Hello, I just noticed that under my achievements and all the stuff I've unlocked that it shows I have like 160 pts.  What are these points for?  At first I thought maybe I was earning EA pts in game but when I go to look at some DLC it shows 0 pts.  Are these points kinda like the xbox 360 achievemtents and just for bragging rights only or can you do anything with them?

Also I have Wardens Keep under my Downloadable Content but not Return to Ostagar.  Anyone know why that is?  I'd like to buy them both but only one of them shows up.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.  :wizard:  +  :bandit:  =     (Beware my mighty magic evil ones)

Achievements points are points you get for getting achievements in the game.

Achievement points are (and hopefully will alway be) just a record of how much of a game you've completed, NOT a currency you can use to buy stuff with.

The DLC points system comes from purchasing points through the online system and buying DLC with that. Why they do it via a points system, rather than just a flat price for each DLC item, I don't know. Maybe to milk fanatic fanboys out of a bunch of cash when they purchase 8,000 Bioware points on day 1, in the hopes of a ton of future DLC.

If there's no point to the points, what's the point?

They prove that I'm better than you. Don't believe me? Compare the achievements I have to yours. It's pretty definitive.

Ask Microsoft. Probably where they got the idea.

It's like a way of keeping score with your progress.

There isn't one.

It's like Gamerscore on XBox Live - it serves no purpose at all.

The one thing it sort of helps in is you know without checking gamefaqs or something how many different plot possibilities you've unlocked in the game. That said, I could do without all the silly ones at the end of the list.

I'd say it adds replay value, and some reason to attempt to accomplish the game in different ways. It basically gives you some direction into things that may be more hidden or may be choice related that could alter the way the game plays out, as opposed to just leaving you to figure it out (or not) yourself.

Aside from that, maybe something "cool and flashy at the bottom of your screen occasionally" :-P

The current achievement system serves no purpose for non-competitive players (I have all online options disabled in the INI.). I haven't seen more than maybe one achievement per play-through since my first character.

If achievements have to be in a game, I prefer them to be per-character, as in WoW. Alas, we're not given that option in DA:O. Now that I have most of the achievements, I often forget they exist. Way to go Bioware.

At least achievements have no impact on other characters like in Mass Effect. That's a cardinal sin for a RPG imo.

On a related note while I'm RPing a character I wouldn't dream of giving them the templar spec before unlocking it first just because I did so in an earlier game, there's just no way to justify that with any of the origins. Some less specific ones like champion or berserker is more acceptable.

On ME, unlocking weapons or skills was very interesting, to make new classes and new gameplay style. Sniper adept, shotgun infiltrator, etc... It was cool when you played the game several times with all the classes and wanted to change. Character, lore, etc... achievement only gave 1-3% bonus, it was not really cheated.
The achievements like DAO and many games is just useless. I don't care to unlock things everybody will have in few days, with absolutely no awards.

I was hoping these achievements were more in line with what Ubisoft is doing with uplay and Assassin's Creed 2. In AC2, the achievement points allow you to unlock exclusive DLC.

It just seems like they decided to include the achievements on the PC since they were already on the console games. I mean the Bioware points system is a direct ripoff of the Xbox Live point system (i.e. $10 for 800 points).

Overall, it's an easy way to show you how much of the available game content you have NOT seen. As long as you have not garnered a given achievement, you haven't unlocked the associated cutscene.

For those gamers that play like getting from Point A to Point B in the least amount of time is all they want to do, Achievement Points are meaningless. For those that would like to see _everything_ that they've paid for, the current AP total shows them that there's something they've been missing in their gameplay.

Achievements are worthless since you can just use the console commands to get many of them. The only worthy achievement would be for someone to beat hard or nightmare on their first playthrough without reloading or cheats. hats off to whoever can do that.
