Some fans were mad at Mass Effect 3's ending, and BioWare has capitulated and offered a free DLC download that offers a different ending to the game.

The change will occur through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes. A general date of "summer" has been given for the DLC, but there are no timing specifics beyond that.“We have re-prioritized our post-launch

development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player,” said Casey Hudson, the series' executive

producer. The DLC's free status expires on April 12, 2014, and it requires an internet connection (naturally) and EA Origin registration.

It's not a different ending btw, it's additional stuff to explain the ending. No changes to the storyline ending will be made.

Judging by ME3's track record....I'm getting the distinct impression that this DLC will only make things worse.

Like...the big question currently is "What happened to all of our allies". Fully expecting the dlc to just be a screen with the words "They Died." For 800mp.

Well, if they are going to really "change" the ending, they will have to change the intro, Quarian vs. Geth missions, the dream sequences, etc, to make the new ending to fit the old plot...

Expansion, plus, explanation, plus remove the Joker scene is only way to go without demolishing the entire game. The editor from Tech Gadget was right, the entire game plot was broken to begin with.

game informer got it wrong by the way it doesn't change the ending at all and its free where does it say for how long on this forum also note they stated April 24th which there is not date given on the announcement.,

another failed attempt to report things that is already known and falsify it with a date say it will change the ending and to make bioware look bad by saying that  after a certain date that it will cost you  some money ..

"Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned."

God that makes me angry. They threw an entire franchise out the window trying to be "artsy". There's a time and place to get creative, but the much-hyped grand finale to an epic trilogy is most certainly NOT IT.

And the worst part? The ending(s) weren't even artistic. They were just cliche (Jump into the beam of light for a literal deus ex machina, sacrifice yourself, or do what you came to do.)

Western game developers have no "artistic integrity". I do not mean that as an insult, that is a fact. It is why eastern games are so far beyond ours on an artistic level. They are more inclined to that sort of thing. We as a western culture, are not. It's why Shepard is yet another space marine instead of some unique protagonist.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but I hate the whole "artistic integrity" excuse when they have no noteworthy artistic talent.

I also like to see some more multiplayer mode other than the current one. May something with a simple story.

I believe that's called Co-op... ;)

Something tells me this announcement isn't going to put the flames out. Trying to explain the poor endings is not going to placate those who were invested in the storyline and characters (as well as gameplay obviously...this isn't a bleedin' novel)...can't put lipstick on a pig and call it a supermodel.

'Garrus miscalibrated a gun which misfired and killed Tali, Garrus then commited suicide'.

As much as I agree the 'artistic integrity' card always seems to get played by storytellers to excuse rubbish, lets not pretend that eastern games are somehow superior here - anyone who's played the later FFs knows full well the limits of the artistic vision of eastern game development.

By unique do you mean the cookie cutter mold of being sexually ambiguous with gravity defying hair, an outfit that consists of way to many zippers and buckles, and a melodramatic backstory?  Besides a few notable exceptions, eastern RPGs are anything but unique anymore.

I'm guessing the end sequence occurs while Shep is unconsious and the Reapers are trying to indoctorinate them.. whichever ending you pick will be irrelevent as Mass Effect 4 will be Shep coming around getting up to the Citadel and fighting through all the way to the secret control room to finally wipe out the reapers, maybe... Or the whole ME1,2,3 was just a bad dream and ME4 starts with Shep in the shower just before landing on Eden Prime to pick up the first beacon... al la Dallas

If the ending does not change. What incentive do I have to get any of the future DLC since you're going to get the same stupid endings anyway. I want a final confrontation with Harbinger at the minimum.

Yeah, you should change your thread title, since it isn't accurate. No changes, just clarification and more cutscenes. The pretty colours are staying. D:<
