I have been seeking help since the demo. Here is the break down:

Husband and I can't connect to each other's games.
Husband and I can't connect to Friend A or Friend B's games.
Husband and I can ONLY connect to Friend C's games.
Friend A, B, and C can't connect to husband or I
Quick match people can't connect to husband or I (We can't host quick matches)

Out of hundreds of games we've played (My N7 level is close to 300) ONE time I was able to connect to my husband. ONCE. It has not happened again and can not be repeated.

We have forwarded all our ports and used all the suggestions that were listed in the Demo connection problem thread and various live threads. This includes the Bioware suggestions and random user suggestions. We have googled for hours to no avail. We have NO problems connecting to each other, or friends, or random people in other online games.

It is REALLY upsetting to have purchased 2 copies of this game and to be unable to play with our own spouse OR our friends UNLESS one specific friend feels like playing. Additionally: that friend is getting bored and hardly plays.. what does that mean for us? Suddenly we can't play anymore except stupid random quick matches which fail more often than not, or are full of rude obnoxious people. Please explain to me why so many of us have purchased copies of the games but can't play with each other. My husband has stopped playing Multiplayer almost entirely due to this problem. I don't even know if he'll be able to participate in Operation: Beachead due to having promoted his characters and not having the time/willpower to drudge through nothing but quickmatches to level. (Not to mention all the DCs on wave 10.)

Signed,
Ivy who just freaking wants to play with her husband and friends when SHE wants to not when friend C wants to.

Yep. You're not alone. I simply don't understand the point of having a friends list if one can't join in a game with those friends. In my case I can't join most of my friends and so I simply gave up joining my friend's game as they did.

I can play public games fine.

I totally agree. I would like BIOWARE to actually say something about it. Even if it's "It is being investigated as we speak... or in near future" Right now it seems (by the lack of bioware posts in here), that they just don't care or can't be bothered to help their customers.
I quicly read the titles of 2-3 first pages of forum posts and i found the same problem come up in 4 different threads (for example here, here, here) and the oldest topic i saw among them is over 21 days old and no comments from bioware on the matter.

PS: That problem didn't exist in MP DEMO (for me at least), so it must have happened later (and after the full version came out we can't play the demo either). (I wouldn't be suprised if it was Origin's fault either).

It kills me to see no useful posts :( This is my third post on the subject. One was from Demo and was several pages long of people with the same problem. One was at release and again several pages of people. Now this post.. and still no word at all ever from Bioware or EA. Hell At this point even an "Eff You we're not fixing it" would be better than flat out ignoring so many people who bought multiple copies to play with friends and loved ones and can't.

Hey Ivy, Sorry this is being obnoxious, I'd like to help.

First, could you tell us what operating system both of you are running.

Please tell us if you are playing on the same local network as your husband.

If so, can you tell us how you are connected to that network, (wireless/wired). What kind of router you are using.

Can you also list the settings you have for port forwarding?

Can you post what exceptions you have added to your firewall to allow Origin to communicate?

Can you post what type of AV/Security program you use?

That should be enough to get started, we'll see what we can do from there.

I have 2 friends+ their gf's with sort of this problem as well.
Their issue is because the modem with intergrated router they were provided by their ISP.
It is not fully capable of doing proper router when handling incomming information that seem to be from the same source.

Note that this is onliy for games where the players are the ones that sort of function as the host for the games, such as mp for ME3, Gears of War and Borderlands.

For example:
Friend A host a game his gf who is connected to the same modem from the inside have no problem connecting. Friend B have no problem connecting to that game either, but Bs gf who is connected who is connected from Bs modem can't because she is seen by Friend As router-modem as a second connection from B and gets rejected because a connection is already established.

Easiest fix to that is to get a proper router. Have all your home devices connect to the router instead of the modem with integrated router functionality because frankly, most router-modems provided by the ISPs suck balls and can't really fully function as a router the same way as a real router can. Only reason why ISPs choose them is because they can handle several connections from inside and store mac/IPs like a router and they are usually cheap.

I'm not going to go into great detail about why, but the issue's your router. It's either not configured correctly or simply doesn't have the capacity to manage game traffic over multiple platforms on your local network.

A simply solution, sadly, is to replace your current router with a model designed specifically for gaming. Set the router up in the same way you've got your current one, and login to it. Enable Univeral Plug n' Play, be sure NAT is also enabled if applicable, save the settings, and power cycle your network devices.

Don't manually forward any ports, and be sure your consoles/PCs aren't using any static IPs. Just leave everything to the router's automation.
