I've been pretty lenient with Bioware so far, I think.
But even I, who is not a PR expert, know that refusing to talk after a major announcement is CRAZY.
I work in Sales. I deal with Customer Complaints every day. Yes, the company I work for tells me "how far" I can go when it comes to dealing with complaints. But I at least TRY to come across as genuine, un-scripted and natural.
There is the word.
NATURAL.
This PR release, even the mini FAQ , sounds forced, cold and lacks the warmth I remember from earlier Bioware announcements about DLC, esp. FREE ones. (I still APPRECIATE and WELCOME the DLC however!)
Even I know that artistic integrity is all fine and good. THINK IT, if you must, don't say it when you KNOW it'll upset people. It's as easy as that. Learn from Cicero and HIS polemics, THAT is how it's done if you MUST go down that path.
Why NOT discuss it?
Everyone knows the endings by now. There is no spoiling danger.
Ms. Merizan mentioned that they cannot discuss stuff to make sure they don't promise stuff they cannot deliver.
All well and good. But: Call me crazy, but I think the devs KNOW what they can or cannot do by now.
I do not mind the endings. I am OVERJOYED at the DLC.
But this PR move is so utterly ill conceived, it makes my mind boggle. Bioware, PLEASE, if you ARE listening, RECONSIDER. Don't hide behind PR. TALK to us at PAX. COMMUNICATION is the ABC of good PR and Customer Relations. All your good intentions, which I do not doubt at all, will go to waste if you ignore this issue. So please, if you CARE, if you are LISTENING and if you want the storm to even out, TALK. COMMUNICATE. STOP STONEWALLING!
