The blog Q&A is more about pride than artistic integrity.  It's about pride. Lots and lots of pride. Casey Hudson and Mac Walters are so ego-involved in the ending they created they simply will not acknowledge that they failed. They failed as writers, they failed as artists, they failed as stewards of the Mass Effect universe.

Remember, fans, we wield the ultimate weapon--money. They need us--we choose them. If you really want to be heard, loudly and clearly, then don't spend another thin dime on any EA or BioWare game. Don't spend a single dime on any project Casey Hudson and Mac Walters work on. Then you truly will have the final say.

Back to waiting for HL3 I guess... Too bad to see a great trilogy end so poorly.

Your grandchildren might live long enough to see it released :pinched:

on topic:
I'm taking a cautiously optimistic stance for now. Adding additional cinematics and epilogue scenes can do a lot if done right. If it adds significant length and and is different for each ending (and i mean real distinction here) it can help a lot with the endings being too similar for example. Additional epilogue scenes can bring closure to characters, and even show Shepard reunited with his/her LI if alive.

But what i'm most glad to see is :
"We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.". I just hope he really means it this time.

All I can say is that are doing more then I thought they would do. Of course, I actually thought that the ending wasn't really the ending. I thought Bioware had struck narrative gold with a diabolical ending to make the player think, but it turned out to just be a rushed ending absent of logic and consequence.

I was wrong on both counts.

Kudos to the fans that tried to bring change, and kudos to Bioware for trying to placate their fans, but I fear this will only end in tears for both sides.

Really, the only choice that folks have if they are unhappy with this "solution" is to stop buying their products. Business is simple....if the angry consumer affects the bottom line, then it gets attention.

Hey guys, I can give you that free DLC right here and right now, so I will save Bioware the trouble of making it so they can spend more times worshipping EA.

The relays still blow up, Shepard still dies, and the Normandy still crashes.

Damn I like it finished like this. But I really feel sory for IDT fans. It was a good theory. But just the theory, truth will always win and the real ending IS making sense accept it or not. It won't make sense only to blinded people or ones who did't pay enough attention during ME1, 2 and mainly ME3. No one believed us (minority) and now you see it is not awlays the best idea to stick with mass hysteria.

So i supposed your the type who likes to be put on rails and has the choices made for him? And how does it make sense my squadmates end up on the normandy even though they where with me on the beam run. Endings with mass murder at the end are great i guess with colored space magic

Bioware: We are releasing an Extended Cut DLC so that we can clarify the endings as well as keep our artistic integrity.

Fans: So you destroy your artistic integrity so you can maintain your artistic integrity? Sounds like this game I just finished playing.

They've already lied to us once. I'm not letting up until they cave in.

I'll see what it's like when I download it, but by the sounds of it the DLC isn't really gonna help.

There is too much wrong with the ending whether it be plotholes, ABC choices, the whole synthetics killing off all sentient organic's so other synthetics don't kill them etc for it to be fixed or explained with what there describing the DLC to be.

Look I'm all for artistic vision but that ending is terrible, who ever wrote it is not in touch with how the fans feel about this game as seen by the outcry the ending got, it does no justice to the Mass Effect franchise in my opinion.

I know Bioware is reading our feedback and trying there best to respond to it with this DLC but to me at this point it feels like you just adding more junk to a junk pile that the ending is at this point to me. maybe my opinion will change after I see what they've done with the DLC but I'm skeptical at this point.

I really don't want to dislike Bioware because they make awesome games but it's terrible seeing them do this to a franchise that you can see they lovingly created over a long period of time. Anyway my opinion doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but I wanted to vent a little lol.

It's free, so even though its not exactly what I wanted, I am satisfied. Some clarification could make the ending at least tolerable. I've had enough with the speculation and the space magic.

I agree with what Paul Tassi of Forbes, who said this is a win for us, lets see what happen with this DLC and see what happens to it in the end. If it is still crappy as usual, then its over and Bioware is dead to me. If somehow (that's a BIG somehow) they can turn it into a decent ending, then all props to them...but for now, we as the Retake movement NEED to see what Bioware brings out. Rememeber, now Patience is a virtue, we forced EA/Bioware to make a move that they do not want in teh first place (free DLC), now lets see what they give us in the end.

Ya, to recap what he said,

The protesters need to be careful now. If they start saying things like
“I wanted the ending CHANGED not EXPANDED,” they’re going to get slappedwith the “entitled” and “whiny” labels they hate so much. And at this point, I would finally agree with that classification. This is a win forfans and a concession from Bioware, plain and simple.
Because it’s a compromise, and the Retake movement has to understand they were not going to get a page one rewrite. It just simply would not happen. Even if I was Bioware, and I knew I screwed up, I would not completely abandon the ending I did produce. I would try and alter it and expand on it in an effort to give more resolution and closure to the story, which I thought were the main points of what fans wanted. The fact that a protest movement made a company produce FREE DLC is unprecedented, and the fact that fans can’t seem to celebrate this moment as a win is confusing. If they keep protesting at this point, it looks like they can never be satisfied. Even I, covering this for a long time now, am unclear about what would truly satisfy everyone at this point. I don’t think anything can.

That's a really great quote.

For all that we've picked apart the PR double speak on this forum, it surprises me that nobody's actually tried dissecting the words 'clarity and closure.'  Nobody can come out and say "our ending was bad" or even "out fans think the ending was bad."  Anyone who says that will end up crucified.  They're trying to fix the problem without actually admitting that there was a problem.

So, yeah, I think this olive branch of theirs might (might) be genuine.  Going to try and keep an open mind.

This is my biggest hope at the moment. Still not that big, but I'll take what I can get.

The ending DLC is probably just a 15 minute mpeg of Hudson and Walters snorting cocaine off the meeting room table.

I'm out.

From what I understand from the post, there will be cutscenes clarifying what the heck happened. But will it jus be cutscenes? Or actual gameplay. I want to think the latter especially considering it doesnt come out until "summer"

Pretty hard to feel anything but disappointment and anger over this. The fact that the endings aren't being changed and haven't been recognized as the mistakes that they are is even more bitter. I hate being bludgeoned over the head by their "Artistic Vision" and their awards.

This was one of the worst endings to one of the best RPG series I've ever played, and unfortunately no ending DLC will fix this.

Do they really have such a low opinion of us? We said "change the ending" meaning create new possibilities, options, make our actions over 3 games mean something. Not adding on additional options is an extreme misstep. If this announcement was to make things go better at PAX tomorrow, anyone hardcore enough to go to see them, would actually read the FAQ about this, knowing that they're not doing what they need to do.

The "Artistic Vision" argument is just stubbornness, disguised as an argument.

When did taking the ending from another game ( Deus Ex) become "artistic choices". It's pretty much taking Salvador Dali's persistence of memory and switching just switching up the background a bit and calling it your own.

Thank you for many awesome experiences BioWare! From Baldur's Gate to now. It's been one hell of a ride!

I'm just sorry you seem to have outgrown me. I will hold on to the straw you've given, even if it looks weak.

If it breaks, then I'll wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours! I'm just sad it will probably be without me :-(
