I have never, EVER seen a company so actively antagonistic towards their core supporters.  From the day 1 DLC, to the lack of conversation choices throughout the game, to the lazy quest pickup, banning players for modding Single player, and of course- the terrible endings, because they knew we'd buy it anyway.  Through all this, through all the protests, the pleading, and the cries to Bioware for a fix, they have, at every turn, done the bare minimum to keep themselves looking ok in the public eye, while doing their best to keep those demanding a better ending unhappy by leaving the garbage heap that is the ME3 ending in tact.

There is literally NO reason to keep the ending the way it is other than because of the ego of Walters and Hudson, both of whom are probably very unsatisfied with the ending deep down, but are either too proud or too afriad to admit it.  Thanks Bioware, at least you're making it easy to walk away.

Yep, Bioware just tore up the protest group into two halves, and now the press will also side with them against the left of the retakers. The Extended Cut is merely an incredibely smart PR move.

Well I kinda honestly think they never really cared about having a core fanbase. Because any game they make can draw a different crowd to support them. It's not like losing one group of fans = not having any more fans. They can always get more fans. I don't think their core fans ever really mattered much to them.

Yep.  It seems to me like Bioware is more focused on out-manuvering us from a PR standpoint than they are with just fixing their mistake.  Sad to see so many drones on here fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

Free for 2 years, you mean. Then they start charging for it. (Note the offer for "free dlc" expires in April of 2014.)

It was always going to be torn in half, what did you expect? Suddenly they'll make an ending that will satisfy everyone out there? Pfft...

Bioware worked really hard on the Mass Effect series, including ME3, which most people who hate the ending even agree is a good game besides. And after all that work, the majority of feedback is hatred for the ending and in most cases hatred for them by extension. *Then* they respond with *free* DLC that alters the ending, probably as much as they can, as a compromise. No, Bioware does not hate their fans. It's quite the opposite.

The DLC won't alter the ending at all.  "As much as they can" is that a joke?  They are the developers of the franchise, and can change it as much as they want.

Hell, there are fan made youtube videos that completely remove that starchild (which Bioware could do with literally one line of code) and just skip from Shepard and Anderson talking, straight to the destroy ending.  It's abrupt, but it's also exponentially better than the ending we got, and will likely be better than the 'explanation' we're going to get.  They could do that with one line of code, but they'd rather keep him, for absolutely no reason except that they can't admit when they screwed up.

Bioware seems to love their fans, and after spending a month on these forums I have no idea why. If these were my fans I'd start over, maybe start making fighting games.

So basically in the fan videos we would only get ONE ending?

I'd rather have the Catalyst

Give BioWare a chance. We don't even know what they're planning, and they might not have even finished planning it yet. Holding the Line is more about getting BioWare to live up to their own standards than punishing them. Let them do their thing, and then we can hold them to account when the end product is released.

While hiring back voice actors, animating a brand new ending, working it in to completely replace the old one, only to have fans go "This isn't what I wanted you ***holes" a second time?  That just wasn't ever a realistic expectation.

Or they didn't screw up.  Why exactly is the Catalyst so bad?  It's an expositional plot device that you knew you were looking for anyway, and all it really does is explain the Reapers' motivations (which was hinted at through all three games anyway) and tell you how to use the weapon that *your* side built.  He doesn't *give* you choices, he *explains* which choices galactic civilization pretty much gave themselves with how well the built the Crucible.  There's nothing wrong with the developement team standing by their ending.
