have a little case of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I have it just mildly so I pretty much can get myself to be on subject but sometimes my examples are a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, yes it was.

The fact that you don't know that, even now, is actually humorous.

Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 disproves your assertion that it was unattainable. It's not an unprecedented move for a company to change the ending of a game.

Using artistic integrity as an excuse is bull**** when it comes to selling products, because in the end: art does not earn you big droves of cash (especially bad art), well designed products do.

Hold on a moment. We have Hudson coming out and saying the ending will feel more "personalized"?

With what more universal death at the hands of Shepard, who was meant to save the universe? ~Spiffy.

Explaining the Star Child better, and the idea that the whole purpose of the 3 game series shifted in the last 5 minutes, is not the answer. Hopefully as Bioware engages on working this, they will agree. The horrid outcry of the ending won't change much if we still have this radical shift in the narrative that neither fits in with the rest of the series, and worse, is soul sucking in terms of interest, empowerment and excitement. Instead of Shepard and his/her team saving the world, now all Shepard gets to do is help a Supreme being "starchild" think though a choice, which really, the supreme being can change at any time. There is nothing heroic of even interesting about that.

With the starchild, they've literally snatched an enormous victory in terms of aclaim and sales away, and instead have been left with an unfixable mess.

Scrap the omnipotent being, Bioware. Common, you've taken the first step in admitting a problem. Now take the next step and actually connect back to the narrative that was established for 3 totally awesome games. Make the Reapers the bad guys again, and give Shepard a way to stop them.

So they wont be adding all the cut content back to the final mission? Just extra scenes?
