I bet they are not worthless to bioware... think about it. Every player who plays with an online profile unlocks achievements as they progress through the game, some are easy, and some quite difficult to get, which tells bioware almost exactly how much people are playing the game, where they got up to, what they like in a game (Hopelessly Romantic anyone?) and how hard they will try to 'clock' the game. This is valuable marketing data people!

Achievements beyond the "killed X stuff" counter like, are a good way to know what you may have not yet done in the game such as particular romances, quests, etc.

That's assuming you can compare your current achievement list with the complete list which unfortunatly does not show up in the game.

I think it would be nice to have a toggle button (for those who may be worried by spoilers) on the achievement panel, so a player could press it and see the complete greyed list, with descriptions to see what he has not achieved yet.

I can understand the achievements, they show you've y'know, achieved something. The points seem pretty pointless though.

Yup! I agree. The points by themselves are useless.

Not when most of them are just there for completing plot points. The only way that's an achievement is if your controller broke half way through and you finished by manipulating the game with your mind.

They're not bragging rights, because literally everyone can do them and they're not useful in tracking what you've missed because they have imprecise names and the only way to find out what they refer to is to track them down online, so you might as well check gamefaqs instead.

Some people enjoy collecting them, and they're usually harmless apart from the irritating flashy crap that pops up on the bottom of the screen, but they're being a right nuisance with Return to Ostagar. DA:O's achievements have been some of the worst I've seen, easily gained by doing nothing but playing the game and apparently technically complex enough that they can't get them working and have to hold up patches and DLC for them.

On good days I pose riddles to the passersby offering them Achievement Points in exchange for correct answers.

The achievement points should work as currency to download dlc!! It`s almost useless otherwise!

This.

To sum it up: What are achievement points good for?

You: Ego, Progress Tracking, "how much have I seen" --> No real world (i.e. money) value.

Bioware: Data. Sweet, delicous data. --> OMG, the monieees!! (from better sales of future games).

It's more of what you've done ingame and in someway of.. showing off?

That's all I know about it. It's nothing special. It's just like Trophy on PS3.

If they're going to use the data to make content for future games better, then why the hell not.  We're the ones who are going to be playing them.

I dunno, I think the achievements are fun, not important or essential, but fun. Makes me realize that after more characters and partial playthoughs than I care to admit, I still havent done a lot. That and I almost NEVER get all specializations for a single class. Boo on me. On the bright side, I have many a choice of avatar lol

Oh heavens, I remember when that song came out (hopelessly dating myself, here).

I just use them as a measure of what I've done, various plot threads I might want to try, and just a general way of telling myself, "You go, girl!".  Note:  If you hover over an unlocked achievement, it'll tell you what it is.  I'm not talking about the places with question marks in them, but ones where you can see the shadow of the achievement shield.

I don't know what the points are for, and I don't really care. The nice little crests of the achievements themselves look lovely on my profile, though, and it makes me feel like I've done something awesome. Also, like a few other people have said, it's a good way to gauge what I haven't yet done.

To put it simply..bragging rights, if you're into that. I just scan mine to see what ones I haven't managed to get yet. Other than that..no other value.

The big point of the achievement from Bioware's perspective is (as it has been stated before) marketing data. Your online profile gives Bioware plenty of marketing data. The only problem is they need to get their servers working better.

Damn, I was hoping I could somehow purchase DLC with them. Not expensive DLC mind you, just like Shale or something. Damn.
