I recently started to play the game and have come to the point were I know have more than 4 companions. While in camp I seem to have no party (formed when leaving camp) and it seems one can also change the party outside camp at any time. My questions would then be:
1. Are there any effects on the companions if you ever leave them out for a while? Or not include them when leaving camp? Or can one switch them in and out at will dueing the game? For example geting someone with lockpicking in to open all chests and then remove them, bringing in the dog to go looking for items and so on? WIl the approval ever be affected?
2. Will the approval change for decisions done on quests even if the companions is back in the camp?
3. Would this in any way change if one have a romance with someone? Can I still leave them out for certains quests for example? Or would that end the romance?
4. I suppose one can't have more than one romance going eventually but will one ever lose the companion one decide to end a romance with or can it stay?
5. Are romances evolving over the entire game, like in BG2 or can one squeeze in two romances one after the other during the game?
6. Speaking of approval and romances, will the order in which one give gifts ever matter? Or will the final approval boost always be the same regardless of order?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

First, you can't change your party at any time. You usually can't change them in any fighting area. You can change in towns, though (Denerim and Orzammar, at least).
Now, to answer your other questions:
1. No effect. Only some might react positively (or negatively) at your actions. If you don't take them with you, the only way to change their approval is by talking with them at camp and giving them gifts.
2. Depends on the quests and the companions. I'm not gonna give any spoilers, but some big events will trigger a discussion with some companions when you get back to camp, even if you didn't have them with you at the time.
3. You can certainly leave people out, even if you romance them. They might still be annoyed at certain events (see question 2.), but just leaving them in camp won't end the romance.
4. You can keep companions if you end your romance with them (at least with Zevran... Others might take it harder, I don't know). And you can certainly end one romance to start a new one. I've done that. If you start romancing one person while you're still in a romance with another one, it will even trigger specific dialog about it.
5. Romances actually ends right after you've slept with that person. By that, I mean there's nothing new going on once you've slept with them. As I said, I've romanced two characters, but I'm sure you could get through all of them in one game, by trying hard enough.
6. I think it does. The more gifts you give, the less the following ones will impact approval. I'm not sure whether the overall boost would be different though. I assume if you give a whole lot of +1 gifts, then you won't win much by giving bigger gifts...

Also, party members will leave you if their approval is very low or if you take certain actions which trigger a crisis moment for them.

Thanks for the answers. Regarding being able to change the pary at any time, seems that was the case during Lothering only then. I just assumed it was always like that but seems I was wrong then.
