Why can't they be clear? Is that too difficult for them to tell what they have in mind?

I agree. Although having being an Arsenal fan (for those who follow English soccer) for 16 years I've become kinda used to it over the last half decade. Everyone else must just be a glutton for punishment.

Being a gooner's not that bad. Try supporting a team with very little money, who has to sell their best players every year. *cough* Arteta  *cough*

Here's my theory:

They've been quite vague on Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, they just only stated that it will expand on the endings we already have and that it will provide further details on them.

Now, let's think about it: Bioware & EA are in a pretty difficult situation. Bioware might be loving games and EA might be (ARE) loving money, but the moment you set up a company the first thing that counts is your image, and theirs has been under fire from every direction recently.

So in order to get out of this situation, no matter the way they decided to do it, a lot of careful PR work is in order. Because they know they will loose either way. Why?

If they do nothing about it, their image will get bombed even more. If they do something about it they're going to spend extra money on a project that has been confirmed as closed and now is risking to waste even more potential profit (games returned or games that might be sold but are not due to the news one can find associated with the title).

But, they cannot give in and announce that they will give us what we wanted all along, sadly this would not help their image in the long run, even if we fans would love them for it. They're not two guys in the basement, it's a corporate reality, with a lot of people who care about their corporate chair more than about the product they're selling so their influential factors are not only the "pissed fans" like myself who are also their lifeblood.

Furthermore they will be VERY careful with their PR statements now, so I don't think Jessica Merizan would make declarations of any kind without somekind of official input. The last thing they need now is a PR making statements that have no basis.

Bottom line, all this to tell you that, in MY OPINION, they WILL MODIFY the endings in order to fix them and then EXPAND on them. They will work on plotholes and alter the Star Child enough to make him more sensical now.

But they can't say it clearly to all internet reporters out there. It would make them APPEAR weak and would prove they ****ed it up, be it on purpose or due to corporate decisions.

But this way they would 1. appear as a community-caring company to all pissed fans outthere 2. they would show the press they are listening to their customers but are not willing to compromise their integrity or their artistic vision for them. Thus, there's no new precedent. Just making the same that Fallout 3 did.

It's because the current lynch mob is jumping and twisting everything they are saying. For example: Clarification automatically = s***.  Although smart writing and and less than two minutes of additional footage can solve and entire ending.

This is from their announcement:

"Extended Cut" will help answer some questions and give closure to this chapter of the Mass Effect story.
….
the DLC will offer extended scenes that provide additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard's journey.
….
Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?
No. BioWare strongly believes in the team's artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

So nothing changes.

The hilarity lies in the fact that if they said "Oh crap, what did we just do?!" in the first week of the outrage, the lynch mobs would've died out naturally by the time they announced the DLC. Instead they chose the silent treatment and then stonewall denial of any fault of the ending. Way to put out a forest fire with plasma, guys.

As long as Shep reunites with crew/relay rebuild =/= green ending only. i mean what's the point of make it extra hard for Shep lives ending if it screws up even more.

I was thinking around five to ten minutes. We just played three games, and it's also the final game. It's not just Shepard's story that's finished, but it's ending all the characters stories as well. I would've thought the writers would've knew that when concluding ME3. Not featuring the other characters at the finale, and not explaining the ending enough was always the problem for me. Putting more effort into that would be enough.

This is great news! I hope they don't say too much more. I want to experience whatever it is they have cooking for myself!

Why couldn't any of this be made public with the press release? This sounds much better.

I really don't understand how so many things are going to explained purely through cinematics with this DLC and no gameplay... It's gunna take another 30 minutes of cutscenes to do so.

I will really be unsatisfied if 90% of it is explained in a wall of text.

Well, gamble said otherwise yesterday. Though it's Gamble, I now take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Meh, we'll see op. Bioware has been less than trustworthy as of late.

Basically I have given up on this and I believe BW doesn't deserve the title of "developer who can deliver good stories" anymore. Anyway apart from the ending ME3 is a great game.

if they remove destroying the geth from destroy ending and let me reunite with my crew I would accept that ending and be ok with it.

well what i thought about...
the geht have their consensus, they are software uploaded in hardware to work right? and the hardware is synthetic. so in the detroy ending only their hardware (their bodies) get destroyed, but not their minds (software), same goes for EDI was she is housed in the normandy AI core.

or am i completely wrong with that?

Destroy the hardware and the software has nowhere to exist.

And, unlike the geth, EDI can't exist outside her blue box. Destroy that, she's gone, according to in-game information.

Personally I'm ok with nonsense and plot-holes as I can ignore them. I know Shepard could just go "Hey Miranda! Where's the Cerberus base?" But I don't care. If the extended cut makes think of the ending as something worth reaching then I'll be satisfied. This thread has just made me feel more optimistic that that might come to be.:)

Don't get your hopes up... It'll probably be just the deleted scenes we're seeing from youtube.

Shepard commits genocide... everyone dies.... no one starves.
