One legitimately can complain about the treatment of women in the series, but I believe it comes from the source material. Perhaps it is not the stance of the company, but rather they are respecting a very popular national icon (Geralt is pretty big in eastern Europe from what I hear)
Yes, Geralt is not "your" character, but you can make decisions and they do largely effect the narrative. For a young company I think their products have been fantastic. The 2nd game showed a great potential for growth and their willingness to listen to fan feedback has led to a very loyal and vocal fan base. Good for them.
Their conference today showed more of the same mentality. They plan on supporting their products and listening to their fans in nearly every step of their company's development. Perhaps this is too much for some, but I think they have done a nice job balancing the desires of their fan base with their creative desires. After the outcry about the endings of ME3, I think that one should respect CDProjektRed for their willingness to openly communicate with their fans. All other issues aside they should be commended for their attention to fan response and their efforts as an up and coming developer. You may not like their products, their artistic vision, or their treatment of women in their games; however, after complaining about Bioware not listening to their fans you should give them credit for at least that much.

It is when the arguments that are used are relating to a story that is fictional.
I merely pointed out that TW1's sex cards were juvenile.. and they are.
I'll bet you really liked TW2's "romance" scenes then! Apparently CD Projekt agreed with you and decided to up the anty a bit.
Personally, getting upset about the sex cards seems silly whether they're juvenile or not. The video games are based on novels and the main character gets around...a LOT.
I think that's an understatement lol he could have populated one of the towns all on his own.
All Witchers are sterile and immune to disease. That's right. No baby-mamma drama and no STD's. Is it any wonder the man goes after anything with a pulse and the correct parts?

My husband was so excited to get the cards. I saw him make his character sleep with everyone he could. I was like wtf are you doing?! lol
I played the first one, it was good. The second is better. It would be better still if it came to the PS3.

Well I'm not extremely familiar with the source material for the Witcher 1 & 2 but as far as I know it is all based off a series of novels with Geralt as the protagonist. If the Witcher games had been more along the lines of spin-offs to the novels and worked to expand the universe then I would agree the choice of playing a female protagonist is somewhat expected. However they are running a directed narrative with Geralt at its head. While I can't speak for the company, based on their reaction and actions with the community I'm sure they would be more than willing to accomodate for female gamers in future IPs. Besides as far as BioWare goes with its gender differences tis but a few lines of dialog and a couple romance options. It provides a unique tone but you could get the same general feel from either gender played, at least in my experience.
As for the nudity and sex cards in the game I personally don't care either way but then again I'm a guy so I suppose you wouldn't expect me to. From a story standpoint though I feel moving from the more rudementary/childish sex cards of TW1 to what the Witcher 2 does is far better for atmosphere. You might not agree with it but I do appreciate a game that does not treat its audience like a bunch of children. Of course nudity doesn't automatically associate with maturity but some of us can enjoy and appreciate a game normally without jumping and going "omg boobs."
Er.... I always thought the point of nudity in games (and other media) was to jump up and go "omg boobs!" You're supposed to notice them... If you didn't, you kind of missed the point, right?
As for not expecting you to notice nudity.... well, wouldn't you have felt slightly uncomfortable if the camera had panned slowly and lovingly over Geralt's nether regions? Equal opportunity maturity, right?
This was sooo awkward to write...
I definitely see where you are coming from when you mention the fact that it's based off of a series. All I'm saying is that it'd be nice if the whole thing was a bit more inclusive.

Here us a comprehensive treatise on why Valve sucks
1) No Half Life 3
2) Why no Half Life 3?

Meh. I hate mute protagonists. Gordon just creeps me out never saying a word during all Half Life games. It was hard for me to play DA:Origins becouse of this but thankfuly secondary characters VA did the trick. Mass Effect without Meer/Hale would be 50% less cool. And as for Valve... Team Fortress and Portal are cool but that is a different kind of gaming.FemmeShep wrote...

To put it mildly, they are literally the least communicative big developer out there.
I've gleaned more information from the comatose than from Valve.

I didnt said I dont like their games. I played pretty much everything they released. Im just not sure if they can be named as the best ones but that is just an opinion, one of many. Customer service? I guess you are right. But Valve is making buckets of money on Steam. Their games at this time I would consider as their secondary revenue.FemmeShep wrote...

I know theres already a topic on this but it has since been derail thanks to "The Anrgy One" getting into some stupid Feminisme BS...
Feminism, as it exists today, is completely irrelevant and nonsensical. It had a purpose at one point during it's first wave and after their goals were reached the only people it encompasses now are very angry women who need to lighten up and kiss a boy and have a good time. This is probably why "The Angry One" is a feminist. Kind of fits the name, don't you think?
Could you do me a favour and at least pretend to think about what you type before you do so?
It'll save us all a lot of trouble.

I never said I was upset, I called them juvenile and that's that.
I'm aware of how Geralt is in the novels. Let's just say I suspect the author has a lot of... frustrations.

Still didn't pick TW2, but think I'll give it a try later this month.
Now if they could create a new IP where you can choose the gender of the protagonist, I'll be very happy to financially support them.
