I definitely like CDPR's consumer approach, sadly, I don't neither like The Witcher's story nor protagonist, so I can't really find it in myself to financially support them.
Hopefully I'll be able to support them when they launch another IP.

^Their next IP is a game called "They". Havent heard much on it thought cept it takes place in modern times.

Nope they canceled "They" as that wasnt their project ( that was project of studio that merged with CDPR).

But ... CDPR are working on new game that should be out in 2014 and it will be sci-fi  game also with probably witcher 3 out in 2015.

^Really? I cant wait to hear more about this new Sc-Fi game then. And as for "They" I'm kind of glad it got cancelled. The plot was kind of... lame lol

*ears perk up*

New scifi game.... Oh  CDPR is saying the right things to woo me.

Female gamer here who played Witcher 1.  I have exactly 1 card.  I'm going to guess I'm in the extreme minority of players who stayed faithful to Triss given all the bimbos who end up throwing themselves at Geralt.  Yes, I ignored them.  I still also think they are distasteful and an unnecessary 'side quest' to an otherwise very interesting dark fantasy story with twists.

Nope, I'm a male that only had one card through both of my play throughs. One with Triss the other Shani. But then again I'm a sucker for love stories xD

Was a lil dissapointed to find out that Shani wasnt in the second game though, but heres to hoping they put her back in the third one ^.^

When I found Shani,  I felt like I got to know her better.  The storyline with Triss seemed to be in the past that I had no connection with.  But a commitment is a commitment.  At least in my world.  Part of the reason I played my Geralt that way was to rebel against the casualness of it.  The nightgown scenes were laughable.  Having a serious discussion about war and conflict in underwear.  While this was rated a mature game for adults, details like that seemed to be targeting a teenage boy mentality.  It's not a flattering portrayal of male machismo.

While I don't really like their games much and think they might be getting countermovement praise, I love their fan-interaction, stance on DRM, and general business practices (gog.com is a fantastic venture.)

Even if it's the same product in the end, goodwill and perception go a long way to easing the faults of a company or product.

CDProject is good, but really untested in the long run thus far.

I've been pretty well impressed by what they've managed to produce, but I was about BioWare as well before this.

I give them credit for sticking to their guns about adult themes and content, but time will tell. I've been scarred a few too many times to let myself give into hype that easily.

Aside from the Witcher 2 they haven't really done anything of note. The Witcher had multiple bugs and very strange writing, as well as numerous "versions" that included seperate content based on what pack you bought. With the "best" version only available in Poland. It was an OK game, but it was not until Withcher 2 that people suddenly "loved" CD Projekt.

^Not true. CDP has always been about given away new content they come out with to their fans who may have bought the game before the content came out.

Name one content for the witcher that came out? Cause I don't remember any such thing. Witcher 2 and the whole removal of DRM is what won the fans over, and that happened a mere year ago.

The Witcher 1 the enhanced edition, it is released 3 month after original and again it is free for all witcher 1 owners.

Please before assuming CDProjekt treats their fans like crap as Bioware, at least google the Witcher franchise and see what happned.

I never assumed or said that they treated fans like crap. Nor have I said anything bad about them. I've said that the fascination and "love" surrounding CD Projekt is a fairly recent concept, which is mostly based in how they've handled The Witcher 2.

No sir, The point were trying to make is the "love" you talk about has been there ever since CDP released a huge amount of free DLC to the fans for the Witcher 1.

I only think its BS when people use it in a argument that is relating to FICTIONAL material. Im my opinion this isnt helping the cause in the real world. Just making your cause more invalid.

As a student of literature and a writer...what? The stories we tell shape our culture and our society. They're not just irrelevant gibberish, they're part of what makes us, collectively, who we are. Why the hell wouldn't stories be subject to critique from a feminist viewpoint? Cultural depictions of women, gender relations, and sexuality are some of the most relevant possible things to the "cause".

The flipside of that is that you don't get to declare yourself immune to criticism just because "it's fiction". If fiction didn't matter to you, you wouldn't be here, and you certainly wouldn't be upset over the ending of a fictional video game.

Find a new dismissal.

The mechanism of male fantasy is exactly the way sexist stereotypes are perpetuated. Beer commercials are also fantasy, but they clearly support a certain model of gender relations, and not a particularly healthy one. But just because the games are sexist doesn't diminish the other things the games do great.

It's really weak excuse since source material (books), which was theoretically about the same Geralt who also wasn't in celibate, managed to portray it in quite equal terms actually.
It seems that while calling it "male fantasy" you have in mind stories like "Conan the destroyer", but Wither (books) was never about it and Sapkowski, writer, often dissed such form of fantasy as immature and simply bad.

Of course it's appropriate thread since you say CDP is the new Bioware. And Bioware gives female players opportunity most of other companies do not.

And no, you didn't call her argument BS, you said that she's "getting into some stupid Feminisme BS". That use of words shows what you think of feminism, since you treat it as insult which purpose is to show that her opinion doesn't matter, since it's "feminist BS" and you line it with stupidity. And that's all only because she criticized The Witcher's sexist parts about women.

Well I aint a big fantasy player I prefer sci-fi but I did enjoy the choices you make in whitcher 1 and 2 and how it can come and bite you on the ass. there was a lot of grey moments where you thought you did the right thing and it turned out you were wrong.

Say what you like about them atleast they know how to make choices matter :P

Come on that's not fair. I think Witcher 1 was also an amazing game, certainly a great accomplishment for a developer's first game. The writing was great and the bugs weren't game breaking or anything. The long loading times were really bad but that was fixed in the enhanced edition. The biggest flaw in Witcher 1 was the whole immature sex cards thing and their overall approach to women. Good thing they got rid of that with Witcher 2.

I see your point, but remember Geralt is supposed to be a type of anti-hero. His faults are the qualities that are supposed to stand out like that, and almost seem childish. At lest this is what I got from playing it.

Also doing the same thing for Witcher 2.  The edition that is coming out for the xbox in a few days has new quest, features etc, all of which can be downloaded to the pc version for free.

Yep, I have established my faith of CDPR since Witcher 1. Honestly when the game just released it bugged as hell. But CDPR continously improved their game. The friendly support of modding comunity also impressed me, eventually the free update of EE which significantly improved original games and implemented tons of  fan-feedbacks, totaly win me over. Then Witcher 2 released, it is simply amazing and again bugged as hell, however Im pretty confident that they will fix it.

The irony is they keep reminding me to the old Bioware which consisntly polished their games, focusing on quality and KEEP THEIR PROMISES. I have been a loyal fans of Bioware since Baldur's Gate I. BG II, ME1 and KOTOR will stay in my hard-drive till the end of world. But since DA2, my faith start to weaved. Then yesterday's ****storm totally ruined it.

BTW, guess where I purchased my latest collection of the perfectly WIN 7 capable BG seires?

Feminism isn't BS.

Feminism is not relevant in Western society anymore. Women have equal legal rights, and in many cases have greater social protections on top of that.

It's time to move on.

Sir! You've convinced me! Convinced me to never support this particular studio if you are the type of fan that it attracts.

The Witcher is one of the most flawed games I've seen. The misogynistic elements alone grant it a spot in the video game hall of shame. To have somebody who apparently feels that treating women as more than sex objects is 'bs' (though the word you are trying to spell is 'feminism'. Dictionaries and learning are fun!) is more than enough to turn me (and likely anybody else with a functional brain) right off the studio altogether.

Go shill for some company that lets you jack off to pixels somewhere else. People with standards will continue to try finding studios that make reasonable narrative that isn't relying on wildly misogynistic narrative that attracts people like you who believe standing up for the rights of women to be treated equally is 'bs'.
