Bioware must have skimped on the PR department. They seem to be doing everything possible to alienate people who *want* to be on Bioware's side.

At this point it looks like pitchforks and torches time.

Seriously, This!

I'm pretty sure EVERYONE here would love to be on Bioware's side. Thing is, we're fans, we love talking about the series, we love the details, we love the plot. Then there's the ending, which is bad enough to cause this response.

What's amazing to me, is that everyone staying tight lipped. Seriously, this isn't a public filing, with data that will be used for trading stocks, this is the plot of a game for crying out loud. The fact that they can't just talk about what they meant with the ending with fans is in-freaking-sane. We would love nothing more than to chat about the ideas and "art" in the "ending". We don't like this being put in our face, and being told, "it's art". If I wanted art, I would have gone to a museum. I wanted more of what I got out of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2.

Let me say that again because I think it's important: I wanted more of what I got out of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 3 was about to deliver that, but the ending was so jarring and out of place, that I take zero enjoyment in playing ME1 or 2 again.

I'm an adult. I have a job, and errands. I don't have time to play EVERY game that comes out. So I'll just play something else. I love RPGs, but when Dragon Age 3 comes out, I probably won't rush out and buy it after the way this is being handled. After all, the games are supposed to be for the fans, not the reviewers. The metacritic score is telling, in that the fans feel differently than the "professionals"

I would love nothing more than to be happy with Mass Effect 3 and Bioware's products. I cannot be with the ending to ME3, as the standard set, going back to KOTOR, BG, Jade Empire, etc has been top notch. I cannot accept the implications of what is being said here. Either there has been an indoctrination attempt, and everything after Harbinger's beam was a dream/hallucination, or the ending is total and under plot hole filled crap. What really got me today is with the FAQ on the DLC, they're saying that there is no added gameplay, meaning that both of the options I laid out suck. Either the plot holes get to be explained away, (I have my doubts, as they're huge plot holes), or I don't get to play the best part of the game.

Luke Skywalker got Vader in the end. Luke got the emperor in the end. He confronted both. Shepard confronted Soverign on Vermire. That's good storytelling. We never confronted Harbinger.

Why does this much get written about this? Because we love Mass Effect. Sadly, with this reaction, it's time to move on. Not discussing with your fans to protect integrity? After the "final" game in the series is out? Right. Treat us with respect. We want interaction, not PR.

Exactly. Thank you.

Double thank you!  Exactly

I just wanted to say you pretty much put my EXACT thoughts into words better than i ever could. this is maybe the best post i've read on BSN regarding the endings. thank you very much.

Agreed.  Couldn't have possibly said it better.  We care because we are fans and love your work.  We WANT to be on your side, but seriously.... between this and all the other issues (SP EMS enough for 'best' ending bullhooey), you are making it very VERY hard for us.

In his defense, that post about being a 'veteran fan' wasn't actually him. It was modded from someone else's post.

So they string us along for weeks, waiting to get some answers at PAX. Then a day before they come out and say they're not gonna say anything about this "clarifying" DLC. The one thing they know people want answers about. I'm honestly starting to get disgusted by BioWare's PR, I'm starting not to even care how good the DLC might be anymore.

How can they honestly think sitting up there twittling their thumbs, completly ignoring the most talked about issue, is a good idea?

This issue is no laughing matter for Bioware this has the potential to sink the company depending on how they decide to handle it. Only PAX will tell us if they really are stupid and are willing to let EA run them into the ground or have a heart and give the fans what we payed for although after the events of the past few days I am going with the first option.

Maybe it should simply be a surprise?

Really, why bother writing anything more if you guys want approval and to be spoiled before they write it? As a person who is interested in this DLC, I don't want to know ANYTHING about how they are going to expand it. Otherwise, why even bother playing it.

You don't get to review their improvements before they publish them.

I really hope people don't get caught up in this "additional content", considering the Extended Cut is going to be FREE, I wouldn't expect anything lengthy or high quality(no profit in it for Bioware)

I really hope todays announcement doesn't destract fans at PAX tomorrow....they need to ask the hard questions:

"So about Star-Jar Binks err I mean Star Child or whatever....wtf was that Bioware?"

"So Joker turned into a coward and bailed on me in the last 10 mins of our 200 hour journey together?"

"So about those many varying endings based on all my decisions....?"

"No A,B,C endings eh?"

"Where the **** is Harbinger?"

"Can you explain the 'breathe scene' please....is it on Earth or the Citadel.....and if he's on the Citadel, how in the name of Zeus' butthole did he survive?....and if he's on Earth, how did he get there if the indoctrination theory isn't true?"

"So Shepard kills more people and species than the Reapers huh?"

"Did you really think this made sense?"

"Who's idea was it to introduce Star Jar?.....can we speak to him.....Outside?"

Actually, they don't want to talk about the endings? Fine.

Someone who's going should compile a list of all those lies (the Rachni, our decisions impacting the ending, LI's coming into conflict, etc) and quote them out in front of the panel tomorrow asking for explanations (not speculations).

Yeah but they said they won't be discussing the Extended Cut specifically.....shouldn't be any problem asking about the "current" endings

I just don't get BW at the moment. The ending of ME3 was thoroughly disjointed from the entire trilogy's tone and narrative, they hide from the critical backlash of that ending, and then just refuse to engage their paying customers in a dialogue seeking only explanation. Instead we get mostly silence and veiled insults.

They are entitled to do whatever it is they like, but it doesn't seem like a successful business model to alienate and offend their most loyal fans.

I guess having EA at your back financially bolsters you enough to behave with such dismissive aloofness.

i think most fans actually just want one thing...

an ending fitting for the mass effect trilogy.

seems like they should've been able to pull this off.

Considering that we won't see it until the summer, that isn't surprising one bit. People need to chill out. They have nothing to show more than likely, and talking about it would probably spoil it.

Pretty much this.

People need to calm down.

They want to avoid the mistake of promising anything they can't deliver. They've seen where that got them before...

Better they start learning that lesson now than never.

They can offer information without promising anything.

You know what will be a great way of protest at PAX tomorrow: all the ME3 filled the room they're doing the panel, and when they announce they are not talking about the ending, everyone just walk out silently, leaving their copy of ME3 behind, with a note saying: " You don't want to confront the truth, fine, we don't want to deal with people who don't want to deal with the truth then"

I don't think a stream with a 3/4 empty room panel is a very good sign

For the last weeks i was looking forward to what they would have to say at PAX. Trying to be a little optimistic about that Extended Cut, but at the moment, i won't buy another Bioware Title just out of Trust, like i did with ME1,2,3.

Hold the Line

OK I realized that while they are not discussing the extended endings...can we discuss how they will gain out trust again? We were burned twice. Once with DA2 and once with ME3... What will they do to retain those who are currently on the "will I walk" fence? This is bigger than just one game after all.

See now I never mentioned the endings once.

ive actually been shocked by the silence, i took them at their word they wanted more people to fisnish the game, fine. but seriously, does anyone at the company want to defend the product?
