I think I'll leave that decision to when we know at least the title of the game, thanks.

Although I am very disappointed with the way Mass Effect 3 ended just like everyone else, if they did fine a way to bring Shepard back then yes I would buy a Mass Effect 4.

It depends on several factors:

-I will not buy if is MMO
-I will not buy spin-off nor prequels.
-I will buy if it is set after the original trilogy
-I will buy if it will remain a Action-RPG
-I will buy if it there will be exploration.

All these conditions should be met for me to buy the game. Probably won't pre-order though.

Of Course. Since Mass Effect 3 had Earth,(place looks like hell), they will have to pull off a new "habital" zone. Be quite interesting to find out. I doubt there will be an import feature even if it is released on another system, because the endings result in Shephards death(Sorry Spoilers). Why do you think you leave your romance behind? It seems like the end of Shephard, and now it is proven.

They also need to invent factions, since the others are neutralized over time. Also interesting to find out. Most likely a new set of romance options, since they are all hooked or have a "crush" on Shephard.

for me, mass effect has come to an end.

the endings (all of them) are inconsequent and while they leave room for interpretation, they leave very little room for conflicts.

the only way to make a fresh start is to canonize an existing or even create a new ending. the later will (most likely) not happen.

and since they dont want to make a new shepard-mass effect, i will not buy it. to me, mass effect is tied to the commander and her companions, friends and brothers/sisters in arms.

no new pilot could be a match for joker, edi is unique, garrus is the brother shepard never had and liara is special.

every new asari, will be measured by samara and liara, every turian by garrus, every krogan by grund and wrex, every salarian by mordin ....

if they give shepard a farewell, my journey ends in the rubble. no more mass effect for me.

I will pre-order a collectors edition of Mass Effect 4. I think the trilogy has been so inspiring (aswell as the Documentaries and Videos where people come toghether and discuss the story and the ending).
And of course, I will not buy it if it's a MMO or if it's just a pure action shooter without RolePlaying.

It'll depend on what's it about. I don't want: Prequel or Sequel with synthesis canon. I also don't want 200 or so jump to the future so our choices don't matter.

Either a very good spin-off that has nothing to do with the Reapers, or a sequel with control/destroy save import that change stuff, maybe not necessary drastic. I want game focused on exploration and characters, not 'super epic hero saves the world' plot.

I'd also buy it if it was Mass Effect Battlefield on frost bite 2 and focused on MP, but that's just impossible :D

Not sure if I would buy it. I thought Mass Effect 3 was great game but it was watered down. If Mass Effect 4 is done the same I might have hard time choosing to buy it.

mass effect 3 gameplay was ok .. the new moves and extended skills were nice.

BUT ... the "boss fights" were just s**t and uninsprired. nothing compared to lotsb - another missed opportunity. the overall level of difficulty was not what i expected. i played all 3 parts on hardcore and the 3rd part was too easy compared to the other 2.

another reason to watch the "4th" part with suspicion.

I actually would prefer pure action shooter than half-assed RPG. ME3 was really hanging in the balance.

Depends on the story and the development for me. Am I disheartned by the ending, of course, but because of my stake in the sci fi itself I can not make a def answer.

@OP Most likely not - I won't buy ME4.

Check.

MMO: tbh, I doubt ME4 is going to be a MMO. A MMO could be interesting, 'though, but I don't think BW/EA is able to pull the stunt and create a GOOD MMO beyond the typical "kill mobs & grind XP" stuff.

Spin-off/Prequel: okay, that's going to be a hard one, since ME4 won't continue Shepard's story and therefore is some sort of a spin-off - even if it's set post-Shepard. It also could be set in the First Contact War - and then we have a prequel.
So that's not the big issue to me since BW can't avoid it.

Post-Shepard-Era: I accept this, Shepard's story is told, I don't think it would help to bring him/her back in ME4. However, I kinda expect him/her to have a cameo, be a quest giver, whatever, in case s/he survived ME3.
Please: no Liara as LI. And since we're at it: same for any other old LIs. Cameos are welcome, also - if you're allowed to import an ME3 savegame to ME4, Shepard's LI should be there to talk to. Of course, the dialogue should be different if Shepard survived ... ;)

Action-RPG. Wrong. I will buy it if it's a RPG with action elements, like ME1. I might buy it, if it's like ME2. But I won't buy it, if it's like ME3, since ME3 is an action game with some RPG elements. Especially the lack of meaninful dialogue options is an issue, missing proper treatment of most characters is another big problem.

Exploration is a must have. ME3 didn't allow me to explore anything, ME2 got must of that feature cut. ME1 exploration was a bit primitive, but at least you had it. Think about modern day ME1 exploration and you'll love it.

Furthermore I want those features:

Import old Savegames
In that case your new character will start in a galaxy Shepard's decisions helped to shape. Do the Geth live? Does EDI live? What did happen to the Quarians, to the Krogans? All that stuff. In that case you won't see a pre-set "canon" created by BW, but your own canon universe.

Keep it "Mass Effect"
I heard rumors BW is planning to create something entirely new, including gameplay. I dunno if I'm going to like that: something entirely new doesn't always mean a good thing. What if ME4 is designed as a straight first person shooter? What if it's going to be a real time strategy game?
I can live with a RTS if it's set in Shepard's time period, but I definitely would hate to see any kind of FPS, TPS 'n' co. That's no Mass Effect anymore. I want a RPG game with action elements, nothing else.

Characters are important!
Well, we saw what BW did to most characters in ME3. Just saying: don't dare to do that to your main characters in ME4, ME5 and ME6 - if you plan to create a second trilogy. I -really- hated what you did to Miranda, Jacob, Ashley and Thane, just to name a few and I don't want to see that in a second trilogy. Better keep the number of squadmates small and give everyone a proper background instead of creating a huge cast and concentrating on only few, doing half-arsed jobs for the rest.

Reboot the Series
Just in case BW ever wants to reboot the series, keep it ME1 when it comes to character development, story and RPG elements, use the upgrade & combat system of ME3 and take the best of ME2.

Don't do the ME3 again.

...
That. And thanks.

If Mass effect 3 is ever fixed so Shepard can get a better ending then Maybe after I read allot of user reviews. Bioware is no longer a pre-order company for me.
