You are sort of asking them to waste several millions of dollars, as well as time, on developing something you may not like anyway =/

Even if you have that, customer don't bother with your artistic things. Make some extra ending didn't bother anyone. Just make one.
You'd rather they came out and said:
"You know what. It's just not worth it. We disagree with the fans that the ending is poorly written, and we are proud of our work. In addition, it would cost too much, it would take too long, most people would generally be fed up before we could realistically release the new content, and it would force us to relocate resources from new exciting projects that we have a great deal of faith in for something that simply isn't financially viable."
I know your point but i don't think extra ending needs much cost in some way. Actually i happy with some ending scene tweak and cutscenes that indicates universe is preserved.

Note that I'm not complaining, I'd rather they take their time and do it right, but chances are they're going to take their time and it'll still be wrong. If anything. it leaves me hoping that this extra stuff will actually be substantial.

Seriously what a bunch of whiny, self entitled cretins you all are.
Bioware have given you SOMETHING, this is unprecedented. The ending of the game, love it, hate it, think it's broken WHATEVER! It's what they chose, this is THEIR STORY not yours, we had choices, we made some influence on it, but ultimately the story was always theirs to tell.
You didn't like it? fine, they're attempting to help as best they can, but you can't expect them to completely change it just to make everyone happy. That's pure madness people. They've stood up and taken notice, be proud of that.
Just because you don't like something doesn't make it NOT ART, in fact art is often is defined as something which creates a divisive emotional response, something this ending has clearly done. I don't like Picasso's Cubism period, I think it looks like crap and is a waste of his previously shown talents. That doesn't mean I'd go and tell him to stop expressing things the way he thinks best, I don't have to like it. I can choose to ignore the damn thing.
If this is truly the 'fanbase' Bioware has, then good riddance with to you, I'll keep buying Bioware games and enjoying them.
I'm not disappointed in Bioware, I'm disappointed in it's fans.
Very well put - I fully agree with you on this. People were expecting a 'happily ever after' ending, however bioware decided to create something different. I am glad that bioware actually made a different ending and not some generic style ending that we see in almost every video game and movie on the market.
This news of the 'Extended Cut' has cemented my faith in Bioware, not many studios would take such interest in satisfying the community. People need to have a little faith.

From that small FAQ it looks to be that they are extending the ending to clarify. So in otherwords no matter what we did in ALL three games is still irrelevant which for me was the whole point of saying. DUDES! WHERES MY GAME END? My TAILORED END GAME? MY NONE A , B, C END GAME.
LOL this makes me laugh and cry all at the same time!

It would. They would have to pay for the work, the testing, the voice acting, the cinematics, and all that money and time would have to be taken from other projects. It could potentially ruin whatever other projects they have going on.
Also, assuming that the universe isn't preserved already is jumping the gun a
little. For all we know the dlc will show the that the universe isn't
ruined. Far too early to tell. I for one find the mere assumption that my team of highly
trained soldiers and researchers would be unable to survive on a clearly
habitable planet to be presumptuous and unrealistic.

Dramatic and unrealistic. Bioware are a company that have consistently improved their games in the past decade, they are unlikely to fall off the map over an incident such as this.

This DLC completely misses the point. Honestly, just adding (non-rendered) cutscenes and slideshows is probably the laziest and cost-efficient way they could have gone about this. They will adress 10% of the problems with the ending and now we're supposed to be grateful? Futhermore, making this "free" is not a service to their fans, but simple damage control, as the fall of reputation following a prized DLC would have resulted in even less profits in the furure.
Hate to say it, but this is unacceptable. Bioware knows all too well what we wanted from an ending DLC and they are bluntly ignoring the vast majority of our concerns while acting like our best friends in public. This is unbelievable... After reading this statement, I fail to see them as anything more than cold and greedy capitalists, who clearly put the money before their fans.
I will wait until I see the result of this, but if it turns out how it is described, Goodbye, Bioware. I have other developers to support with my money (Bethesda, Valve, CD Project) than you.

So I guess we wait a couple years until we can pull a KOTOR 2?
If I could get into the code, I'd do a project to change it up. There wouldn't be the voice acting as I'm not a rich man and it would take some time.
That's all specious, though, since there is no getting into the code.

How is a happy ending any more generic than what they came up with? The ending is straight out of Deus Ex and everybody saw the heroic sacrifice thing coming. It could have been one of those "wildly different" endings we were promised.

I was expecting this outcome, and Im pretty satisfied with it. I just hope Bioware will scrap the "no-sequel" business, and make future ME titles AFTER ME3.
We got a FREE DLC people, I would call that a win.
Then again, Im a realist.

This is disappointing.
While the new cutscenes which will hopefully offer a way to distinguish which ending you are watching, other than colourscheme, is a good move, I'm still concerned that this is indicative of the bullheadedness that resulted in EA recently winning a coveted business prize.
Mainly, it comes across as saying:
"We still think our ending makes sense, but we'll explain it slowly for the thickies at the back. With pretty pictures!"

this FAQ says nothing about added gameplay or content, just scenes, which really begs the question as to why it's going to take until summer.
Because it takes quite awhile to do CGI. It's just not a matter of an artist drawing a few lines and voila. If they add three minutes of CGI, the render time alone for that is massive, not mention it would take artists WEEKS to draw it all.
Also, and I don't know if this is true, but IF they do an epilogue kind of thing where they explain what happened to everyone and every race etc based on your choices, that is a mega amount of scripting and writing they have to do. There are thousands of variables. Even though you can combine things, you're still talking about hundreds of different possibilities, and they all need to be written.
Before anyone starts complaining "THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!" yes, I agree. But hopefully they are at least doing it now.
I'll wait and see what happens. If nothing else, I'll write my own endings. This wonderful person here is already doing a marvelous job :
