I agree with what Paul Tassi of Forbes, who said this is a win for us, lets see what happen with this DLC and see what happens to it in the end. If it is still crappy as usual, then its over and Bioware is dead to me. If somehow (that's a BIG somehow) they can turn it into a decent ending, then all props to them...but for now, we as the Retake movement NEED to see what Bioware brings out. Rememeber, now Patience is a virtue, we forced EA/Bioware to make a move that they do not want in teh first place (free DLC), now lets see what they give us in the end.

Ya, to recap what he said,

The protesters need to be careful now. If they start saying things like
“I wanted the ending CHANGED not EXPANDED,” they’re going to get slappedwith the “entitled” and “whiny” labels they hate so much. And at this point, I would finally agree with that classification. This is a win forfans and a concession from Bioware, plain and simple.
Because it’s a compromise, and the Retake movement has to understand they were not going to get a page one rewrite. It just simply would not happen. Even if I was Bioware, and I knew I screwed up, I would not completely abandon the ending I did produce. I would try and alter it and expand on it in an effort to give more resolution and closure to the story, which I thought were the main points of what fans wanted. The fact that a protest movement made a company produce FREE DLC is unprecedented, and the fact that fans can’t seem to celebrate this moment as a win is confusing. If they keep protesting at this point, it looks like they can never be satisfied. Even I, covering this for a long time now, am unclear about what would truly satisfy everyone at this point. I don’t think anything can.

Money says this "extended cut" is nothing more than the slide-show epilogue we got in DA:O. In other words, it will be a complete cop-out, lazy attempt at satisfying the fans over their fail ending. There is almost no way they are giving this DLC away for free unless the DLC cost them next to nothing to produce (aka little to no voice acting).

*Shrugs*

so the plot holes, the breaking of established canon and general wtf of the endings remain? cant wait to see the scene where the normandy swoops down to rescue just your squad before boogying out of the solar system and leaving you for dead. Im done. i wont try and get a refund but thats cause i feel i played it through once so it wouldnt be right to get my money back. but its the last penny bioware will ever get from me.

they go on and on about artistic integrity. Im sorry that went out the window when they slapped a "buy moar dlc" sticker on the end of the credits.

Stick your 'clarifications' where you stuck your promises for an epic conclusion shaped by the decisions of all 3 games. You lied to fans in the lead up to release, you stonewalled us since release. Now your going to 'clarify' the plot holes and try to justify why the ending is 'artistic' and not some steaming pile of excrement.

This.

ME3 Extended = Add a few ending scenes. Be happy it's free

Witcher 2 Extended = Add weapons, entire new quest branches, fixes, Arena combat, extended final act (Wasn't even that bad of a final act, few complaints. Nothing compared to ME3. They still wanted to please fans though), new cutscenes, new difficulty. Free.

Bioware just release a Tool Set and let people MOD the game , so i can kick that Star Magic Colored God Child out of my game forever, lose that kid and let the game end with Shepard and Anderson conversation.

This is acceptable, if not ideal. Just so long as they clear up the gaping plot holes and give us some real closure - show the consequences of our actions beyond recolored explosions - and I'll let the issue go.

The ending for ME3 took an Elcor sized dump on my feelings for the franchise and I’d love to see a rewrite, but respect Biowares right to give the series the ending they want. That said, my fingers are firmly crossed.

I´m actually a bit overwhelmed right now this is a end of an era for me. I´ve been a fan since KoTOR and I think it´s time to say my goodbyes. All I can say is "So long, and thanks for all the fish"

If you guys would like help on how to modify the endings to answer many of the questions, read the information posted here: http://social.biowar...ndex/10641754/1

For a list of all the reasons why you should want to change the ending, read this article: http://kotaku.com/58...nvested-players (Also search the page for Patrik Forsgren, his comment explains in detail the problems with the choices).

The main thing I want to stress is that you shouldn't sacrifice Shepard just because this is the end of his story. Given that he survived Sovereign and the suicide mission, there should be at least one ending where he gets to settle down and relax with his love interest. Make it very difficult to achieve in game if you like, 8000 war assets maybe.

Lastly, artistic integrity is great if the original product has integrity. After reading that article I linked, and Patrik's comment below it, if you feel that the current endings still have integrity, then I think you should just stop right now and hope this all blows over.

That's right folks! The star-child will get some more dialogue, so you can hear even more lines of contradictions and plot-holes!

I don't hold my breath for anything good...and Bioware is digging their own grave with this...I hope the hole looks nice when you finish it, because you're not going to get any more cents from my pockets.

For all that we've picked apart the PR double speak on this forum, it surprises me that nobody's actually tried dissecting the words 'clarity and closure.'  Nobody can come out and say "our ending was bad" or even "out fans think the ending was bad."  Anyone who says that will end up crucified.  They're trying to fix the problem without actually admitting that there was a problem.

So, yeah, I think this olive branch of theirs might (might) be genuine.  Going to try and keep an open mind.

Pretty disappointed. It's nice that Bioware wants to remain loyal to their project leads, I suppose, but they screwed up with most of the fans. Blah blah - but you haters are the minority! Blah blah- but artistic integrity! You wouldn't ask JK Rowling to change Harry Potter, now, would you?

Well, video games are a different kind of media than book. You experience a book, but it's through the author's direct words and turns of phrase. You experience a video game through the collaborative effort of an entire development team, working their hardest to make the experience as authentic and directly involving to your senses- working to make the player feel like a direct participant. When you break that wall and invite the player in to experience a story, you can't claim total authorial dictatorship on the story. They're involved now- and the successful games are the ones that can balance that player expectation with artistic vision. Mass Effect 3 was able to do this until the end, and that's why people are upset. Because they feel like their experience was taken away from them, hijacked to be shunted into a little shoebox of the project lead's devising.

I'm not sure that Bioware understands this. I'm not sure they understand that we 'understand' the ending and don't like it regardless. They seem to think we don't get the ending, and if we did we'd like it a lot better.
