It's true for some people. But most of us have to make peace and become more accepting of the things we can't (or won't) change about ourselves.
Like me for instance, I've hardly changed physically since my early twenties. I'm now 29 and just stopped giving a damn about my looks. I wear suits at work, I take care of my appearance because it's mandatory (hair, hygiene, social behavior) and sensitive responsibilities have enforced confidence upon my character.
Unfortunately, because I work management level, I can't fraternize with the people who are most impressed by all of that... my colleagues<_<
