I searched the forums but I couldn't find anything on this. Why did the Shroud explode? I probably missed something, but after the thresher maw fought the reaper, the tower seemed to just start exploding for no reason. I couldn't see a logical reason for this plot device. Any clarification would be welcome. Thanks.

The storage tanks in the tower ruptured when the maw hit? The chemicals within then combined and went boom?

I was assuming the salarian sabotage had set it to go -boom-, and that Mordin's fix was only enough to allow the genophage to work, and not to stop the boom.

That sounds reasonable. Maybe it was also a combination of circumstances...

I thought the Reapers were attacking it (i.e. the whole -big walking destoyer thing-).

i think it exploded because it needed to as a plot device, but it was plausible enough that it did for it to work.
