I am torn on the announcement actually - I mean did we win? No.  Did we lose? no.  Seems like a comprmise - here are the things I took from the announcement that I like actually:
1) Ending DLC is free so there is no financial risk involved.2) Sounds like they will be beefing up the ending cinematics to make the endings more customized, which I take as more visuals of our "war assets" in action - maybe get to see a Rachni ship in the final battle by example...3)  at least we will get more dialogue on the citadel, if nothing else with Anderson and TIM...perhaps we can ask starchild how synthesis is any better than siding with Saren?4)  more clarity on exactly what happened to the crew and where they went and how the squadmates got to the Normandy will almost certainly be explained.5) post ending epilogue slides ala DAO will at least give us closure to the NPC characters...
what I do not like about the announcement is
1) Endings still suck unfortunately, in particular synthesis which as it stand is still Space Magic.
What can still be done to make things better under the framework we got and that is realistic at this point:
1) Extend the Shepard breathes scene to make it definitive Shepard is alive and make that ending available in SP by  providing the proper number of war assets in SP
2) Create a rescue the crew DLC that is available to anyone who has an alive Shepard...
