Actually, now that I think through all that's wrong with the ending, I just can't see any amount of clarification or explanation salvaging it. JUST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CHANGE THE WHOLE THING DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok At pax I can see them vaguely explaining their idea for the ending. What I want to hear them talk about is what they were thinking when a 10 minute photoshop image from google images would be an ok thing fo revealing a major character at the end o a 3 part series
This. I hate what they did with Tali almost as much as what they did with the ending. Almost.

BW can honestly not write anything that is not phrased condescendingly to the fans recently. Unbelievable. Hopefully what they put together is worth more than their words.
You realized they striped this content from the discs aswell?
This is pretty much by biggest fear about this. I saw the stuff that was cut from the disc that answers some of these questions. If all they do is tack that stuff back on, I am going to be very sad.

Yeah, they had to push back the map pack for MP by a month!

Yeah you really shouldn't be feeling bad about that. It's probably what they want anyway, sympathy.

Oh, please GOD let this be true. I'm sorry about the Geth and EDI, but I'm not killing off my Shepard.
That's all I want, at this point!
I am not at all ashamed to admit that I am so glad I am not the only one who feels this way.
I may feel like a sell-out later, but at the moment I am completely willing to set aside my qualms with starchild if the whole issue with the Normandy is resolved. That is all I want to make up for the days and weeks I have spent agonizing over how sad that made me.
My god... I think I may be able to start breathing again and living normally. And I don't care one bit if anyone finds that pathetic.

So they are going to clarify the ending, does that mean that the people that don't like the ending are just to stupid to understand what they were trying to do? Thanks EA, you've done a wonderful job of getting me excited for Halo 4.
thanks for your contribution to this thread. great insights there.
After all that's gone the last two weeks that's the best I have left in me.
Really? I'm super excited now. This is great news!
Your going to have to explain how this is great news when the best everyone else I've talked to about can say is I'll give it a chance.
Because the worst part in my opinion of the ending wasn't necessarily the direction the team decided to go in (Starchild, which is admittedly not my favourite thing in the world) but the arbitrary removal of important information to understand the ending. They tried to artificially create mystery and it didn't work, and now with the extended cut they will finally fill in the blanks. They also said they're doing this in response to fan feedback which means our questions will be answered, and the epilogues will bring the closure and denoument that is sorely lacking in the original.
I just don't see it, for me there is no amount of explanation that can help the current ending. The announcement they made today just left me even angrier then I was when I finished the game.

And I bet they probably didn't even have all the answers to the questions raised by their ending when they originally came up with it, which means they are going to have to invent all the answers in order to make this new DLC. They're going to have to shoehorn in explanations to try and make sense of their deliberately ambiguous ending.
I suppose I should reserve my judgement, but personally I would much rather a new ending. I don't see it as any more of a compromise of their ideals of artistic integrity than what they're already offering.

Surely they can keep their "artistic integrity" by retaining the existing endings as valid Shepherd responses, but also allowing alternative ending choices?
The availability of the alternative responses would be based on what actions Shepherd had carried out before (e.g. proving Geth and Quarian can get along)
Even a fourth response whereby Shepherd refuses to choose any option, and then the starchild decides for Shepherd anyway, would allow for yet another grim ending, but with Shepherd's integrity intact.
I think Bioware are definitely listening, but either not fully understanding the importance this has with their customer base, or they are in denial.
Very disappointed.
Positive things? Yes it would seem to satisfy some of the customer base, and at least they have done the decent thing by making it free (which will at least secure future revenues by retaining that portion of the fan base...)

Technically Shepard reunited with the squad is possible with current destroy ending. Dont fall for the PR speak.

Frankly, I've already lost faith in Bioware. They say time and again that they're listening, and then prove that they don't really care for what they hear, so they ignore it. This is going to have repercussions.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this at the moment.
On one hand I feel very cautiously optimistic that hopefully this will finally give some sense and some sort of satisfaction. And it's free.
Yet on the other, I feel that no matter what they extend- those endings/star kid will remain, and Shepard is still doomed to perish without being given that 4th option and not see her blue babies (if they're given in the epilogue) anyway.
I'll wait and see before I start to really build my hopes up; I don't want them crushed yet again.
Sums up my feelings pretty well.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they are releasing this for free. But no gameplay at all? I'm less concerned about a lack of shooting Harby in the face, and more concerned that this means no dialogue options.
Also, whilst I can understand they are defensive about their ending, they could tone it down a tad. A lot of the criticism of it is constructive and very reasonable, not just disagreeing with the direction. I just find myself skeptical that they can fix the multitude of inaccuracies and non sensical choices currently present whilst avoiding changing anything.
I couldn't help but wonder whether this announcement was made now because they are announcing a map pack or something tomorrow too, heh.
