I'm having an odd thing going on.  I have exported a .lvl file without any errors, yet it doesn't show up in the area editor or in game.  I generated lightmaps and pathing data, then "do all local posts".  There are no errors in the log.  But when I use this level in an area, the changes don't show.  Odder still, I created a new area and the same older data loads into the editor.

Seems like it's caching something, or the export/build is failing in some way that isn't represented by an error.   Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

This is really whacky. I tried the trick listed in the thread about getting water planes to appear. Now the terrain changes I've made show up in the area editor, but not the sky box, and neither of those make it into the game! The game is still loading the old terrain and atmosphere settings!

I'd love some insight if anyone knows whats going on. Otherwise I'm bagging on this until a couple more updates to the toolset.

here are the steps i take to make sure my levels update and appear correctly. it is a pain, and perhaps redundant, but i know it works.

** Open your mod
** Open the level and in this order .... lightmapper, light probe, generate pathfinding, export all locals.
** save level
-----------------
IF YOU HAVE WATER
** close everything
** go to manage modules and open singleplayer
** open level
** export all locals
** move everything from the singleplayer level's folder to the addins folder
-----------------

** open your area
** if the changes do not appear ... load a different level in the area, then reload the original one back.
** export area with all dependencies
** play the game and your changes will appear.

Thanks for the detailed info! Unfortunately, I get exactly the same results. For some reason, there is some stuck data somewhere and I'm not getting any errors about it. I guess the next step is to try another level, but I'm loathe to waste too much more time on this.

Thanks again... I'll let you know if I work anything out.

Working for me:

- edit level

- do all local posts

- open area

- open Area Layout selection for your area, choose your level, click ok

- export w/o dependent resources

- play with the new level

Try picking another layout file then changing back to the one you want. Had the same problem and this worked for me.

Which module are you using to do local posts? Is it the Single Player module or your module? If you do local posts from the Single Player module then they will be in a different folder and you need to manually move them to your module's override folder.

That would be one potential cause for not seeing the update in your module.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try posting from both the single player and my module, both because I had yet to discover that issue and also for thorough testing purposes later, and neither worked. I truly hit some kind of bug dead end with it, so I haven't done anything in the editor since. Decided to wait until the toolset and community knowledge level shakes out a bit better and focus on some of my other gaming projects instead.

Hope it's going smoothly for you all!

I have a question similar to this. i have made a level called untitled.lvl with a start point and some walls and a floor and i have no light at all. then i click do all local posts and get two error messages: cannot load the addins.xml file. unable to verify

and local posts failed!.

when i open up an area and try to pick my room from the area layout i can't find it.

two more error messages that i didn't notice: failed to generate pathfinding data. you must specify a start location in order to generate pathfinding.

I have the exact same issue XtopherWa is having. The problem persists with regularly 'changed' .lvl files not updating in the area (and of course i have tried changing layout back and forth, as well as making a new area using same layout file)

Basicly i noticed some grass objects not quite aligned to the floor while testing it in game, went back to .lvl editor and fixed it, exported etc and cannot get the new changed to show in area/game at all :(

First produced this issue on my old XP machine, problem reproduced on my new Windows7 machine (same files was copied over however)

I have found that, for some reason, vegetation is particularly prone to failures when posting to local. For me, it seems most likely to happen when I am multi-tasking on the computer. If I just let the local post do its thing, it's more reliable. There have been times where only a reboot would cure the problem. I haven't narrowed down exactly what it is yet, but I have seen the same issue.

This happened to me once. It was because I did a level export from my test module and then later did an export from the single player module. The changes I made in single player did not override the export I had made previously from my local module. I did not look into it fixing it though because it was a throw-away level and now I make sure to always export from single player.

this also happened to me. exported my lvl from single player without errors. updated my area and all the models and trees went missing. the grass was transformed into trees. it was all messed up.

after exporting it from my own module it worked well, beside the missing light probe.

now i always delete my lvl file after copying it out of the core\\override\\toolsetexport ;)
