To everyone saying this means the Indoctrination theory is dead, you could be wrong. When Bioware says they will expand upon the ending with 'new cutscenes' and the like, they could expand on the ending by explaining it all to be as a result of the Indoctrination theory -BY USING CUTSCENES.

I was initially very excited about this, and I still kind of am. But I am also kind of sad.

I originally played through with the Destroy ending because I believe the Indoctrination Theory had some merit. Everything now is pointing to the fact that the endings are definitely literal.

I can't go through with Destroy knowing that, knowing that I would survive, but I would sacrifice EDI and the Geth.

Shepard has to die, which sucks, the man deserves a freakin' break. :/

They are certainly going to have to deliver something great here. If we end up with some cutscenes with no dialogue and no further details about how all this jibber jabber works, I think BW is gonna have a hell of a time getting expectations up for their next property. I will wait to see what they provide--I mean, this sort of revision is still nearly unprecedented amongst major game releases, so the fact that it's even happening is pretty impressive--but it does sound this will do little to allay the growing skepticism and cautions about taking Bioware at their word and preordering their products.

Not what many of us wanted...but if they're releasing it in Summer and its FREE we can only assume that it will be worth at least one crap right?

This is a spit in the face for fans from Bioware. They very clearly have done nothing to listen to our complaints and would rather polish a piece of **** than try to actually fix their product. I cannot even fathom how they thought this was the correct route to go. Quite frankly i am insulted.

It's a compromise. I will wait for the release before praising or being disappointed. I wonder if it will become available tomorrow - offer ends 12 April

Really glad about the this.  Unlike most who are posting I have no problem with how the series ended.  Greater clarification on some events though is certainly needed so this announcement is great to hear.

Remember when George Lucas started messing around with the Star Wars saga? Because it was his artistic vision?

Do you blame them? Is it not enough that each page on the forum is filled with verbal bloodshed and utter disdain from half the community.

Oh, what do you think, whos fault is that?

BioArty did this to themselves. I can't believe they actually made things worse with that blog post. Anyone that trust Bioware after this is a mark.

Why does everything have to be such absolutes. It's like dealing with a forum full of Sith! It appears you have to either love something or hate it. I don't love or loathe the ending. But if it means I get some extra content then awesome.

I just don't understand the vitriol towards each other and BioWare (but especially each other). They are trying to offer a fix in a form that doesn't contradict the hard work their team has put in over the last 18 months. We should be grateful that we have something to at least look forward to. It could tie things up really well, who's to say? Why we can't just acknowledge each others opinions though is beyond me.

Questions:

Conclusion of Commander Shepard's journey? What "conclusion"? You mean the - so called - ending in the game that didn't make any sense, was filled with plotholes, destroyed the replayability of the whole series, denied all we ever knew of the characters and how they're thinking and and and (for more just read the threads in this forum ... you will find them, I promise)
You still call the endING of the game endingS just because there are different colours in the vids? Really? And btw: What about the different choices we made all over the three games? Where are the consequences in this - so called - "endingS"? Why am I doomed to see every time I experience ME3 (no matter what I do, no matter how I do it) the same thing: me dying or not dying, my crew escaping the battle and crash landing on a planet, dead squad members being suddendly alive again ... Why? I thought this is ME, not ... a linear shooter. I thought this is Commander Shepard's last fight against the reapers where everything I do matters in the end (as promised before release)?

Don't get me wrong. I am happy that you actually DO something concerning the ending, but ... Many of us wanted
more, deserve more, because we payed for it, we payed for ME, not ... a railroad shooter.
I am curious how you want to reach that goal of clarifying ... I am very curious. I hope that I don't have to watch again all crumbling down around Shepard. At least add some gameplay in your extended cut ... Hell, you wanted us to be invested in this series and in the end ... you deny it? Because ... Well, artistic integrity?

Okay. Until the release of this ... I am holding the line but ... I'm getting tired, BW, you know.

Because they have already said that they aren't going to change the endings. Unless the clarification is something amazingly written (at this point, doubtful) that removes all of the plot inconsistencies in the game then the Extended Cut will be garbage, just like the ending is garbage. It is not art. It's poop smeared on a wall and now they are trying to shine it up. Well you know the old adage about shining poop.

No new endings? Because of "artistic vision"?
You've got to be kidding me. C'mon, it's a joke. It's a slightly delayed april fools joke, right?
Ha..ha

They've said the same thing for about 2 week. Why are you even surprise?

Maybe I missed something, but... isn't it their first straight statement?

What can fans expect from the Extended Cut DLC?

  • For fans who want more closure in Mass Effect 3, the DLC will offer extended scenes that provide additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard’s journey.

Not what we asked for

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

  • <snipped>but no further ending DLC is planned.

Not what we asked for

What is BioWare adding to the ending with the Extended Cut DLC?

  • BioWare will expanding on the ending to Mass Effect 3 (1) by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences. The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3 (2).

1) This doesn't count as an expansion. Clarifying something is not synonymous with adding to something. Clarify is explaining, expand is adding. "Adding clarity" does not count as adding to the ending of the game.
2) Not what we asked for

When will the Extended Cut DLC be available?

  • Currently the Extended Cut DLC is planned for this summer, no specific date has been announced at this point.

Understandable, but I urge you to not rush this and mess it up again. If you guys feel you need more time to full, worthwhile content, then PLEASE take that time. If this DLC tanks, you will only be adding fuel to the fire.

Why are you releasing the Extended Cut DLC?

  • Though we remain committed and are proud <yeah, yeah, whatever. Snip>. The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story.

Not what we asked for. =/

So there you have it. Are we proud of the game we made and the team that made it? Hell yes. Are we going to change the ending of the game? No (1). Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? (2) Very much so and we are responding (3).

1) Not what we asked for
2) There's a difference between hearing and listening. You might be hearing what we have to say, but you are not listening. It is obvious that you have absolutely no dea of what we asked for.
3) Responding with what? Clarity? Don't make it seem as if this is what we were asking for the whole time. If you honestly believe that we have been demanding "explanations" and not real endings, then you have not been listening.

Furthermore, by saying "clarity," you are implying that we are too stupid to understand the ending otherwise; as if we now need it explained to us. We understand the ending, and where you were trying to go with it. We also understand that there are several plot holes in the story, and additional factors that contradict the Mass Effect lore. These issues need to be fixed, not further explained.

"Excuse me, neighbor, I backed in to your car this morning on the way to work. I won't pay for the damages, but I will write you this lovely explanation as to why I was careless while reversing. Hope it helps!"

Bioware, stop trolling us, beating around the bush, and getting defensive. Either fix the ending, or don't release anything at all. This clarity stuff would be a waste of your own time, and will not stop the complaining and the Retake movement.  Until you stop hearing what we are saying, and start listening, you're not going to get anythign productive accomplished.

This is the biggest bunch of BS I have read. All you did Bioware is prove that you don't care about your customers.

Well when you loose money on DLC, DA3 and whatever art thing you have planned for the future, you can only blame yourselves.

Uh no. Thats why I support them in not changing the ending. I actually don't want to play a game made by delusioned fan.

You won;t have to even if they do change the endings because you don't have to download them.

It's nice to see that Bioware is responding the the fans, but having said that:

The current endings all make a hypocrite out of my Shepard - none of them are options she would ever take. All I want is the option for her to say "No, I refuse. We'll take our chances fighting." I don't even want her to live, or to see the end of the battle (although that would be nice). I just want for her to be able to refuse. Then she can walk to the other side of the room, sit down and die in peace watching the galaxy fight for its freedom. That's all I want.

It sounds like we're not going to get that, and neither are we going to get a situation where the whole red/blue/green situation is nixed. I honestly don't know if I have it in me to ever put one of my Shepards through a characterisation-destroying moment like that again in the future - so I guess perhaps I'm done.

Love you, Bioware. See you when DA3 comes out.

I don't really want to judge before I see the actual content but I will say this much: this does not look good. I am having a hard time imagining how anyone could possibly, with any explanation, make the ending satisfying. It is deus ex machina, no matter how you look at it. I just the guys and gals at Bioware know something we/I do not.
