The boycott of Starcraft 2 over LAN support.
The boycott of Modern Warfare over dedicated servers.
The boycott over Devil May Cry over its multiplatform release.
How is Retake Mass Effect different from these so called boycotts that crumbled in the face of release day? The difference is that at the heart of every Starcraft or Modern Warfare protest, there was still a fan who wanted to play the game, they just wanted to play it their way. The Starcraft protesters wanted to play Starcraft 2 with LAN support. The Modern Warfare protesters wanted to play Modern Warfare on dedicated servers. And in the end, their desire to play the game outweighed whatever misgivings they had about them.
The ending to Mass Effect 3 did something to a lot of people that we didn't think was possible. It made us not want to play Mass Effect. So this is Bioware's last shot. I have one character (and only one character despite having a handful of completed ME2 files available) parked outside the Cerberus Base until summer. If the experience is fun, I'll be a future customer. If it's not, I won't. Not sure what I'll do in the mean time. Single player is out, but I might play multiplayer. Odds are I'll just play other games since the single player of Mass Effect 3 just isn't worth it in the state it's in.
