at no charge "OFFER EXPIRES APRIL 12, 2014" Why? Is this a deadline for Mass Effect 4? Or the end of current generation consoles?

Probably this.

They believe in the artistic vision of the ending? Seriously? Are they listening to themselves? Isn't the ending just straight up copied?

They have to remove the crap choices in the game in order to make it a decent ending and replace it with something good. Why are they wasting their money and time on something futile like this?

BTW: Why would it take until somewhere in summer to add in some cutscenes?

I was really praying it would be IT...and the DLC would be more gameplay and you picking up from the rubble to really finish the game.

I don't see them redeeming this ending...I just don't see how its possible.

Ugh- this is a big disappointment. What fans were they listening to? I heard almost no one supporting the BS that is "artistic choice". Seriously, they need to understand that software is a product, and if a product is bad you FIX it, not explain why it was bad. This is a cop out for them to avoid admitting failure.

Ending sucks- it needs to be changed.

Extended ending not changing it means nothing to me. How can you explain the plot holes the lore the space magic.

1) we know the weapon uses dark energy to work (Mission conrad) that alone makes the green light impossible as dark energy rips things apart it never combines things.

2) the mass relays go bye bye so either they all die to supernovas or they die of starvation and power struggles. (So the closure will be in black background and white text The relays where drestroyed the galaxy stranded fought over what little they had with shepeards crew getting burned at the stakes for causing it)

3) joker fleeing the battle with your crew members on earth.

they are just a few that no matter what you do the ending will suck.

Another thing how the hell will people get to meet with there LI when joker took her to another system just before the relays are gone?

I would prefer them the fix the last mission first then the ending tbh as the last mission for so much advertisement and TAKE BACK EARTH was such a let down.

the geth mission and krogan was better. In earth it felt like follow the road till you reach the beam then BOOM.

In July.

For me, it would take space magic to care by July.  :wizard:

I am not at all ashamed to admit that I am so glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

I may feel like a sell-out later, but at the moment I am completely willing to set aside my qualms with starchild if the whole issue with the Normandy is resolved. That is all I want to make up for the days and weeks I have spent agonizing over how sad that made me.

My god... I think I may be able to start breathing again and living normally. And I don't care one bit if anyone finds that pathetic.

I'm right there with ya, I'm some cross between wary and insanely giddy.

All i wanted was an ending that see Shepard live, Reapers beat and him/her with their LI and on the other side i wanted one with them failing and the Reapers doing their job.

So Starchild remains, meaning we have to accept the technological singularity plot that isn't really important through 3 whole games, then thrown in our face in the last 5 minutes?

Well, it's still going to suck. But I do have faith that they will make it suck less.

I too hope it will suck less.

Gotta have hope with a horrible ending like that.

Interesting of course. But not sure how it will actually turn out since they're not getting rid of space magic.

I'm not sure how this can turn out better than mediocre, but still better than nothing.

Yeah. If this is all they're doing, I'm done with Bioware. I don't need them to -explain- the ending to me. I understand it just fine. It's just plain awful. It's still the most depressing, deus-ex machina bullsh*t ending. Mass Effect did not deserve this. We loyal fans didn't deserve this dagger in the back.

I'll of course wait and see what they do, but from that press release alone: this does not sound like what we wanted at all. We wanted endings based on our choices. That's not going to happen. We wanted the chance for a happy/satisfying ending. That's not going to happen. If these endings stand, I can't imagine what the "cinematic" epilogues will be. It'll just depress people even more. I don't want to see the fleet stranded, starving and brewing up a civil war amongst the remnants. I don't want to see my Shepard's love interest, Tali, knocking boots with Garrus or Joker on some convenient lush paradise planet. Ugh.

I was going to mock their quotes but in hindsight. I'll at least wait to see what this "clarity" is. Frankly, give us something, like a reunion with our LI or making sense of the Normandy and I'll... yeah, no really way to finish that sentence accurately.

In all honesty, this is all we can ask of BioWare at this point. Granted, not everyone is necessarily okay with an extended ending, but the devs can only do so much. The way I see it they could have completely ignored fans and stuck to the original ending, but they're showing that they still care about our input enough to acknowledge it.

Have a little faith that BioWare won't drop the ball on us again. They're taking a huge step towards making nice with the fans with this DLC, I think they've earned a reservation of judgement.

Bethesda and Broken Steel prove otherwise.  They could have manned up, admitted the enormity of their mistake, and corrected it with an Ending that flowed from the choices we made across three games.

That's a valid point, It certainly doesn't sound like BW will be releasing anything on that scale. But they acknowledged that closure was needed, and they seem ready to give us that closure. No we don't know exactly what "additional context and deeper insight" means, but they're still within their rights as developers to be vague about upcoming material.

I'm not saying that this will be the new Ark of the Covenant, solidifying that BioWare shall nevermore lead their people into Perdition. But is a reservation of judgement too much to ask?

If the ending we got is the only ending there is then adding in additional scenes will do nothing to change why I hate the endings.

If I were to accept the godchild ending as an acceptable ending then the ending that ready exists contains all the closure I need; Shephard dies and space magic ends the Reaper threat. Civilization is hardly going to end because the relays are not working. The brunt of travel was FTL travel within star systems anyways. And you we've been around for millions of years on just one planet. Plus this doesn't rule out the possibility of different methods of FTL travel.

In my opinion the lack of closure camp never had a great reason for disliking the end but they are the only ones getting the ending change they want.

The Godchild hating camp that I belong to are not receiving the ending changes we want even though we are the ones who take a bigger issue with the current ending.

Okay so this is the free version.

I guess to get the mass relays rebuilt (from what resources I have no idea) you have to sacrifice yourself and choose green because in ME4 everyone is going to be a cyborg/skin jobs. It will be a utopia, and we all know how well utopias work out.

But if you want to be selfish and survive and complete the mission you can be reunited with your crew and the galaxy is in a dark age.

I still think they blew it big time with the ending and that it needs complete revision, but... I'll review this when it comes out. They announced it today so they can say they did something tomorrow.

So this is the free version: Hey Bioware, you can feel free to announce a 5 hr extended play paid DLC ala Broken Steel any time, you know, and we won't be mad about it. Make the free one the Extended Cut, and make the paid one with no starkid the "Community Cut" or if you want call it the "Whiner's Cut" -- I'll still buy it and I can have my cheese then.

We know they're going to retcon everything for ME4 anyway. I still don't understand why they had to go and get all tricky and fancy at the end of a video game in the first place. They had a successful formula from games past. Stick to it.

I'm still debating on doing the trade in while the trade in price is still up before it drops to like $5. Summer could be early September.

I'm still holding the line, but I'm moving on. Nothing I can do until the DLC comes out anyway. By that time something else will be out, but I've got a long memory.

It starts to get funny when you consider they legitimately thought the ending(s) were good.

Now that I've thought about it for more than 5 minutes, this won't change anything. I don't care about my Shepard being reunited with my LI or squadmates, I WANT SOMETHING THAT MAKES SENSE. You cannot slap a band-aid over a car wreck and call it fixed. I won't be purchasing any dlcs or Bioware/EA products until they CHANGE it.

Agreed. :) For me it's really just about taking whatever positive I can from what is otherwise a fairly bleak set of circumstances. The Starchild is dumb, and there are a lot of narrative gaps and general illogicalities that come along with him, but the Normandy crash for me was like setting fire to the house of cards after it had already fallen down. Insult to injury. The very possibility of that ridiculous scene and its depressing implication being not only explained, but potentially negated by a "clarification" that provides closure and hope... I'm up for that.

*channel Jack*  So they had better not screw this up.

At the very least, it's free. I really was expecting to have to pay $9.99. So thank you for that.

Now we just play the waiting game ...
