I wrote it in script form rather than story form because ME seemed more like a movie than anything else to me. I tried to keep it very close to its video game origins though, and IMHO it turned out pretty well.

Right but it must be as "video-gamey" as it possibly can be, have plenty of stuff we "don't need", and can have absolutely no "artistic integrity" or "artistic vision" to it.   As long as it follows those conventions, it should be solid.

Edit - Ugh, typos.

Some food for thought:

Would an epic final boss fight with Harbinger take some of the sting out of the bad ending?

Only if it was the best boss fight in the history of all boss fights. For me, that would be better than the eel in the Water Temple on Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. (Don't judge me... :pinched:)

Just understood one funny thing: in my country we don't have strict laws about piracy, so 99% of people go to torrents to download and play a new game (and yes, DLC and save import works with repacks). When ME1 was released, I bought it and my friends were laughing at me - cause it's stupid to pay money for what you can get for free. Well, I usually told that these money will go all the way back to developers and if game brings profit - they will make it bigger and better. Than ME2 came, and guess what - all my friends did actually like it. So I spoke again and almost forced them to buy ME3 (and ME2 just to be fair to developers) in advance in hopes of it being even better.
Now we have ME3.
To cut it short: my friends will go back to downloading.

The last boss fight is unimportant.

Would it be nice? Yes, but that isn't what is wrong with the ending in the slightest.

I agree, but at least it would be something rather than a load of BS. Although, put that way, it would be like putting sprinkles on the crap and saying, "Doesn't that make it better?"

I revoke my earlier statement.

welcome to the movement! With your help we can make this work, and not only show EA and Bioware something, but the entire gaming industry as well

[/quote]

Thank you.  I hope that this goes well beyond the bioware issures and shows gaming companies that they have reached the limits of what gamers are willing to take, and that they must quit these practices if they want to stay in buisness.

If each member of this movement refuses to purchase two new games and one DLC package:

ESTIMATED DAMAGE TO BIOWARE CHECKBOOK: Surpassing $100,000.00.

And think, if only 25% of the retake movement is on board with not spending money on more ME stuff, thats 15000 possible people x $135 for the above merchandise = $2 million.

Ouch.

Nice math! Do you think EA is considering this already? One can only hope, but if we keep going this strong, they'll notice for sure.

ive spent hundreds of dollars on mass effect alone.  i also used to buy all the ce or limited editions.  im sure there are more out there llke me that are willing to take a stand and not buy new anymore.  therefore i think the damages could be much higher than calculated above.  though your math is pretty sound.

As I have posted before, got burned with DA II on a pre order....never would have thought the pre order of ME3 would turn out the same. The game did not just have ending problems, it also had beginning problems:
1. Import ME1-ME2-ME3 save...fail right off the bat! QA anyone.
2. One key to rule them all! More dangerous to me on insanity then the combined forces of the Reapers and Cerberus.
3. No Mako, quit dumbing the game down for folks who cannot handle firing in one direction while driving in another. The Hammerhead was horrible... Auto aim, rapid fire, tissue paper mobile and took away my ability to disembark.  This is why we'll never see Mechwarrior again LOL.
4. Mini games MIA. Need to bring back the ME2 ones with tie in to a skill like ME1 had, with more variatIon based on difficulty/skill level aka more "code blocks" with less time if low skill/high difficulty lock and same idea for jumpering circuits.
5.  Probably forgot some...so give me Urz on the ship!

Just remembered...War Assets with no missions just scan and get, then ultimately made irrelevant.

Then OMFG the ending........

Even with the above issues which I was personally dissatisfied with it was still 9 out of 10 material till the last 15 mikes.
See the many YouTube videos for a breakdown, no need for me to rehash the ending flaws.
This was for sure the last pre purchase of any video game for me, and I had already decided it was the last IP I would
be buying with the EA label attached.  Now I will wait to see what the extended cut brings before purchasing any additional DLC as Bioware has dropped the ball so bad it has left me with no incentive to replay or expand the world or add more content.
Sorry for the wall O text

Don

Such a thing would truly be awesome. However, I admit that an ending boss fight is not what makes an ending bad. There clearly wasn't enough dealing with Harbinger in the game considering the build up in Mass Effect 2. To me, Harbinger was the face of the reapers, and if we could see its destruction in Mass Effect 3, that would be the face of victory, knowing that all reapers would be soon to follow. But even so, this is low on the list compared to everything else that makes the ending broken.

Here's a fun read for you all, if you haven't already heard of the tale of Shepard's Last Foe.

His name was Marauder Shields.

True, but it would make it more video-gamey, which, being that this is a video game, would be a plus.

That and an epic Final Boss fight would also complement a good ending, you must admit.

Harbinger was taunting us in ME2, saying how we gonna fail. Then he became a sideshow.

True, and I'd definitely love to have seen Harbinger in some form fight against Shepard. But I wouldn't want to just have another repeat of the final fight from Mass Effect 1, like they did with the Illusive man/Saren.

I would have liked to have seen Bioware do something creative. For example, let's say that Harbinger tried to stop Shepard from activating the crucible. We would hear his voice attempting to quickly take over Shepard, and Shepard would have to fight illusions to continue forward, finally activating the crucible and destroying the reapers. By overcoming Harbinger, we would be able to destroy the reapers.

I actually saw a good example of a fan script for the ending featuring something like this. If only I could find it...
