Did I want my Shepard to fly off into the sunset with Joker at the helm, Kaidan at her side and alot of dead reapers in the wake of Normandy? Yes I did.
I don't care about closure or deep meanings. I want to sit back from a game feeling happy and satisfied that my time and money has been so well spent do much so that I might go back to ME1 and work through the series.
But why should I bother?

"Malefitz" is roughly translated into criminal misconduct or felony.
So maybe Bioware knew that the ending was flawed and that it went against everything that Mass Effect as a series stands for
After all Mass Effect 3 was one of the most emotionally bonding experiences I've ever had the pleasure to play.
I'm sure the Extended Cut DLC will bring the much needed clarfication and thereby rectify the "Malefitz".
In
the end it would be really odd if the people at Bioware were so crazy
and careless to put out such an incomplete ending and leave it at that.
On the one hand you have this terrific game and on the other there is this ending which seems completely out of place.
Even
though it was done with a different writing team/person it doesn't live
up to the quality the whole game set up (only talking about the
story/dialogue here).
So the thought that "Das Malefitz" was put
there on purpose helps me cope with the ending and holds my hopes up for
the "Extended Cut DLC".(starring this guy in an extended role:
posted this on another thread already but maybe its more appropriate here:bandit:

As for the press release regarding the extended cut DLC, I find BioWare's (or should I say EA's) statement a bit defensive; which tells me, they know they screwed up. I have to agree with a previous poster who pointed out that it takes strength to admit when you where wrong and I think it's high time the folks at BioWare grew a pair and admitted they made a mistake in neglecting the ending to such a great series. I will be fine if BioWare does not give me a whole new ending to play and I would like to point out that I, in no way, shape, or form, expected a butterfly's and sunshine ending; however, I, at the very least, would expect you, BioWare, to stay true to the story and the characters you yourselves worked so hard to create?

I'm honestly shocked that you expected a "happy" ending. I knew it would be a dark conclusion and personally love the endings they just need a bit more added IMO. I'm sorry to hear that you can't gring yourself to finish a great game.wildmare wrote...
Sorry bioware, but since I found out about the ending and this press release i have lost all will power to complete this game. I totally adore the Mass Effect series, but why would waste my time on an ending that I know will leave me dissapointed? Even completing the romance with Kaidan isn't pulling me in.

I'm not shocked. I wanted one too. Or rather, at least the chance of one. Let those who crave "dark conclusions" have one too. Choices matter? It doesn't seem much like that in the end.
Personally, I play games to get away from depressing crap. Bittersweet is as low as I want in a game. Relenteless depressing (as I find the ME3 endings to be) is not keeping me.

you did expect a bad ending after star wars 6? I did expect a good one.
the player (especially in/after me3) should have several ending options. renegade, take over the reapers and control them for bad purpose or kill them (and kill everything else); paragon, take over the reapers and make them "good" or deactivate them like the geth, and several (not so cool) normal endings. that's what I want. I played my me2 char so I had paragon from the start of the game. I want him survive but I don't have the chance to keep him alive (or atleast seeing him alive in a cutscene after the ending with his GF or not if you don't have one).
You wanted him dead so you should get an ending where you can see everybody happy/ not happy and a destroyed earth or a memorial for shepard.
sorry for my bad english :S

My feelings exactly an i will not waste another second of my life playing mass effect in any way shape or form, will i buy another bioware game? not a chance in hell not after this fiasco and im actually glad my collectors edition wasnt available from GAME as it saved me a little money an rage, i can honestly say i feel violated and i wish i could get all my time and money back.... an begs the question why am i even writing this? well i just want to voice my opinion on a series i loved and anyone at all defending that abortion of an ending is just kidding themselves.

1) The lack of choice and consequences. The whole mass effect experience is meant to make you choose among hard alternatives. Sometimes you stare at that dialogue circle for minutes, thinking what the consequences will be. If in the end nothing matters... why the hell should you care in the first place?
2) Plot holes. Tons of them. The whole ending just looks like an hallucination, and does not link with any of the previous facts of the game (not even the third one, not to mention the previous ones). I have only three theories: either the entire team of storywriters was drunk at the time of writing the ending (seriously doubt it), or they made some unknown people (who have never heard of ME) write it, or... Indoctrination theory or some of its variation. Maybe they were planning an ending DLC from the start...as bad as it looks, at this point I seriously hope this is the case.
So, well... as I loved the ME experience and I think that it is probably one of the best stories and best gaming experiences I have ever had, I would be at least surprised if they didn't fix the mess they've done.

I too expected a pyrrhic victory/bittersweet ending and thus I wasn't overly dissapointed, It could have been executed better but I didn't lose much sleep over it. I just thought the whole tone of the third game was a big clue that we weren't getting a sunshine and rainbows ending.
Mass Effect isn't Star Wars, the Mass Effect universe is a lot darker, friends die, people drift apart, you have to make terrible sacrifices, I didn't think I'd be flying off into the sunset with my crew. However I agree that there should have been a greater variety of endings.

If you work hard, play a lot, you don't simply deserve, you expect things to pay off. To get a feeling of fulfillment. Just because there are seemingly unbeatable incomprehensible giant terminators doesn't mean we can't have beach party in the name of Mordin. It's a game.
Those who are emo and prefer to feel futile in a game can get their dark ending by throwing themselves out of the airlock to forgo being melted.
There is more though. I would accept the ending as it is if Reaper were fought "conventionally". By sacrificing more than just worlds, races. It would take valor and spirit to ensure a future.
But when we get space magic with rainbows and can't survive, that is just lazy. It just seemed like the very first thing that came to mind to the writer. Sure they could have established right away that Shepard sacrifices himself, loads of people die, and normandy is stranded, etc. But this was poorly executed.

These two reasons are pretty much my reasons for disliking the endings, and why I'm disappointed and frankly, lost interest in the series as a whole.
I really hope BioWare spends the next however long it takes before they release the EC to re-examine what the Mass Effect series was about, and why the current ending to ME3 completely goes against what they'd built before that.

Please tell that to Bioware cuz for some rediciolus reason they are "proud of the work they have done on the ending".Actually don't bother. They won't listen anyway.
