Adding my voice to this.

After a knee jerk reaction and lashing out blindly, I realized that by and large people's reaction are very much like the reactions of Star Wars fans. They know they're mad and they hate what they got. They just can't put their finger on exactly why. So I thought it through and came up with this. at least for me.

I don't absolutely hate the ending. (Going to do my best to describe this without spoilers.) Yes, there were some issues with the editing that could have possibly explained some ... plotholes. And for what it's worth, I wasn't overly impressed with the ... explanation of the conflict. However, the epic scale had to be there, and I think it could have been done worse.

What I was upset about was not seeing the non-epic decisions addressed. To avoid spoilers, I'll break the finale down to three parts. The lead up, the pay off, and the epilogue. The pay off should have been sandwiched between a much larger lead up, and a better explained epilogue.

To me, much more important would be the lead up. That is where they can take all your decisions from all three games and had another grand ME2 ending. Did you save this guy earlier? You get to see him in a cutscene or hear him over the radio chatter making a difference. Did you make this decision about doing that action? You hear a whole regiment get wiped and now you have to either reassign another crew to do a job or do it yourself. Everything should come together to actually get you to the pay off.

My fear is, from what I'm hearing, they may just be fixing the epilogue and not fixing the lead up. I think it's possible for them to fix the lead up and still have their ending, and I sincerely hope they do that.

I completed me2 at least 20 times, and ME is my favorite video game ever. However, I have only completed ME3 once. A shame really. If all they are going to do is add some more pictures, then they can keep their artistic vision. They really ruined a great story, as I have no interest in playing through my 9 ME2 imports that I had prepared.

It really sounds like this supposed DLC, resolves none of the issues that fan-base has with your "artistic vision".
Please Bioware, just one of you, give us a strong and clear response on why this pick a colour ending is worth sticking up for! I want to know why it's so good in your eyes, because it really has killed the ME franchise for me.

Bull@#%!

I'll repost in an attempt to pierce your biofan reality distortion field...

Several BioWare employees, including the Creative Director (i.e. the guy in charge) stated that the ending was "X" , and in doing so they were making a representation of their product... one which we base our purchasing decisions on.

Before we bought the game (and only a few months prior to release in fact), Casey had things like this to say:

At this point we’re taking into account so many decisions that you’ve made as a player and reflecting a lot of that stuff. It’s not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C.

Which of course is completely untrue.  We did in fact get PRECISELY A, B, and C.

It’s more like there are some really obvious things that are different and then lots and lots of smaller things, lots of things about who lives and who dies, civilizations that rose and fell, all the way down to individual characters. That becomes the state of where you left your galaxy. The endings have a lot more sophistication and variety in them.

Sophistication and Variety?  They're virtually identical save for color pallette.

So again - they misrepresented their product - and we ordered it based on that misrepresentation.

To be clear - these aren't blue sky moments, where he's talking possibilities.  This is from OXM on Jan 11 that he's saying these things - only a few months before the retail release, and at a point where they were certainly content complete on things like this.

http://www.oxm.co.uk...sophisticated//

This is only the tip of the iceberg.  There are many other examples of promises they made in the gaming press and in their very own forums that turned out to be completely false.

Bioware.

I want to say thanks for many many hours of wonderful game play I've had playing your games. You are all obviously very skilled and amazing story tellers. I firmly believe in the indoctrination theory and that you are sitting and reading the angry posts with the biggest troll face known from Earth to dark space! I know you will deliver something awesome. I trust you.

You sure? Is there somewhere the "fanbase" has posted its collective opinion as to what the issues actually are? The only faction whose gripe I really have a handle on is the little blue babies crowd. I don't agree with them, but I understand what they want.

It's going to take something truly special to re-kindle the fire I used to have for the series. I know you can do it Bioware, make me proud.

If this does not fix the ending, I will never purchase another EA product. It is... tragic.

Well, its been great Bioware. You guys(and gals) are great and I will always remember the great games you bestowed upon us over the years.(discounting the last 5 minutes of ME3 of course)

But now that EA has given you its anti-midas touch......R.I.P

I'm really hoping this DLC will show my war assets actually making a difference in the battle. Not just the same damn cutscenes show me different cutscenes based on who I brought to the battle!! Show me Wrex, Grunt, Jack, Kirrahe, Aria, Zaeed, and Samara totally kicking Reaper ass! Show me a few Geth Colossus and Primes totally owning a Harvester and have a Geth helping a Quarian repairing a turret. Show me a Krogan saving a Salarian from Marauder at the last second. Have a Rachni Brood Warrior pop out of the ground and rip a Brute in half! Show a Turian, Human, and Batarian all back to back frighting off husks. Show some Drell assassin's sniping in the back ground along with some Elcor living tanks!! Show the Merc groups fighting!! Have the Vorcha swarm a group with a few Krogan and trained Varen with them! Show me Eclipse fighting with Mechs giving fire support. Show me the Blue Suns lighting reapers troops on fire with Pyro troopers! Show me the military force I made mattered and isn't just getting slaughtered at every turn! I'm fine with casualties but show more kick ass before the reaper destroyer starts owning everything.

Everything else with the ending will be fine as long as they: fill the plot holes, clearly explain everyone isn't stuck on Earth and intergalactic travel and cooperation is still possible, and completely take out the Normandy stranded scene. It makes no freaking sense and is the main burning reason I loathe the current ending. Everything else is fine. But Please take out the god awful Normandy stranded scene.

That would have delivered a very touching theme - 'unity, despite differences'... Quite beautiful actually.

On a side note I would like to share this link with you: . The guy talks about what they could and should have done with the ME3 ending and it's actually astonishing that the ME team didn't think of this.

Great video, love how this guys mind works.

Had we only known the truth.  They hyped it up, they gave us hope, it was all set to be glorious and one of the best finales to a game series.  And then...WTF!! They freakin' lied through their teeth and now they say they stand by their creation (ending).   And they have the nerve to prompt us with that stupid note at the end of the game to go buy some DLC.  Why the hell would I buy DLC for this game in the future if none of my decisions matter in the outcome whatsoever...stupid and pointless.

P.S. This was suppossed to be in response to zoompooky's recent post.  clicked wrong one by accident.

I get that this discussion has been going on for awhile, but I haven't actually gotten to play ME3 until recently (just finished day before yesterday, to be honest), and as a great supporter and fan of the ME universe I had avoided any and all new, talk and mention of the game as if it were the plague, I didn't want any spoilers to detract from my fun.
When I got to the end I felt...unrealised...I don't mind Shep dying, but the whole lot was...blah. Don't get me wrong, the game leading up to it was great, just the very last was, well, silly. So I went online to find out more, and saw the ending chart, and along my googling loads of other complaints about the ending.
Personallly, I don't believe this move will actually solve my problems with the ending, but knowing how the crew got from the uphill battle on Earth's surface back to the Normandy, when she was actually busy with her own battle in space, and how all these people now stranded on Earth will survive would aleviate my issues.
It seems to me that there is no victory in the end, we were fighting to save galactic civilization, which seems to have ended either way, and besides the huge number of people the reapers killed, a much greater number is bound to die yet.

Just dropping my 2p, sorry for the long response.

I am glad that bioware is going to provide closure for the Mass Effect 3 game, I am just hoping that sheapered is reunited with his friends and also that the whole galaxy will fuction even without the Mass Releys. I was very worried about that part because all of the fleets will have no way to get home and recover.

Hello. Really I don't understand the complaints about the end of Mass Effect 3 series. We are talking about the video games world, today it is very difficult to find a game really good, for the unique reason that what companies want is to sell and not to obtain a final highest quality product. Focus on doing market research and trends, to develop a game that sells very well. But sell very well does not mean quality in a game, so you can see on every videogames stores. Sincerely to find a single good game I must rule out 99 bad or mediocre, and I am short in proportion. But someone will say: "A game not sells if it is not good" this is not true because as you can see games really bad are sold in masse for simple reasons as the ignorance, the target audience which are aimed, undeserved fame, conformism, and above all, the perception capacity of the final game user/buyer. About this, today is a shame that multitude of players only appreciate things from a grid perspective, without being able to give something of significance to what they see.

I've been playing video games many years, more than 20 years and I say this frankly, until I played Mass Effect 1,2 and 3, considered some games such as the best never made, as Elder of Scrolls for example. Now I consider Mass Effect as the best game in the whole video games history. It is a very tough statement but after all I have no doubt about it.

But talking about the hot issue, really do not understand the complaints about the end of Mass Effect 3. Make a game with this quality, innovative as any other, perfect role-playing and action blend, with an unique history... This type of game costs a lot to make them work. The surprising thing is that Bioware could well have made a game much more mediocre or saving efforts in the environment complexity and have also sold the same game copies at the same price... Resuming, they would obtained the same benefits but with much less dedication. As I said before I think we stay in "superficial" and not go to think that this game has been a challenge and a great effort for developers. The final product in my opinion has resulted in the best game of all time. A single game had never before been able to excite you, get in tension, test your morality, make you cry (if you cry), make you feel the same things as real life, never ever a game had achieved this. I think that we are all agree at this point.

I don't know if anyone has noticed but today, time and effort required for developing a video game is infinitely large in the development of a story that will make "real as life itself", consistent, seamless, intelligent, exciting, open, intriguing, exciting, accompanied by all the necessary technology to carry it out. This work that is not always got successfully, is much greater than a mere scenarios construction, a relatively simple story, a good combat engine and little more. First thing is very difficult, second all games or almost all includes it.

Do here once again urge the gamers community: we are judging the games with all the data over the table? We only value surface without deepening in what is really important? Are we condemning us ourselves to play garbage games or as much "mediocre" that seems to be what "we like"? We are satisfied with politically correct titles and criticize others which have innovative aspects which may be open to criticism by users? Do you think that Biware/EA did not know that this ending was going to be criticized? Do you really think after carrying out a huge and monstrous job developing ME1, 2 and 3, would save efforts in the final 0.1% (the end), after the other 99.9% hard job?

Not guys, the end of Mass Effect 3 has become as they wanted to do, and if the end is analyzed by someone intelligent, will see as it fits perfectly and I am not sure but I think that, maybe opens a large door for a Mass effect 4 or similar. In fact the ending "secrecy" is the strong point of this series, combining very well the intrigue with a very clear ending for those who know to see it with a bit of depth.

Game companies judge their users and make video games for “customer taste". Do you think that Bioware did not know that the end was going to generate some criticisms? And even knowing that, developed the end as you have seen. This is innovation, advance. But if the users community don't know distinguish between excellence and mediocrity, guys, what we will get is.. mediocre games, you want that? I do not particularly. The video games evolution and technology in general depends on risky, innovative projects but keeping a coherent human line, and all this tends toward virtual reality, something which we are still far from in short term. And Bioware with Mass Effect series has shown exactly that, it has supposed a small step for video games and a big step towards the virtual reality evolution.

If I were Bioware/EA would have ignored requests of the extended cut, and would let end game stay as this is now. It seems in my opinion a lack of respect for the writers. But anyway they will do an extended cut. Or I'm very much wrong or the extended cut will be something that will stay in the same line as the original ending. Too many questions, they made the end in this way in purpose and I believe and hope in a next incoming Mass Effect.

In my opinion the Mass Effect 3 ending its unique in sensibility, as well as result of a fairly successful futuristic vision. Maybe im wrong but after this magnificent series, you think they were going to let an ending so opened and full of unknowns? I hope a next incoming Mass Effect. If I am wrong, it would be fair criticism launched against this "uncertain" final …. or not…. Its up to you..

Finally picked up ME3 from Amazon's sale, was holding out until the face import bug was fixed and then I started playing Red Dead Redemption so I haven't yet got to experience the ending. But I just know with the response, unbelievable response actually, that I will be disappointed as the rest. Which is unfortunate because I think ME and ME2 are in the top ten games of all time.

I have never seen anything like it (the response, it's actually quite amazing really). Never have I seen such a reaction. And to me, even not seeing the ending yet, I feel like BioWare needs to just swallow their pride, artistic vision, whatever you want to call it and make what the fans want.

Steve Jobs might have thought it's a company's job to "tell the customers what they want". But obviously from this response, his theory is dead wrong. I feel like ME and ME2 was giving customers what they want and ME3 has become telling customers what they want...

What we got was mediocrity, i loved ME1 and ME2 for me and many others ME3 is a lesser brother in a fine family line i will give you ME3’s ending is unique but in its failure, why a developer would suddenly switch from a winning formula to such old and over used dukebox ending is beyond belief.

More time and money was spent on trailers than the ending the control and synthesis ending are ridiculous options that break all consistency with the cannon, so we are left with the destroy option again this gives no options shepard living or dying is not the point, completing his mission is.

ME is built on UR3 engine it is ok but showing its age slightly now, for me bioware wanted to create a cash cow and it feels they tested lots of new things like a half assed MP inclusion there is a reason why games are split into MP/SP because it works i like both coffee and tea but i would rather not have them in the same cup, add in the IOS App and micro transactions to use the third and final title in a trilogy as a test bed for future products is an affront to loyal fans, so they drop minigames, vehicle sections, dialogue options, and exploring so we can have an IOS...I Don’t own a iphone nor did i play ME because it was MP and nor did I want it..All i and others wanted was closure and a fiting ending to a great trilogy ...well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.

The bad PR and the Negative stance Bioware has taken with many of its fans , with flavour their products for years to come, and Casey should always be aware your reap what you sow .
