alright...
so anybody who's played this game long enough has usually decided they're going to challenge themselves next time around. one of the most common ones i've seen are to solo nightmare.
yeah... possible. you just find a good build and run through, hoping you don't run into your build-bane, so to speak.
but... doesn't the pause button make this game a lot easier?
I say that if you've already beaten nightmare solo, try and do it again without ever using the pause button. in fact remap the key so that you can't pause with a hotkey.
I plan on doing this on my next playthrough. what about you guys? discuss.

how about no save run. not even autosave. Or the ultimate challenge, solo nightmare no save run.

It is impossible, I cannot help but ask Sandal why the hell he's in Fort Drakon with darkspawn bodies everywhere around him...never fails to grab my attention, short bastard. I had gotten so far in the game, too
ENCHANTMENT!!!!

yes the game auto saves so you fail quite easily....

So many rules, when you only need one. Solo, no potions.

Posté 04 décembre 2009 - 07:15
you forget that there's an option to turn off autosave
and anyway... we seem to have gotten off-topic. contrary to popular belief, i'm actually serious about taking on this challenge. how difficult would it to make a successful build that can solo nightmare, and at the same time micromanage it without ever pausing?

I think it is possible with a well built CC mage taking advantage of spell combination's...and keeping a very healthy mana pot supply handy. Dunno about a completionist run-through that way though, would probably run out of pots and ingredients about 70% of the way through, if not sooner.

I applaud your enthusiasm, but you guys are crazy. I mean that in a good way, i just can not see myself doing it. I think in order to do it your way you will have to skip so much of what makes the game special that it would at least for me defeat the purpose of playing. Seriously good luck and keep us posted as to how it works out.

hmm... well my gf's character is getting ready to lop off the archdemon's head soon, so i'm going to be starting this challenge soon... masochistic and suicidal as it may be.
... I anticipate much running around and misclicking...
but anyway, what build might I use? being as difficult as it is, the only two I can really think of are ones that have been shown to kinda trivialize the game: rogue/stealth/arrow of slaying or AW/BM.
both are pretty evil... but what about the first 12 levels?
perhaps if I built a mage, carefully selecting my spells so that he would be a decent soloist up until shimmering shield... but without pausing it'll be hard to target correctly... hmm...

Go play hardcore Diablo 2 and lose a char at level 90 plus then you go try a challenge like no save (disable auto save too), no pots, no pause, no armor, no weapon, no Sandal, no buying items too, no DLC items, no mage class... and if you're really up to it... no assigning level up points, skills and talents!
Solo NM as a level 1... that should be fun...

Whilst not being really up on how you guys that play nightmare level (even with a group) manage it, I have to wonder could you even get out of the origin story if you did that RageGT?
Anyone that can, I salute you.

So here we are just barely over one month from the games release date and the OP starts out with:
so anybody who's played this game long enough...
Like it's already been ages LOL
Sorry for the OT post - I just found that hilarious
(perhaps becuase I usually play these games for YEARS - I was still playing BG & BG2 when NWN2 was released and played NWN2 until DA:O was released)

I think that the original idea of the challenge was lost on some of you... the only specifications of the challenge are to solo nightmare mode. and to not pause. (except, you know, for leaving the computer, but it's the non tactical pause)
other than that, the only thing you can't do are use mods. just try and beat the game that way.

I would do this but sadly xbox does not allow you to have more than 6 bound abilities and so my mages would have to pause the game. (Only way to use other spells not bound is to pause forcibly with radial menu.) Good idea though, cheers to anyone who can pull it off.

Or get the Nightmare plus mode that takes all injury kits from the game, sets higher price and cooldown times on healing pots making them pretty much unusable in-combat, improves AI so it is not possible kiting one out of a pack, improved AI so they attack with their best talents for the right situation/enemy, gives them more life, better stats... then you can try it either with a regular gameplay, which will be hard enough or with OP's challenge, which will be kinda impossible.

You don't need injury kits if you have a spirit healer though, just saying.

I think Nightmare Plus has tweaked some spells too. No cleaning aura to heal injuries, iirc.
