Not sure which platform you're playing on, but if it's Xbox you can go onto their gamer profile and permanently mute them.
If you're already in the game, you take a minute to press the Middle Button > Friends > press Right twice to Players (# Online) > select the offender's name > Mute all the way at the bottom.
It's tedious.. but it makes the game significantly better.

just have to find which person is the annoying one. Bioware needs to get with the rest of the multiplayer games and add the feature when you pause the game. Tired of hearing people talking on their phone or just general ****ing

On Xbox360, everything's fine, you can mute people from the friend list or whatever, but for us PS3 and PC users, we are still -forced- to listen to (examples may vary) :
- That kid's mom telling her son to go to sleep and start argue for the entire game
- That guy coughing up his lungs/shoving his mic/bluetooth down his throat
- That boy's phone call with his bro
- Those two, three, ten, twenty-five people sitting in the same room playing Mass Effect on one TV set, eating, drinking, laughing, shouting etc.
- That preadolescent who comments on EVERY SINGLE MOVE he makes in the game
- That dog in the backyard
- Traffic sounds coming from that guy's OPEN window in NYC
- That music
- Our own voice/game sounds coming from that guy's speakers relayed into his microphone because he is either deaf and has his volume up to maximum or he is blind and sits 3" away from the screen.
I mean it's fine, you wanna broadcast to every person out there what you are saying, or that you listen to metal, or that you're being yelled at by your mom, or maybe you just like to know that we can hear you breathing on that piece of equipment that can record sounds, it's your choice man.
It should also be our choice not to have to.
And no, I'm not going to turn off the voice chat because I actually use it with other friends and players, and if you don't wanna listen to me and my buddies setting up strategies, fine, you should be able to mute us.
Can you ?
No.
Hate or love the MW series, they still had an in game mute option, accessible from the multiplayer lobby or just by accessing the scoreboard.
I mean, really, is it -that- hard to implement ?
And for the lurking trolls who always come up with the "if-it's-so-easy-why-don't-you-create-a-game-that's-so-big-and-successful-and-make-your-own-changes" BS, we're talking about a mute button, not a way to interface your mind and the game by means of astropathic guru telekinesis voodoo, we're talking about something that's been used all over other multiplayer games.

i know its not ideal but if it gets bad enough you can simply disable voice comms
I have my mic muted as well as my multiplayer volume set to 0 in the Coalesced file. Doesn't work. I can still hear people.

Granted, having admin rights on the TS so I can actually kick someone who is all OM NOM NOM SLURP MUFFLE NOM SLURP in their mic is nice, too.

I thought it was quite funny listening to the name calling, but that quickly stopped and it became kinda annoying...I wanted to mute the tv, but then I wouldn't hear the brutes sneaking up behind me >.<

You absolutely NEED to hear me scream "AMERICA" into my mic every time I do a biotic charge with my red-white-and-blue Krogan. The game won't accept anything less..!

Would be nice if there was a userlist on the screen with animated speaker icons next to them, so we know who's talking at any given time. All my games are randoms, so everyone is a stranger. Being able to easily mute people would be great, too. Had a match this morning before work, and there was a little French kid that was obviously unaware that he was broadcasting. Played fine, but it was a constant stream of chatter that really didn't fit the moment, and I didn't have a large enough time window to go back to the lobby to hunt for different partners.
This. I simply don't have time to spend 35-40 seconds wading through the XBox's laggy menus to mute someone. Give some purpose to the "pause" screen Bioware!

On PC hardly anyone uses voice chat because PC gamers are used to text chat in online games. BioWare left that out for some reason so most matches have no communication between players whatsoever.
I can think of one bad experience with voice spam and that was continuous audio from a porn video.
