I'm not feeling very optimistic about this. The complaints about the endings have largely been lumped into 3 different groups - "the endings don't make sense because there are plot holes you can literally fly the Normandy through" "the endings don't make sense, thematically" and "the endings are completely devoid of the personalization and variety of the sort that the series & pre-release marketing indicated would be available"

This looks like it will be addressing only the first complaint. Which, okay, is big, for sure. But the other two are no less important and addressing only one of the three isn't going to do anything but fan the flames.

Sacrifice had to be made. Just like when you choose the ending in Mass Effect 3... I'm so funny B)

My reaction to the announcement today...

Eh? Clarity? Um, I'm a
smart guy. I can imagine what happens after Shepard screws over the
galaxy. I don't need an "official" explanation, sorry. Still want an
ending.

Mass Effect 3 is like... You've been seeing this girl
for a long time, and you're falling for her pretty hard.  You might
even be in love.  Then one day, she pulls you in for a kiss... and she
pepper sprays you in the eyes.  Adding insult to injury, she takes a
hammer to your private parts, steals your money, spits on you for good
measure, breaks up with you, and flees the country, never to be heard
from again.

I cannot imagine my beloved Tali'Zorah being forced to live without
Shepard. Even worse if she moves on and finds somebody else. Need...
memory wipe. Brain bleach.  Must forget ending.

My
post has bad spacing because I copied and pasted it from my post in
another topic on this forum.  Continue holding the line, comrades.

I'm very angry that my imaginary space marine isn't getting the imaginary ending I always imagined he'd get. I'm mounting my unicorn, taking my magic wand and going home! HRMPH!!

Alright, you want us to use this existing thread to discuss it?

You lied.
You shot my Shepard in the head.
You made her unable to fight and you made her die a cruel, painful, and weak death.

If I wanted a game that was art I'd play Journey. And I have and it's great. Tell a freaking good story. We told you the ending to your story was horrible. Don't know how additional DLC will explain infinite bullets, but you don't end an epic journey with a conversation with a crappy just-introduced starchild character. It's BAD WRITING. I'm sure most of your writers agree, but you wouldn't let them look at the ending before release.

I'd hope so... epilogue/cutscenes without any voices would be pointless.

Disappointing I suppose. I guess we should all be patient until we see what they come up with, but clearly this is all we are going to get. If these new cutscenes or whatever do not satisfy I highly doubt they will do anything else. Fairly shrewd move business wise though I suppose. Enough people will be satisfied with clarification that the backlash will lessen considerably.

So, you're saying that you stand by destroying the mass effect universe completely ? And now you're offering clarification on how exactly it came about ? And after all this you still have a franchise left to make money off ? I think you're delusional. Either way, I'm happy now that I know there's no new ending coming. Time to move on.

I guess I should try to be cautiously optimistic about it, but this "artistic vision" defense still disappoints me

Well, there ya go. Not what I wanted, by a long shot, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

It's not good enough. I don't care about Bioware's "artistic vision" when that vision is lousy writing and lazy game making. You can't add clarity to that ending because it's entirely too stupid. They're trying to clean the toilet with **** still in the bowl. They need to flush this turd and make an entirely new ending.

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?
No. BioWare strongly believes in the team's artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

Meanwhile in reality...

The funniest thing about this announcement is that, before ME3 came out, BioWare actually believed this to be a sufficient ending to the game.

That will never get old to me.

As for this announcement? I'll wait until PAX to see if they make any more details know. I still like MASS EFFECT, but the ME3 ending goes so far off the rails that it's just not something I can take seriously anymore.

I think "clarifying content" will be hilarious, and you can bet I'll download it for a laugh. It's just a shame that I can no longer trust BioWare's storytelling abilities anymore. If they seriously thought an anticlimactic piece of garbage like StarChild was a fitting end to their series, they've lost their storytelling mojo.

But hey, look at the bright side. The RGB endings are now infamous, and the sheer volume of memes that have risen from it are priceless. At least we've got those to go along with our cutscene clarification.
