Geralt is a set character, THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THAT. The IP from which he originates has him set as a character, it's ridiculous to demand change of gender and looks. It's like saying, "well Vaan from FF12 looks very girly, why not give the option be make him female, with dark hair?". That just doesn't work. Not all RPG's have Character custimizations. I rather work with set characters, as there can be more detailed RP than lets say RP in Skyrim, which is ****ty.The Angry One wrote...

There is no good/evil option. Everything is risky when making choices. Which to me makes it a better story.
Also and a big deal breaker for me. You play a specific and established character Geralt. You can't change his appearance or gender. I very rarely play a male in my RPGs. It's just my taste.
^You've never played. You know how I know. You can change his hairstyle and clothes in the second one after CD Projekt got to make their own engine.
Also they have "side" compains that go along with the story in the first one where you play as different characters that you make.
Guess I didn't get to that point. (in one) but when I ask. "Can customize the main character? especially select gender" and the answer from reading the box or talking to the gamestore employee is 'no' then you're right I never play. your point?
There is no point, but to comment on a game that you've never played just shows your ignorance. I always say Better to remain silent on topics you have no knowlegde about and speak up about the ones you do. Just sayin ^.^

I finally understand why you don't "like" TW2 (eventho you never played it); it's because you don't like the fact that the main character is a man. Well here is the reality: CD Project will NEVER cater to any group of people to get higher sales, they'll only add such a thing to their games IF and only IF the writers demands it.The Angry One wrote...

Not really. FemShep is a badass, whereas default ManShep is modelled off an effete Dutch male model, who probably has a glass jaw.
Unlike ME, where fans have ruined the IP, either by redicilous demands of fanservice or something else.
Not sure how that's 'fan service' (gender options for the player character) that's game design. The fact of the matter is an important selling point to me is weather or not 'my' character (the one I wish to at least partially identify with) is female. I don't see how that's 'fan service'. It's just a feature I look for. and usually is a deal breaker for me. (I did make an exception for Sam Fisher)

The topic is "Is CD Project the next Bioware" and the answer for me is "No" - Why? twofold. I like to play female characters, I have little use for fantasy (or at least the kind of fantasy where the state of the art for weapons is pre-gunpowder) I realize that makes me very much a niche player. But CD project has yet to produce something within my niche. Bioware Did .. more than once before it finally died in front of me. So no. for me there is yet no sucessor to Bioware's throne.

That's it. I've got Bulletstorm and Space Marine lined up as my next games but after that I'm gonna really dig into that copy of Witcher Deluxe Edition I've been ignoring.
I have to warn you: Bulletstorm has a crap ending. Well, it doesn't really have one.
The company that can make a game like Arcanum, but make it work, y'know, on PC's, will get my vote. I -adore- steampunk, yet it's so rarely done. Bioshock does art deco (something else I like), and a lot of others go... well, other places, but where are my steam-powered vehicles, lifts, houses, robots, guns, etc? And I mean full-on steampunk, not just a dash here and there to allude to it.

Pretty much my feelings on the matter.
I'm used to playing as males in games, but in RPGs? I'm a very slow, methodical RPG player, if I'm going to spend a lot of time on an RPG it's going to be with a character I can get into totally, and I can't do that with a man.
This part has nothing to do with feminism (and why do people keep thinking it does?), it's personal preference, and for that reason CDPR have as yet nothing to offer me.

Actually the basis and setting of the character and Geralt can be made bigenderous with very little work. The Witcher as it is has no predication to being male. I'm pretty sure the opening portion of The Witcher, as god aweful of a game it is, even has some female Witchers that fight in there bastion castle thing.azerSheppard wrote...

Yes, there never will be a female Geralt, but come Witcher 3 they can easily make the playable character Triss, Shani or even somebody like Yennefer as we haven't even seen her in the games yet. That way female players can play as a female, of course there will be little customizing but that's the same as Geralt.

Yeah cause Lara Croft sure was designed for women to relate to....
Still, I'm not demanding anything. I just would like it if CDPR would expand their audience just a little bit so I could get into what the fuss is all about. If they don't then I guess I won't be part of it.
If that's my loss, well so be it. But it's just not my thing.

The game is based off the books by Andrzej Sapkowski and is tied into their stories, it would be very dificult to create stories without Geralt being the protagonist. Eventually I'm sure their will be a Witcher Lore/Universe type game, maybe taking place before/after the life of Geralt, but for now it's a good introduction to the world and a fantastic story. The Angry One wrote...

I'm sure they'll make games down the line with customizable characters, but Gerat is a character. Geralt isn't like the Warden, he is a character that the player influences. Two different styles. There is no "problem". Sure, say that you don't like it, and can't get in to it, but don't say there's a problem with it, it is how it is.
