Using artistic integrity as an excuse is bull**** when it comes to selling products, because in the end: art does not earn you big droves of cash (especially bad art), well designed products do.

Worse than that, its just really bad art.  Like, the ending flat out doesn't fit with the rest of the story.  The radically narrative shift feels totally tacked on.  Standing behind their right to produce really crappy art for the sake of losing massive amounts of revenue is just a bizarre position to take.

As developer of the game IT IS THEIR RIGHT to not change anything about the ending art or not. Deal with it once again.

As a customer of the game IT IS OUR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN.  Deal with it once again.

You can complain DOESN'T MEAN THEY WILL LISTEN. Most customer when not listen would go away so why don't you do the same? Deal with it. :police:

Pray they don´t alter the deal any further.

It is also our right to complain against false advertisement from people like Casey Hudson, if their customers abandon them for this BS, then the simple truth is that they will be seriously hurt as a company. Nobody wants that, but that's the cold truth. If you fool your customers and then troll them with BS-arguments like "artistic integrity" while speaking of humility like Muzyka does and then turn around in the same sentence and pat yourself on the back for a job well done by pointing to game critics (lol IGN) - then your fans have every right to tear you into shreds.

You want loyal fans? Don't treat them with disrespect.

Deal with it

I m pleased to see that something will be done BUT i ll hold my horses. This is BWs chance fix their mistake, but if they try to just do something half-hearted that is still going to suck: then they are officially dead to me.

Time will tell.......

So they really like starchild's logic and normandy crash :(

and OFFER EXPIRES APRIL 12, 2014.

so after two years new players have to pay for it?

I imagine it will be folded in to new versions of ME3 by default, meaning you won't need to download it, or will just become part of an initial patch when booting the game up, rather than a bespoke download. I don't believe that comment means that they will ever charge for it.

what totally got me was this sentence: "With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

i just dare to ask, with ending as it is, there is no Mass Effect universe after this... unless Mass Relays magically rebuild themself... oh wait.. spacemagic!

Well, I'll wait to pass judgement but really...

...does anyone else here feel like their standing around a copy of ME 3 with defibrillators in their hands, jolting away even though you know the heartbeat is never coming coming back?

Cutscenes won't change the actual ending. Sounds like they'll be no actual gameplay either.

Maybe it's time to just call it and bow down to the Star Child in submission.

It's funny how they say "some fans", tho 90% of us hates the ending. So if 90% of bioware fanbase left the bioware, they feel anything about it right? It's just "some" of us

What do you reckon the odds are that at the end of this "extended cut" it pops up a message saying - "How about you play multiplayer now and buy lots and lots of paid packs, all in the knowledge that they maintain artistic integrity. What do you want a story for any way?"

Hope I'm wrong though.

I'm going to mark this down in the "Win" category for now.

Here's the quote that wins me over:

Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series added,
“We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide
the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the
ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each
player.

(Emphasis mine)

This means they're going to show us what is actually happening at the end. If we have the 'Shepard Lives' ending, this *has* to mean they'll show what happens to us.

I'm going to wait until the release of the actual ending to pass any final judgements, but I will keep giving my opinion on things until the release of the "Extended Cut" of the game. I never expected them to actually *change* the game, but the ending is so vague there's every chance they can explain what they're showing so that it makes sense.

Personally, I'm hoping for the 'Everything after you get hit by Harbinger's beam is a dream sequence' but... y'know. We'll have to wait and see.

When they release the free DLC, I'll grab it and I'll watch the youtube videos before playing it. If it's worth my time, I'll give BioWare the props they deserve. If it still leaves me unhappy with the game and unsatisfied with my purchase, I'll say goodbye to BioWare.

At least we have something to look forward to in the summer! It's only a few months away.

NOW... BioWare... about removing the Multiplayer penalty from the SIngle Player game... get on it!!

I take back my previous post on reserving judgement after reading the extended cut blog information. Ending is staying the same, so who cares if it's free. It's still a bad ending, no amount of cut scenes and epilogue can change how I felt about that nonsense.

From the Bioware blog:

"Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.
"

I'm done Bioware. You've gone from having me in full on "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" on ME release date to a completely lost customer. If you can't see what a big mistake that "artistic vision" was, then I don't feel safe buying anything else of yours.

"Why are you releasing the Extended Cut DLC?
■Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3. The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story."

In other words: **** you, fans, we're right and you're all idiots that clearly need everything explained to you.

I'm holding judgement until the final product.

Obviously they aren't going to list every single change in the press release. Besides, I don't want to be spoiled on the new ending just like i didn't want to be spoiled on the old ending.

So good job EA, you kept me from trading in ME3 for a few months.

Thank you BioWare for doing something. If you can fix the major plotholes I can be happy with that. I can accept a bad ending but not one that doesn't make any sense.

"So there you have it. Are we proud of the game we made and the team that made it? Hell yes. Are we going to change the ending of the game? No. Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? Very much so and we are responding."

I'm not one to say "omg I'm going to boycott lol!" but Bioware have seriously tested my patience, and I think my patience has run out.

I've loved every minute of the Mass Effect franchise, right up until the ending and its ashame that Bioware have chosen to end their greatest creation this way. I'm just going to reflect on all the good times I've had and make up my own ending in my head.

Well, it's free, so I'll download it, but clarity on a bad ending: doubt it's gonna work. Polishing a turd rarely does. Still, hope I'm wrong.

To quote Jeff Dunham:

"You polish a turd, it's still a turd!"

I really don't understand this: Bioware are given a lifeline, from their own fans, which would make them happy, and they throw it on the ground. It reminds me a lot of that old religious story I was told as a kid.

Some guy was in the middle of the ocean, and while desperately trying to stay afloat, he prayed for God to save him from his death. Several minutes later, a boat arrived and offered to save him. He replied to the sailors "no, God will save me" and they sailed away, this continued two more times, with the man denying the sailors their rescue in the effort that God would save him.

The man drowned.

Nice story to be passed around by a religious family, really... Still, I get the distinct feeling that Bioware is this man in the middle of the ocean. We give him a lifeline, he denies it, and I fear this will also end with an equally sad ending.

Sorry Bioware, I am done with you! I have read over the link and at least I now know the endings wont be changed. It is your artistic right to do this, so fair enough.

It is also my right as a paying customer to tell you that I feel the endings were crap. Utter crap. Clarification or not you messed it up massively. You can spout artisitc integrity all you want, but they were poor - and if that is the extend of your story telling abilities your company - one that flaunts itself as storytellers - is broken.

So, with my trust broken, I will not buy any of your products again.

Good luck for the future - you may need it.
