For the love of god people. :) Please stop assuming that just because there is racism (and stuff like that) in the game, that somehow this is the views of the developers on that issue. It's not Bioware game, where you have very distinctive good/bad sides, where game always trying to push you in the "right" direction. Witcher's world is a mature world for mature people. There is no good or bad sides, there is no "right" way to play through the game. You have to decide for yourself what is good, and that's why this game is great imo.

And btw, sex cards? Really? Posted Image No one forces you to collect them, you know.

^This.... is full of win ^.^

Female gamer here who played Witcher 1.  I have exactly 1 card.  I'm going to guess I'm in the extreme minority of players who stayed faithful to Triss given all the bimbos who end up throwing themselves at Geralt.  Yes, I ignored them.  I still also think they are distasteful and an unnecessary 'side quest' to an otherwise very interesting dark fantasy story with twists.

Have you even read Sapkowski's novels? He's left winger and his books contain also feminist issues. While Witcher the game (first one, don't know about 2) turned into a game about scoring women and "subjugating" (exactly such word in polish was used) one strong female character.

As Sapkowski said, he cuts off himself from everything that is in the game and won't take game story into consideration if he decided to write continuation.

^Really? You're telling me th WHOLE game is dedicated to going around Collecting as many sex card as you can get? You obviously never played either of the games..... And if you have please decribe to me what Geralt does in the very last scene of the first game that carries over into the second.

And where did you get that line that whole game is about it? What is discussed here - "women's matters" - turned into it.

Generally, I find it sad that someone like you, someone who thinks that "feminism is BS", associates his views with Sapkowski's inheritance.

CDProject is good, but really untested in the long run thus far.

I've been pretty well impressed by what they've managed to produce, but I was about BioWare as well before this.

I give them credit for sticking to their guns about adult themes and content, but time will tell. I've been scarred a few too many times to let myself give into hype that easily.

Aside from the Witcher 2 they haven't really done anything of note. The Witcher had multiple bugs and very strange writing, as well as numerous "versions" that included seperate content based on what pack you bought. With the "best" version only available in Poland. It was an OK game, but it was not until Withcher 2 that people suddenly "loved" CD Projekt.

^Not true. CDP has always been about given away new content they come out with to their fans who may have bought the game before the content came out.

Nope, I'm a male that only had one card through both of my play throughs. One with Triss the other Shani. But then again I'm a sucker for love stories xD

Was a lil dissapointed to find out that Shani wasnt in the second game though, but heres to hoping they put her back in the third one ^.^

I think everyone seems to agree that the sex cards are stupid and horribly sexist. But the games do have quite a few redeeming features: A very interesting leveling system, a very intricate and branching story, and great writing, overall.

Even BioWare, with its relatively more enlightened views on gender, enlarges certain female (and male) body parts with the aim of teenage titillation (ironically, this renders such games "mature").

Skyline, objecting to depictions of women in fictional works is exactly the point. The mechanism of male fantasy is exactly the way sexist stereotypes are perpetuated. Beer commercials are also fantasy, but they clearly support a certain model of gender relations, and not a particularly healthy one. But just because the games are sexist doesn't diminish the other things the games do great.

Guys. Guys. No, guys, really.

Stop talking about CD Projekt. Or EA will just buy them too. And then it'll be rinse/repeat of what we all just witnessed with Bioware.

Yeah the Witcher is cool. I didn't get the second one because I don't own an Xbox360 and the first Witcher was difficult with the controls on PC. Good story and graphics though.

Dragon Age is my favorite RPG though. Some thought DA2 wasn't great, I liked it a lot. I like DA:O more, but I think the "Dragon Age" team just tried something new. They did pretty well in my opinion.

CD Projekt is a good company obviously, but I still like Bioware a lot more.

Name one content for the witcher that came out? Cause I don't remember any such thing. Witcher 2 and the whole removal of DRM is what won the fans over, and that happened a mere year ago.

I usually get no more than four if I choose to have a relationship with either. In my last playthrough I had one prior to going with Shani, two of Shani herself, and the last one I really didn't have a choice in the matter role playing wise. I'm realistic enough to choose saving lives and sticking it to the Order over staying commited.

And you're not the only for love stories :D

Last I checked, they pretty much gave all the EE stuff for TW (1) for free to people who owned the game already. Pretty much like they're doing now with TW2.

Just one?

"Director's Cut
CD Projekt released a Director's Cut version of the game on 31 July 2009, for the North American market. It is equal to the Enhanced Edition available to the rest of the world, but without the censorship applied to the North American version.[39] For the moment it is only available online.[40]
The company has released an official uncensored patch that makes the
North American version the same as the international for those who have
purchased a boxed version of the game. It can be found at Thewitcher.com
[41]"

Also every patch in the Witcher 2 added content.

"
CD Projekt RED later released new patch 1.3 which includes a plethora
of fan-requested improvements, including difficulty adjustments for the
game’s Prologue, support for a variety of aspect ratios and a host of
other gameplay tweaks and fixes. Next to the long list of changes, this
update also brings along free DLC — a quest called "A Sackful of Fluf"
.[43]
On August 10, they released a hotfix 1.35 addressing certain issues
that might have been caused by the Patch 1.3. Major problems addressed
by this hotfix include: shadows not being displayed correctly in 3D
Vision and Steam achievements not being registered.[44]
On September 27, CD Projekt RED released changelog for the update version 2.0,[45] which was released two days later. Three big features are added by The Witcher 2 2.0, including the new Arena gameplay mode, in which players can fight it out with waves of enemies, a new Tutorial system that slowly introduces all the complex systems used by the RPG, and a special Dark difficulty
mode, which offers a proper challenge to players as well as unique
rewards in the form of Dark items.
The patch also brings a variety of
improvements and bug fixes, from the overhauled targeting system to
enhanced parrying, which is no longer dependent on the amount of Vigor,
as well as plenty of other things
.[46]
On January 27 2012, CD Projekt RED announced an "Enhanced Edition" of The Witcher 2 via its sister company GOG.com, which is due to be released on April 17 2012.[47]"

The Witcher 1 the enhanced edition, it is released 3 month after original and again it is free for all witcher 1 owners.

Please before assuming CDProjekt treats their fans like crap as Bioware, at least google the Witcher franchise and see what happned.

I definitely like CDPR's consumer approach, sadly, I don't neither like The Witcher's story nor protagonist, so I can't really find it in myself to financially support them.
Hopefully I'll be able to support them when they launch another IP.

Also doing the same thing for Witcher 2.  The edition that is coming out for the xbox in a few days has new quest, features etc, all of which can be downloaded to the pc version for free.

I currently have two copies of the Witcher 1 simply because when they released the FREE enhanced edition I was so blown away I went and purchased a copy to thow some money support at them.  Your memory must be really poor to not remember how they gave a massively huge 'DLC' to the community for free even back with The Witcher 1.

^The first Witcher should. It's kind of old xD lol

My computer is crap. I was amazed that ME3 would run at the proper resolution and smoothly at that. Especially considering how ME2 gave me quite a lag in shadow-heavy areas like Tali's recruitment mission and at the very start of Jack's loyalty mission. SWTOR is also not running very well on it. :)

Ouch man well if you can run ME3, you can for sure run the first game if you wanted to play it. However, the second game is very hardware demanding lol

Yeah. I changed computer between the release of the two games, so might work on my "new" crappy computer, but I am not sure. Is the first game still worth a playthrough?

Nope they canceled "They" as that wasnt their project ( that was project of studio that merged with CDPR).

But ... CDPR are working on new game that should be out in 2014 and it will be sci-fi  game also with probably witcher 3 out in 2015.

Agreed, considering that  just this morning that I watched heart breaking story on this news about  this beautiful young Iraqi woman living in the  States that was killed by her  father in a Honor Killing.  So right now debating..  "Sex Cards" feels trival, though its not.

Even still that is not to say point- more so the concern is not invalid.  I think that really problem is this - I looked up the  images of the cards... and there is nothing that I find remotely sexist about the images.   The images are well done artwork, there is no voilence,  nothing disrespectful all at. So I'm trying to figure is what is so sexist about the images or the cards or the cards themselves.  It is because   women are nude that makes them sexist?   Because if thats the case that is just a bigger problem if not worst than objectification arguement.

CDPR are good, no doubt about that. However, when they've made 14 games (not counting expansions), 8 of which are their own Intellectual Property, and a vast majority of which allow you to play your own character rather than someone else's, then they'll be the new Bioware.

Seriously, claiming they're the 'new' anything after two games is a little bit premature, I think. Unless you're saying they're the new CDPR ;P

^You should of read the last line in my OP.

"EDIT: I was just making the observation that all the values that Bioware
used to hold seem to be moving over to CD Projekt. Get off the topic of
politics and social issues, thank you."

^This is why I made that claim.

Er, I don't believe I made any socio/political comments?

And my point stands, I think. They've made TWO games. And it is therefore too early to be saying anything much about their 'values', other than they are trying to build their core fanbase and international reputation by saying 'look how cool we are, we give you free stuff and don't put in DRM'. Which is very nice, but their reason for doing it is surely more likely to establish themselves as a real player in a very competitive marketplace. Though I'm admittedly cynical about these things. For now, I'm happy to think of them as a very good studio, albeit one with a long way to go before they become a favourite of mine :)

That said, I think Bio has probably banked quite enough on their already-attained reputation, and could maybe do with rebuilding it a little now. Freely offered dlc can help in that regard (after all it's one of the reasons why people are rating CDPR so highly, no?), I guess we'll just wait and see how good it is :)

I never assumed or said that they treated fans like crap. Nor have I said anything bad about them. I've said that the fascination and "love" surrounding CD Projekt is a fairly recent concept, which is mostly based in how they've handled The Witcher 2.
