I'm with you on that. The one thing I wanted out of this was for everyone to be able to reunite with their LI if they wish.

Plus, we don't even know what BioWare's definition of "clarification" and "closure" is. That's why I'm so annoyed with the reactions around here. We have no idea what they're planning or what they're going to do. The only thing I do know is that I'm not going to act like a petulant child.

I've been around the corporate culture for 12 years. I can say that Bioware's reaction came to no surprise to me. In fact, I posted exactly what would happen a week ago. It was mostly ignored. Some thingd to remember:

1) Don't blame Bioware/EA.  It's not that they don't WANT to change the ending. It's just that they can't. It's got nothing to do with artistic integrity, tho. 

2) There was never a chance for them to change the ending. Let me say this again for emphasis:   THERE WAS NEVER A CHANCE FOR THEM TO CHANGE THE ENDING. Like i said above, I've already mentioned in an old (completely ignored) post in the Retakers forum. It showed in the tone, direction and language of their PR reply.

3) They're calling your bluff. They don't think the majority will follow thru on their boycott threats. With good reason.

What's next? Predictable really.

Don't delude yourself. EA is neither worried nor affected nor "scrambling". The direction of EA's PR campaign has always been measured and controlled:

They got media on their side. This way they can influence "moderate" opinions and focus the direction of the "pro" crowd towards a specific direction while discrediting (to the best of their abilities) the retakers or "anti" crowd.

They bided their time and waited for the moderate's passion (who are leaning towards a dislike of the endings) to lose steam.

They extended an olive branch (free DLC). Don't get decieved. This is nothing more than a PR tactic which is:

Divide and conquer. They now made the moderates within the movment split with some being optimistic with the upcoming DLC (including some of the organizers) and others understanding that this is just not what they wanted. 

Let me just say this again: the ending will NOT change whatsoever. Only "clarified".  It is obvious with the tone/ language/direction of their statement.

In the end, the choice is always with the individual on how they wish to accept this. Just don't be decieved in believing that the upcoming "free DLC" will be anything that you've hoped for.

By then, however, it'll already be too late.

Check and mate, i guess.

I have a feeling that BW is probably going for the easiest and the lowest common denominator as the solution here. A lot of posts about grievances amounted to little more than "blue babies and what is that Normandy doing", both of which can be easily addressed with closure cinematics. Provided, of course, that you're willing to commit genocide in order to live.

Anyway, I'm not happy with this. Appreciate the gesture of course, but I don't feel that it's going to hit the issue. Staying calm and withholding full judgement until it arrives, but that doesn't mean I won't be unhappy in the meantime.
